Root Radio Patch from the New Update

Yes, That's the BobZohme modified CWM recovery (VM670NH_recovery.img). The best one to use.

Alright thanks :D! I'll eventually stop asking the most obvious questions. Been out of this scene for awhile, Used to do some custom firmware stuff on the PSP (Team M33 anyone?)

Take a look in the All Things Root Guide and the BACKside ROM thread. You can get a pretty good feel for what's going on with the "V".

And another dumb question thats just making me flood the thread :D! What option should I select to apply the update? I'm very timid when working with CWM.

Hi All,

New to all of this. What exactly does this Radio update do? Does it allow for us to have FM radio access, or is radio a special cellphone term for something else?

Dang it Jim, I'm a Doctor, not your Space Pimp...never mind, here take two of these green aliens, and call me in the morning.

You want to select the "install zip from sdcard" option, then on the next menu select the "choose zip from sdcard" option, then just navigate to where you stored the file.

It updates the radio of the phone itself, and basically the intent is to give you clearer calls, and slightly better coverage. It does not allow for FM radio access.

Basically cell networks use different variations of something called RLP (Radio Link Protocol), which is an automatic repeat request fragmentation protocol used over a wirless air interface. :)

Is a radio update usually almost instant? It went REALLY quick(almost instant) on my end.

Noticing huge speed boosts on my end, along with a lot better ping.

Yes. The amount of time it takes for a file to install is based on it's size. The radio image file is fairly small in comparison to a ROM. Only 6.? MB compared to 69.? MB for the average ROM.

Dooh! Ninja'd by rooter1

Here's a screenshot of a speedtest while I was running around doing some errands in Knoxville this morning. Pings are terrible, but speed is good for virgin around here. Will snap another screenshot after I do my prl update.
