Root Radio Patch from the New Update

WARNING

Do not install this with the touch recovery!!!

There have been several reports of bricked phones!

It appears as if most other recoveries are ok, and this type of thing has happened with other versions of the touch recovery on other phones.

For now, you might want to hold off till more is known. ;)

GF wants radio update, but doesn't want to use the VM update, as she is thinking about rooting at a later date. Any method of getting the functionality added to a stock, non-rooted OV?

Does the "classic" vm670nh_recovery.img work with your IHO Backside ROM already installed? Jerry, I suppose you are working hard to solve this one. My inclination is to wait until the air clears on this one.

Jet fuel might make my truck faster, but why risk the damage? Really, I haven't had any problems with my reception so I see no benefit. Besides, I really dig Drew's recovery!

Xionia, IHO and Bobzhome recoveries will flash the update just fine.

You can always go back to the recovery you like after you flash. These others just can't handle the actual flashing is all. Mine has had the radio flashed 3time already and will probably get it done once more for testing purposes.

A few were bricked before we understood the issue, had any of them read the page for the recovery they were using, they would have seen that is said you cannot flash radios with it. Another person ignored the warnings and bricked his.

Those were all in the first 50 downloads, there is now around 300 downloads and I haven't heard of anymore bricks since. It's safe so long as you are smart about it.

I flashed the radio image today. I used to get at best 94dBm. Now I now get sometimes as much as 99dBm

That's not good. When reading signal strength, the lower the number, the better reception you are getting. If you don't believe me, put it in airplane mode and look at your signal strength.

I think you mean it went from -94 dBm to -99 dBm. That means the signal went down (bigger negative = worse). I was hoping this radio image might improve things. My wife and I both have Optimus V phones and she gets about 5 to 7 dBm worse signal strength than I do constantly. Wouldn't be a problem but I only get around -95 to -104 dBm most of the time at home. That is very bad, indeed. I guess my antenna works better than hers for some reason??

After a few reboots I seem to be getting a whole lot better reception. Now that I know how to read the numbers (Duh!) I've been getting high -80dBm to low 90dBm when in the house. Outside as much as the low -80dBm

I didn't either right at first. After a few reboots and a little time I started to notice the difference. Log you dBm findings down everywhere you go. Reboot and do the same.
