RAM discrepencies

Refreshed quite a few times, but still seeing 1 GB. Also tried in a different browser.

Don't know what to tell you. I posted a screenshot.

Don't really know why 1GB ram is really that big of a deal, it would be nice but not a deal breaker.

I still haven't seen the site updated yet, but I am pretty sure it will be corrected to 512mb

lol I'm not sure why you won't believe me. Trust me, it has been updated! Maybe you can try a different computer. 1gb is double 512mb, so there is definitely a difference. I think my DX will suffice for now anyways. I'm interested to see what the battery life is like with this processor..!

It's not that I don't believe you, I don't know why anyone would lie about it. Just wondering why I haven't seen it yet, find it strange.

While I know that 1gb is double, but what different is it going to make in everyday use?

I honestly don't think it will make a huge difference (for me at least!). But I guess some people need to have it if they know it is possible. At this point, I don't think it is enough of a leap from my DX to justify the early upgrade. Especially since I think the battery life could end up being pretty poor (especially with 4G).

I understand that, Droid X is a great phone and it would be hard to justify the upgrade.

I am curious as well about the battery, I have heard that the dual core is supposedly suppose to help with battery life, not sure myself about it. I wonder how 4g is going to play into this as well.

Should be interesting.

512MB is plenty. I'll be you'll be challenged to find a usage scenario where the atrix is faster than the bionic because of RAM usage. The Atrix needs more RAM because of the webtop/docking crap that it does (If I had to guess, it'd also be ok on 512MB of RAM, AT&T simply locked up the 1GB exclusively).

Personally, I'd want the Bionic more because of the .3" more screen real estate and true 4G. Tegra 2 is going to make it fly regardless of 512/1GB RAM.

We don't even know if it has Tegra 2. I don't think the Moto site has confirmed that, and other tech sites are just listing it as "dual-core 1 GHz" but will list the ATRIX as "Tegra 2."

I wonder if TI came out with a 1GHz dual-core processor?

If this isn't Tegra 2 AND if the battery won't last a FULL DAY of usage (like, beyond 9 pm, wake up at 6-7 am), I won't buy it. They should've gone with 4" screen to cut down on battery life, but oh well.

The Atrix has extra memory to support the webtop netbook feature is what I have read elsewhere. More memory for increased demand.

I had commented elsewhere that 1GB of RAM should be standard along with DualCores and was pounced and was told DualCore wasn't standard and 1GB is unnecessary etc. etc. Ok, so the Tegra2 is the first DualCore and by Q3 DualCore will be standard, just because another company can't get it done on time doesn't make it the new standard.

As for the 512MB, I have read that is is DDR2 memory which is PC memory quality, so what kind of speed boost or refresh benefits will we get compared to standard flash memory that is typically used?

I personally think the DD2 memory thing is a gimmick. How much faster does RAM have to be? Is it speed that's usually the noticeable bottleneck, or total amount of RAM available?

(Hint: the latter)

Just give us a phone without locked bootloader and have it last a full day (wake up to fall asleep at night) and with a working GPS. Support the phone as long as is feasibly possible.

Is that too much to ask for?

So by the time you can get the Atrix, you'll be able to see another, better phone on the horizon or readily available. It will never stop so best advice is to get the phone you want on a 1-yr contract.

Not sure what the issue is either, since gtablet has no performance issues. Quite the opposite, since makes my Incredible seem like my G1 now as far as performance. No comparison.

The upgrade to DDR2 memory is nice, since it will speed up the processing of background work and get rid of some of the UI lag, but the INCREASE of RAM is ridiculous. I have yet to witness anyone complaining about Android using up all of the current 512 (on a daily basis my Incredible barely hits 70 MB). Even if you had the 6 largest apps in the Market open at the same time, you would still have some RAM to spare.

It doesn't make sense for it to be anything else. If it is a 1GHz dual core processor, why invest the engineering effort to use a completely different SoC for two very similar phones?

This is correct. The RAM speed will make a difference and speed up the things you quoted. ARM processors aren't as cache heavy as an x86 processor is, so the RAM speed is important to task switching since application save states will have to be loaded back into RAM.

How much memory does our original Droid have?? Looks like 100Mb-ish, so, 512Mb is still a bunch more than we have now.

[EDIT] I found where it says the original Droid has 256Mb, so it's still double in the Bionic. I still really hate the name, btw...

I don't mind the name. Keeps with the whole "Android" theme. It makes sense :p

But yeah, double the amount of RAM is a whole crap ton. People seem to want more more more, then quote the atrix has 1 gig because it has that webtop going on, and needs the additional ram to function without lag. I will guarantee that there will be no easy way for you to use all 512 meg of ram.
