Random Thought Thread

I use to compete many years ago, 1987-91. My ride was a Colnago with SLX tubing with Cinelli bar/stem/seat post, Shimano 600 Ultegra and Mavick Aero rims/18mm Continental tires. I have no idea what tech is out there these days. Being in the welding industry I work with someone who has built custom frames for very high profile riders.

What ride do you recommend?

Wow

Aluminium, carbon, derailleur, suspension, what's happening with bicycles these days? My Flying Pigeon got none of that.

Oh yeh, I actually saw someone wearing a bike helmet last week, a very rare sight indeed.

Innovation. Can be thought of the same thing by phones.

Sensors, text, internet, camera many phones never had that.

Innovation but no longevity though, that's what I found with the "innovative" bike's I've had. They usually fall apart after a couple of years when I've ridden them. On the other hand one of these....

The Flying Pigeon(飞鸽), made in Tianjin since 1950, will last decades with minimal maintenance and occasional oiling.

Probably goes without saying, but where I am I do see a heck of a lot of bicycles.

I've been out of the game for a while and haven't kept up on the new bikes. I could ask that custom frame builder at my workplace, might give you a few ideas.

Sounds expensive. If I had the money I would get a Koga bike.

Anyhoot. I am beginning to write my research paper today. I suck at writing and don't have a good argument because nobody told me what I have is a bad argument. Thanks professor Kossy. I will write what I have done research on and hope for the best. Then... Hopefully I am done with English forever. #stubborn

Not a lot of time... do you have your research done?

I could do a little proofreading for you; but considering your deadline, I don't know how much help I could be.

No I haven't done anything. :P

Lol just kitten.

Most of my research is done. About like 95% of it. My outline is like 90% complete. I just have to write 10 pages.

Only thing I'm lacking on is a strong arguable thesis. Nobody told me that researching the effects of atomic bombs would not be that strong.

So I'm kinda taking the lazy route and arguing the pros and con's of the weapons aBd its effect.

If you are going to argue pros and cons, you need supporting evidence for either side of the argument.

Do you have a list of specific sentences and points in your reference materials, or is your research just "I read a bunch of stuff but haven't marked anything"?

Well of course. A college level class wouldn't allow a bunch of opinions without supporting evidence. That'll be jibbrish. I've conducted an interview with a director and have lots of material from Robert Jay Lifton. Solid material. As well as many other sources.

Its just really hard to argue the pros while staying on topic.

Sometimes it's easier to make your arguments, then write your thesis afterward.

Go back a little later and tweak things.

Done with English! Blahahaha !! Good one!!:)

Ok so... You do not need a good or valid argument to write a good paper.. You just need to write a reasonable argument for supporting your intent... I had professors assign gibberish and obviously flawed statements that we had to argue it's possible merits in essays...it's not what you say... It's how convincing you say it!

Think OJ Simpson trial:)
You just have to establish reasonable doubt in a case like that

Isn't the point of a research paper to forward an hypothesis and discuss the research behind it. I don't think there is anything wrong with saying your research didn't prove the hypothesis, or even that it disproved it. That's what research is for. I think you are more likely to get into trouble looking for data or research that supports your hypothesis and trying to validate the research.

From the research end of things: You're supposed to try to disprove your hypothesis.

If you can't disprove it, you're onto something ;)

Exactly. But its hard to argue something that's not arguable. End of discussion.

:P see what I did there.

I forgot. I'm suppose to have a draft of my research paper. Work got into the way. I think I should call off today and work in homework. Meh. I need the money to pay for my Summer class.
