Can you actually get "in trouble" or kicked form the network for using it if you have sprint? My thinking was it was a free thing....
You guys just lost me?
If you wirelessly tether from Sprint without their Hotspot feature and they detect it, as they usually do, they'll send you a very nice text explaining the features and cost for the Hotspot. At that point you can assume that if you continue, they'll bill you.

Everyone bags on how terrible Sprint is but they never have a cow if you root or debloat or tether - it's like they see you as a sales opportunity rather than a child to punish.

My experience and opinions only.
I'm gonna answer my self as I looked into it... Looks like with out easy tether using the HTC built-in USB tether mode (under settings) one can still use data on my laptop.... I installed the HTC sync like it said and everything worked fine!
Fun fact - in the days of feature phones when Android was very new, Verizon used to have instructions on their support webpages explaining how to do that and bragging about it being free. I forget the year, but as Android rose after that they started insisting that phone makers leave that feature off.

From your experience it's clear that Sprint bought a clue - you can either surf and check email from your phone or laptop, no big deal, you're really only using one station. Sprint is not clueless about HTC Sync.

Hotspotting as provided by Sprint assumes that you want to serve the household and allows for 8 stations online through the one connection (last time I reviewed the ads a few years back).

Considering my usage, (compared to other family members on my plan, I'm a lightweight on the network, even if I do tether once in a while. I certainly get a better connection on my phone than I do free wifi at the airport.

Well, I could be driving to SFO on a road-trip right now, but my partner is going in my stead: I'm the only guy on tomorrow, and an extended job in the field would mean no one manning the shop tomorrow.

I'm the assistant manager for a dollar general and let me tell you.... Every time the weather looks bad our manager has us close early! Back in January and February we closed early 7 times! Folks from Alabama are scared for a little snow! Lol

You are inside a building, a well house for a large spring.

There are some keys on the ground here.
There is a shiny brass lamp nearby.
There is food here.
There is a bottle of water here.

That's the way it is in the South, unfortunately. If there's even a hint of snow or ice, it might as well be the beginning of the apocalypse.
