Random Thought Thread

Day two of my computer-lab cleanup extravaganza (there's a high-shooting scrabble word...), and I've verified my external SATA drive enclosure; the drive in it was dead. As I recall, this one and my laptop drive died at the same time whilst in the process of backing up. Lost a good three months worth of data in that incident.

Anyhow, got five good IDE drives of various types, found a defect in one of my mini-IDE to IDE adapters, which I need to retest, and four 2.5in IDE drives to verify.

Found the missing laptop, but I have to find a power adapter for it.

My oldest brother texted me earlier today to ask if I knew if there were any old yearbooks around, from our old elementary school - because he knew Prince was in fifth grade when he was in 6th grade there. I told him I didn't know of any (there could be one somewhere at my parent's house, but I wouldn't count on it) - then tonight I did a quick Google search & found one from 1968 that has me, both of my 2 older brothers, & Prince in it, so I emailed both of my brothers the link.

I think that's pretty darn cool.

If they sell "American style" fridge/freezers in the UK, do they sell "English style" fridges in the US?

No, but they sell French Door refrigerators. Just don't buy Samsung. For the love of Bob, don't buy Samsung appliances... they might make nice phones and television sets, but their household appliances are hell.

Ah my friend, you have also experienced the wonders of the Samsung home appliance department?
The Samsung oven we bought was an absolute disaster.
I reckon they should stick to what they know best.

This is a first, and maybe a last... I've been online since the bulletin board days, thirty-something years. Tomorrow, for the first time, I'm going to meet someone I met online. We're meeting at some restaurant/bar roughly halfway between us. The pessimist in me is screaming my head off.

Ha, welcome to 2016, meeting people online is OK now (generally). I have friends who met online & ended up getting married, my best friend has been dating someone she met online for almost a year & I started seeing someone I met online about a month after that. There are some pretty weird ones out there, but there are some normal ones, too.

Don't be ready to throw in the towel if it doesn't go well, it's a process ;)

I had to put this somewhere.

I lost a good friend of over 30 years today. Well actually he died the 11th of April and I found out today. He'd moved to Portland OR years back and as often happens weekly calls turn to monthly to 3 times a year to once and a while. I knew this man since I was in JR. High. He was a good man, an incredibly talented guitar player and he gave of his love and talent to teach kids both on his own and in the school system as a music teacher. He was 45, it was not at all expected, in fact it was shocking. A seizure lead to a stroke, he passed quickly. He'll be missed.

Life is fragile, it's fleeting. Don't take anyone you love for granted and hold your loved ones tightly. To all here, be well, and know someone somewhere misses you and loves you.
