Random Thought Thread

My father would have turned 70 today. His, and our, bad luck was that fate thought it was enough thirty years ago. I remember him quite well. Not remember how his voice was, I think, but other things. He made us feel safe. He loved us, and we him. There was laughter and dance at home. Everyone was welcome. No gray hair on his head when he died at the age of forty. Always hoped that I inherited his hair genes ;)
And yet I also occasionally wonder how he would have been now. Damn difficult. Other zeitgeist and stuff. I remember him with a pipe in his mouth, but wouldn't he have quit smoking like many of us by now? Would my parents have been together, or would they too would have encountered insurmountable relationship at some point? How would my partner and he get along? Still hardworking, or enjoying his retirement? Would he still have gone with us to concerts? Nothing sensible to say. Nothing more than that we would still love him, and he would love us I guess. :)

(Shamelessly parroting back the thoughts of several others....)

"What a piece of work is (a) man; How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty! In form and moving, how express and admirable. In action, how like an angel; In apprehension, how like a god."

Where it is the job of art (and the artist) to make us, as human beings feel..... Special, significant, and glorious........

It is often the job of the scientist to remind us......We are not.:p;)

Yar! It be talk like a pirate day (even though pirates didn't really have a special dialect)!

On a lighter note, one of the mechanics found an airline ticket bearing the name of a (moderately) well-known, often-seen-on-television saxophone player, and he's downright giddy over it.

Cuddling kittens can kill you, warn scientists

Cuddling a kitten may always make you feel better - but it could be dangerous to your health, according to experts.

Doctors from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US conducted a large-scale survey of the cat-borne bacterial disease cat scratch fever.

They found the scope and impact of the potentially deadly disease was larger than they thought.

The disease causes fever, pustules and in extreme cases, the complications from the illness can cause death.

I find it funny when people post obsequious comments on Facebook, in response to a celebrity or sports person posting something, in the hope of getting some attention.
Folks, the person you are fawning over is not going to acknowledge you, reply to, or like your comment. He/she won't notice you exist. In fact the FB page is probably managed by an assistant. Do you honestly think these people have time to look at FB? :D

I think more use Twitter.

If they want moggies, ferrets and stories about s**t stew (hippo water)
they got it. That's all we post. I just look at kid's page, have the rest of the world blocked.
I have absolutely no reason to look at any celebrity's page. I probably wouldn't know said celebrity if I tripped over them. I don't watch movies, I read.

My claim to fame is, I once got a 'lol' response from Jason Bradbury when I replied to a tweet he made.
Haha, I'm such a hypocrite aren't I? :D
"Who's Jason Bradbury?" I hear you say.
