Isn't that paint? I'm supposed to just paint over the dust that accumulates on my ceiling?

Sorry, sorry... that was one of my pet peeves in the Navy-- "that bulkhead is dirty; paint it and it'll look clean again" Or, you could, I don't know, going on a limb here, wash it with a sponge and some hot water?

Seriously, there are a lot of people who don't understand the properties of hot water.

You know, it's never crossed my mind to wash the walls and ceilings of my house. Every few years we repaint the place. I guess I'm a filthy slob? :p

I had popcorn ceilings in my old apartment, I hated them so much. There were gold flecks/chunks in it and I was constantly finding little bits and pieces of gold and popcorn on the floor/furniture. Vacuuming and dusting only made it worse. I hated it!
When I bought my wee little tiny house it had tile ceilings, yeah, they got taken down and replaced with a flat sheetrock ceiling. They were horrible, all wavy and yucky. I can only see one tape line, I can live with that.

When you walk into a room and note that the paint texture on the wall is a bit fuzzy, and the coloring looks almost marbled...

I'm actually going to have to pull down some ceilings and walls and start from scratch in a couple rooms-- the house is nearly 70 years old and there's too much damage from various insults (particularly the walls-- one wall has so many nail holes in it, it looks like acoustic tile).

But that's way low on my priority list-- I have a bathroom to rip out, a fence line to replace, the exterior to strip and paint and the northern exposure of the roof to replace.

The house gets listed tomorrow, a terrible way to see who's right. In this case, I have to hope I'm wrong.

So far, happily, I'm completely wrong. That is, of the six or so connected people that heard the reverberating ceilings, none of them took it as a problem, nothing a rug here and a sofa there couldn't solve. Hopefully the lookers will agree with them, not me.

Ta-freekin-da! The house went on MLS about ten this morning. By about four, it was sold, cash offer for listing price. The super will make about ten grand and I'll get twenty. All I had to do is guess right, throw money at it, find great helpers and worry about things no one else does for no reason at all. Next...

I was in my favorite bar/steakhouse, as usual, having a marg and a burg, as usual. I was telling the others there that now I have to relax and see if anyone is willing to spend that much – I sure wouldn't be. And then BOOM! I'm not sure that could ever happen that fast again, but I'm sure anxious to try again.

My dad's biggest regret in life is not having the capital to buy some houses in the Phoenix area about 5 years ago.

My biggest regret is not having the foresight years ago, to buy plots of cheap land locally.
These days they want to build houses on every postage stamp size field, and pay many £'s to do it.

Actually that wasn't my biggest regret. A bigger one was not building a dating website when I first thought of the idea years ago. Dammit match.com you stole my idea!! :)

Or regret to build the first online casino, about twenty years ago. Too bad I was just a student with no funds.

Hawaii tried calling me. I didn't answer.

...because Hawaii would be like, "you never visit," and I would have to try and find an excuse that didn't essentially mean "you're just too damn expensive".

I mean, hanging out with California is expensive enough, and the only reason is because of family.

I do think an ivory tusk looks a lot more magnificent on the animal

Shocking amount of illegal ivory still being poached and traded.

Today is day one of what I am going to call my computer-lab cleanup extravaganza.

What it boils down to is I have to clean out the garage and in particular that one half of it that used to be the Dngrlab.

So I loaded a known working desktop into the van, along with a box full of computer parts of unknown status, including a bunch of naked hard drives.

Took a little time at work (since I am working alone today and tomorrow) to blow the dust out of everything, do a little cleaning up where needed, and figure out what works and what is salvageable.

So far, I've thrown out an ancient IBM laptop, two smashed panels from other laptops, and some miscellaneous bits and pieces.

I found one 250GB SATA drive that is completely dead and put it aside for my co-worker who likes to take things apart.

Meanwhile I have found a perfectly serviceable Dell laptop with a P-III M and a gig of RAM, and enough spare parts to make it useful for something.

Tonight I have to remember to grab a couple ribbon cables so I can evaluate the rest of these IDE drives (or at least pull any useful data from them before discarding).

I am missing a laptop from my inventory, though... need track that bad boy down and see if I can salvage it for a special project.
