Random Thought Thread

I am in a seriously foul mood today. It's been more than thirty years since I hated a job enough to have actual thoughts about just walking out the office door, not saying a word to anyone, and just not coming back.
Unfortunately I have had that thought many times in my current job.

Well, I was thinking about buying myself a new drill/driver for work. I knew what I wanted, a Makita 12v specifically because I had a coworker with one and I knew how light yet powerful it is.

Well, there was a two tool kit available at Home depot: a drill, and an impact driver. The problem was, the drill had a keyless chuck, and what I wanted/needed was a hex chuck.

Well, I found the tool I wanted, as a standalone, but it was more expensive than the kit-- $119 for the two-piece, $124 for the single unit at Amazon (it was cheaper there than at HD).

Well, I decided that it was worth the extra five bucks to get exactly what I wanted.

When I went to the cart, I found out that there was a discount-- my tool was only $98! Yay me.

I was lucky. If I got pissed off and no one was at the office, I could take the phone outside and go weed the gardens. (Our office was in a house bought for the purpose)

Well, here's something interesting... apparently there is a frog or frog-like creature outside my bedroom window. I can hear it croaking like a rusty ratchet.

This is a first for this house, in this particular irrigated desert...

I'm not angry, per se... I just wish that I were going to be assaulted with amphibian mating cries, that they be the charming, even soothing chirps of the tree frogs that used to serenade me in my youth.

I found a big Ridgid in a case with extra batteries and charger alongside the road in the snow. The Vulcan likes it.

Heh. One of my coworkers, we'll call him Fred, is a revved-up ADD scrounger/hoarder. He drives 35 miles to work every morning, spotting at least one new thing to retrieve from the side of the road every week.

He's found bicycles (still in box), shoes (just his size)... a murderers cell-phone hastily discarded while fleeing the scene of a crime.

One of these days, he's going to stumble upon a corpse.

I know whoever left that was sick to the stomach when they found out they left it.

I think it fell off a company truck. There was no identification.

People drop tools in the road, I find them.

Only time I was totally pi**ed off - I found a nice extension ladder in the middle of the road in the snow. It was too darn cold to take the top off the Spitfire, and I didn't have enough rope to drag it.

I just messed my knee up again. I am not happy or comfortable right now. Ugh. It's not as bad as it was when I first ripped it up but this is definitely not just a little twinge. Was just walking through the grocery store and there it went for no reason. Luckily I'd already gone to the liquor store so sitting on the couch in pain may not be so bad in a bit [emoji483][emoji51]

I hope the libations help.
They did. That and watching The Last Waltz with my leg up and then going right to bed did help. It's feeling better today, phew. Not great, but much better and maybe not on the verge of really blowing out again. Maybe. I'll have to be very careful and put the brace back on for a bit. I wasn't or hadn't done anything to stress it, I honestly was just shopping...just walking. Ugh.
And, just an FYI, grapefruit juice mixes really well with vodka. Deep Eddy Ruby Red. Yum. I opted for my trusty bourbon though.

You know that particular libation is called a greyhound, right?
I did not know this but my liking it makes total sense!
The Deep Eddy is really tasty for those of you who like such a thing. I had it many years ago in Texas, my nephews know the guy who started the company. It's finally available here in NY and I get some every now and again. It's a great summer drink, perfect right out of the bottle. There are a few kinds but the ruby red is my favorite.
What a horrible thing to do to bourbon
Maker's 46. Neat. The way bourbon should be. End of chat :p
