The fact that the gap between driving in on Monday morning and driving home on Friday evening can be measured in years while the gap between driving home on a Friday and in on a Monday is measured in nanoseconds.

Applying to tons of places online (which includes dealing with their horrible application process) and getting a grand total of zero calls back.
I so relate to this. I can't even attract interest from fast food places. One would think an adult with work history, a clean record, and nearly wide-open availability might have a shot, but apparently not.

I really do appreciate and am extremely grateful for what I have been given...what I have ...more than most..I think...and I DO try to be the best person I know how to be...most of the time...I AM human...
I don't really want for anything.. and I don't need or want or even aspire .to have .all the material stuff..and it bothers me when people think they are entitled... or
spend 3000 on a frickin chair!!! Really?? IT"S A CHAIR!!!!
oh and keep your stupid opinions to yourself...what's it to you if I like my little house with my reasonably priced stuff..and my neighbors and my friends...

Hey huh, I'd go to the flea market or a garage sale and buy a really cheezy recliner or wicker chair, take a picture of it and send it to said instigators.
PS: I've worked on dozens of McMansions over the years, and the sad part is....most of em are crap. Seriously, they are slapped together as fast and as cheap as possible. Then we get called out to fix a crack in the drywall, and find it's foundation subsidence. Then the owner needs to spend countless thousands to fix something that they paid to be done right the first time.
You'd have to give me a lobotomy to move in to some of the ones I've seen.

This. So much to enjoy, but we waste all our time trying to "get ahead." Of what? What are we racing? The only thing that is going to catch us is the end... enjoy the moments you have!
Also, I'm sick of my car. It's tired and I'm not in the best position to buy another at the moment... motorcycle season needs to drag it's a$$ and get here

We have pretty much waters here in the Netherlands. Rivers or canals to cross where ever you go. My village is divided by this canal, and since Easter pleasure yaughting and sailing is increased. The bridge has to open up several times an hour to let them pass.

I learned to say MYOB years ago. The Vulcan and I live the way we want, although we differ about area. I really don't care what's in the furniture stores, I usually shop second hand for a lot of stuff. Mostly because the current crop looks like crap. I've got a "formal" living room with telescopes standing there and a computer desk that looks like it's from Star Trek. (I need room for papers) We don't own a kitchen or dining room table now. The family has never used one. The one I did have, the Vulcan has his computer on it in his office. Neither one of us sees the use for the "latest and greatest"
We scrimped and paid off mortgage early. We don't owe on cars, appliances, furniture.
We don't go to the latest fad for vacations. We don't go to the movies or shows. (most are too damn violent). We don't go to fancy restaurants. If they have a dress code, neither one of us wants to bother.
We are not the ideal consumers. To those that complain about it - most of our entertainment is free. If you have ever just sat back at a truly dark site and watched the Milky Way overhead - there is no other human spectacle that can compare.
It isn't easy. Everyone now needs to be "entertained" or "socialize" 24/7. If you don't, you are a sociopath. I think this will change down the road. It takes a while, but a lot will get tired of it eventually and go back to thinking for themselves.
I like my mother's answer about being bored. "Go sit on a tack and holler for a hammer" Her other piece of advice - "if everyone goes to city hall and gets their butt painted orange - are you going to be THAT dumb?"
The kid lives this way, too. She had a rougher go of it in school, but stuck to her guns.

People mixing up 'hopes' and 'expectations' and getting disappointed over it.
How do you figure I do that for a minimum-wage gig? Try to pester someone via the "do not reply" e-mail address? Call store managers and PO them into putting me on a "never hire this person!" list?
