Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

The funny thing is while my pc is now having issues, my phone is now completely devoid of the bugs that lollipop brought.

Well, if you have a Bluetooth printer, you can take care of biz with your Lollipop phone, that is mysteriously without bugs...

It could be Microsoft subterfuge. You told Bill Gates to screw off, and the Microsoft-against-Android Secret Cyber Police decided to send your phone some corrective .apks, through their hotmail or Bing servers, and via super-secret spyware, they introduced code to make Winblows 7 & 8 run like the first release of Vista...

Or, I could be writing what's known as a 'blivit' (fifteen pounds of kaka in a five pound bag).

I'm getting ready to leave, and get my baby, as of this edit. I am rested, and ready to go to RDU...

Good luck, bjacks :) LW

I think you're right on the money, LW.

But honestly, I know it's not Billy that's behind this. In fact, I actually have a ton of respect for the things he does, both professionally and charitably.

This might be a Microsoft issue, but I haven't ruled out that it's an ASUS hardware issue.

Anyways, Friday is when our little burden is moving out of the house to live back east with a relative. Hopefully I'll be able to get the cigarette smell out of our house. It's really, really bad. The moment I walk out of my room it overpowers me. My clothes are starting to smell like it too, and that's going to hurt me at work IMO.

I'm want to be lazy today and don't want to move a conversation to PCA.;)
Good news, evidently no one got off their buttons and politely moved to the political lounge, where mice and keyboards and posts work just as well.

Oh, no no no.

Instead we're treated to why the conversation is taking place instead of shutting up about it and then a lot more of the same.

Because mods working this in their spare time as volunteers have nothing better to do than thread cleaning - why should we be cleaning up spam and helping people not brick their phones when we can be babysitting here?

So it certainly seems like time for everyone to put on their big pants while I lock and clean the thread and decide who is going to have posting privilege problems over the standard infraction labeled - Failure to heed a staff warning.

Thread will now be closed for maintenance.

I threw dice to be fair rather than give out the maximum to everyone.

No one's number came up. Everyone walks.

Thread cleaned.

Our standards are simple and reasonable.

You can start anything in the PCA, post a link here and ask people to join you.

Yes, I really did use dice.

I'll thank you kindly if we have no mention of the matter.

Thread open.

Duly noted EM.

I've come to the conclusion that if Adolf Hitler ran an IT department, the company's computers would all run Windows 8.
I just did a factory 'refresh' as it's termed. It put me back on 8 instead of 8.1 Now I have to spend several hours downloading updates, just so I can spend several hours downloading the 8.1 update.

Maybe I should just throw Ubuntu on this machine and call it good.

So sorry for your Winblows nightmare, bjacks12. My fiancée had us bouncing back and forth from 8.1 to 8, because of Flash and Java issues for her gaming site, Pogo.

A site that is loaded with hackers posting Javascript alerts, in order to place mal & spyware into the computer, as she was being stalked within the site.

I found all of her Pogo 'friends', and eliminated them by blocking them. The problems - gone.

Here's the kicker - even though the Toshiba we have has an AMD A6 Vision 64-bit CPU, Toshiba installed the typical 32-bit Winblows OS (8 - now, 8.1); no touchscreen support, which necessitated an install of Classic Shell, so that the computer could be ran like Winblows 7. I completely understand your frustration, and ire toward Microsoft.

You cannot develop a balky touchscreen OS, and have it installed in regular, non-touchscreen desk and laptops, just to bridge the gap for the use of the OS in tablets, and smartphones.

Very bad planning. It does make installing Ubuntu in a new partition of the HD look attractive.

I'd love to see if an Android KitKat install would work. Or, if it's possible. If it can be done for tablets, then, I need to ask around.

Keep me updated, bjacks - you've definitely got my attention. It would require a kernel that would support the Wintel platform.

Like I wrote in previous posts, I'm curious... LW

Just thought that I would mention that you both should be able to get out of the Windows 8 purgatory soon...

windows-10-will-be-a-free-upgrade-for-windows-7-and-8

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2873...a-free-upgrade-for-windows-7-and-8-users.html

And according to a couple of friends, who have tested the developer edition, Windows 10 is a lot more like Windows 7.

What REALLY grinds my gears is when the universe sees fit to give an incredibly sexy woman a voice like gravel. Dr. Girlfriend, anyone? Can you imagine getting intimate with a woman that looks like Heidi Klum and hearing Nick Nolte's voice coming out of her?? Terrible...

Winblows 10 - did the beta. It's just a prettier version of 7 & 8...

My rant for the day - NC is in for a 'wintry mix' through noon tomorrow. My baby's driving us home. My MRIs were done today. Three hours! Lumbar, thoracic, and cervical with contrast.

I had to pee so bad, I had my fly already down before I hit the bathroom. Kidney stones - UGH! LW

Doesn't everybody have their fly down by the time they get to the bathroom? :p

I don't envy your weather in the east. My friend who moved to Conway, AR sent me pictures of the ice. Closed roads. No thank you.

I'll keep my 70-75 degree weather here in Lost Wages.

Forecast for us up in eastern MA is another 1-3 inches... Yay. More snow. We've already had 7 ft of greasy snow dumped on us in the last 3 weeks alone, PLUS last night/earlier today we got a bonus -24 degree wind chill reading. The flys are staying down here! I'll take anybody's 30 degree day any time!! :D ;)

Spec2Nirvash, I grew up in MA between the 60s & 70s. Nor'Easters, Blizzards of '69 and '78 - I was there.

My second cousin was a well-known boxer on the North Shore, who became the Director of Elderly Housing in the early/mid 70s, and later, State Auditor, would come by all the houses of relatives and paisanos, checking to see if anyone needed anything... only once in my life did I ever lose power to my parent's home later in the South Shore - the Blizzard of '78. Those of us with snowmobiles would fetch groceries for our neighbors, and, this year looks like more of the same.

I'm going through an ice storm in NC, and, it is cold. I wish you all of the best, and hang in there. LW

This was Mach 3s, that were a bit too cheap, I'm usually OK with Mach 3, but most always buy them from the large Vanguard supermarket and not the local tobacconist places, where these super blunt ones came from. "Gillette" was spelled correctly. :D

A while back an American friend of mine in Beijing developed a really bad cough. Said you better stop smoking those cheap, 10 yuan Marlboros, or even better stop smoking completely.

Shaving may be TMI in certain locations of the body. I use a Clio for ear and nose hair (cheap, powered by one AA battery).

Compared to most, I shave A LOT. Just my face, neck and head alone takes forever... LW

I use the Gillette fusion and don't have any problems
I used Gillette Fusions, before the track ball design was implemented. Great shave, but spending nearly $20 on replacement razors was not budget-friendly for me.

I can get the Schick Hydro 5 replacement razors for around $14, and if I use an old toothbrush to clean them, I can get them to stay sharp for over a month.

Not bad when you consider how much surface area I shave.

I tried grocery store brand razors, but, the mount on the handles would break. However, Zuben has a good point: straight razors, when used correctly, create the Shave of Champions.

Smooth, baby-smooth.

You know what always sucks is when the short and curlies grow back
after a full shave. They get so sensitive every
movement can be
painful! Never again...[/
