Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

From what I've read, it sounds like 'Texas Woodpecker/Pileateds Massacre' to the nth degree.

Back home in 'Taxachusetts' when I was a teen, bluejays were the Evil Ones... they'd attack our dogs - a female Beagle, and my mother's showdog - a tri-color Pekingese - whenever she barked, she'd slam her paws on the ground for dramatic effect, and an overall volume boost.

The birds would fly from their nesting tree, to another tree that gave the birds a good vantage point - pecking, scratching and leaving loose tufts of hair on the lawn (predominantly Pekingese).

We had woodpeckers, too - but they'd make their woodpecking sounds off in the distance.

The bluejays were probably to blame.

With the Spring season change, birds do some interesting stuff.

Right now in the williwags of North Carolina, hawks are making their appearance. It sends our Border Collie into apoplexy.

Come on, Spring - LW

There's a real rapid pecking "drrrrmm" that is a mating call. We put up a flicker box made of cedar, and the pecking on the hole or for improvements is more tap-tap - taptaptap. It's mating season and you can hear the birds all over the neighborhood.

Our pests out here are Brewer's Blackbirds. They will divebomb anything that even comes close to the nest. The Vulcan has been divebombed a couple of times.

The worst racket I ever heard and saw - Turkey Vultures migrating south. Looking for a roost for the night and every single raven, crow, magpie, jay and blackbird in the neighborhood were following the vultures and making a racket. You could hear the ravens and crows for some distance.

Speaking of Woodpeckers:

Just a warning that with the warming temps today the snow on your roof will get heavier.

Really you moron.:maddroid: Yeah, but there is no more weight on my roof, it just takes up less space. The news (promotional) side of it has been less than accurate in their hyping of anything for ratings.

Don't get me started on the alliterations like "Boston Blasted by Blizzard Blindness." Someone please kill me.

I gotta say the meteorologists have been pretty good this winter, and New England is supposedly the big leagues of weather forecasting. I'll give them there due. I'm ranting towards the news desk people.

You guys may recall that I've been trying to get my refrigerator fixed since November.

The repairman was supposed to show up yesterday between 12 and 1400 with my replacement ice maker and other parts. They called my wife the day before and told her... that gave us just one day to empty the fridge out and unplug it so that we could thaw out the ice maker.

Well, we got it de-iced, and I spent several hours waiting around the house (instead of doing stuff I was supposed to do...) and, at three (an hour after they were supposed to show) they call me up and tell me that their technician got sick and rescheduled for next wed...

My 'like' for your post wasn't meant to be another 'barb' in your repairman's hook.

My lady and I tried HomeAdvisor - unlike Angie's List, it's free. We ended up getting the most sub-par plumbing guy anyone could ever get.

The guy was elderly; so, we felt bad for him. Me and my better half had to help him get the water heater out, and into his truck.

My better half had to go to the hardware store to get him parts he should've had with him.

It took two days for him to finish the job, after we'd been without water for nine days.

I feel your pain, bro - LW

The 'Boston Blizzard' mnemonic is merely the 'ratings hungry' writers for local TV stations trying to gain more viewers in this 24/7 news cycle.

Local, or no... talking heads are merely talking heads. When I grew up in Mass years ago, we depended on good meteorologists - since it meant a snow day off from school (break out the sleds and toboggans, gang - let's go to Institution Hill!).

I'll get my news any way I can - sans talking heads. Hello, mobile-friendly noaa.gov - LW

My love of my life is sleeping - and, I remain.

My pain level is high. I've been to the doctor, and my MRIs have been turned in to Social Security. Add in the misery of kidney stones, and uninterrupted sleep is impossible.

My daughter is supposed to be meeting us this Friday. I haven't seen her in three years.

I'm so tired. I suppose this counts as a rant. Pain, waiting for my SSA appeal, all of it - would be insurmountable, without the love of my life. Online, she is known as Elizabeth Wonder; in real life, she is Mary. A five-foot two, 115 pound stick of dynamite.

That's what keeps me going, along with my music. LW

Friend, I am very sorry to hear about your pain, but I am glad to hear that you have a wonderful person to help you through the tough times.

God Bless You!

kct1975, you've picked up a new follower. Whenever I've posted, ranted, or wrote something to share a little vignette, a little of myself, or... a little love, for all to share - you've been there, with your 'likes'. Your last entry, however, gave me endorphins to make it through any kind of tough slog - through, whatever life hands out.

Thank you.

For your kind words, and the myriad 'likes' you've given me.

The world needs more like you, kct, and that is a fact. I've noticed your camera avatar. Maybe I could create a musical score, and you provide the score a video or film that may touch many hearts, as you've touched ours.

Mary says hello, and thank you. So much for ranting, as this is written.

Your friend, LW

'My' Flickers don't do that but the Pileateds do! Man, those things can make a lot of noise. They seem to like the road sign and house across the street from me. I actually like hearing/watching them, such cool birds.
It's time for me, since I'll be moving to Colorado, to take up bird watching. I once had a friend who had anything and everything in his back yard to feed, and attract birds. I had him on H8 video literally getting hummingbirds to land in his outstretched hands.

Indeed, birds are a beautiful sight to behold - LW

To all who visit YouTube:

I'm on a mission. I'm trying to get as many people to visit my wife-to-be's YouTube page, which showcases me playing and singing covers and original tunes.

With my disabilities, I'm no longer able to stand up and play, like I used to... but, my playing and singing continues unabated.

There are many musicians out there who are more popular, and, more talented than I am.

Yet, people keep telling me that I'm a great musician, and performer. I just need my Android brothers and sisters to tune into LOve's YouTube page... and, if you like it - maybe you'll even subscribe. I have a tune that I've written about Android Forums that will be making its debut very soon, along with some more original and cover tunes. These videos are shot in real-time on an LG smartphone, so the audio (and, video) quality isn't as good as what usually circulates at YouTube.

Yet, people have been surprised at the quality, even though it is recorded through the LG's microphones.

If you would, take a listen and a look... maybe, you can spread the word, and increase the viewership of my wife-to-be's promotional YouTube page of my performances.

I'll write songs about anything, or anyone. Make suggestions - we're all ears (and eyes). If I had an iPhone, I could record on a 4-pin mini jack (via the headphone jack) to stereo to GarageBand. Maybe Android has a similar feature... if anyone knows of this, start a conversation with me, as my new mini-PA rig can do this.

Thank you for reading. Tune in, subscribe, and become part of the "LOve Culture." Even though I may be in pain, I refuse to give up. LW

Who gave the powers that be the right to force us to rent the very fabric of space-time and set our clocks ahead? Or, is it simply the fact that time is not natural but simply an invention of man and therefore totally irevellent?

Just pick one time and leave the clocks alone. You want more light after work? Start work earlier and leave earlier. What could be simpler? Freedom! Let people choose. Don't force things down their throats.

I completely agree! Personally, I prefer Standard Time as opposed to Daylight Saving Time!
War effort. More time for farmers to work in fields. WW1 led to adoption
Yup...but I personally don't understand why we still do it. To me, continuing the practice is silly.

Spring forward, fall back... as a youngster, I was told that it started back during WWI.

To increase productivity (or, GDP) during the more seasonable times of year. Losing an hour has always sucked, and gaining an hour - depending how you look at it - has always played a little havoc with one's circadian rhythm.

Pain keeps me up anyway, so, I just do my best to deal with it all...

Visit my lady's YouTube page, and subscribe; there will be a song about 'da forums' there very soon.

Show me you love me, 'cause I love everybody here. :) LW

AZ doesn't use DST. I've watched people lining up for free breakfast at motels at 7a on their watches, and in AZ it's 6a. No coffee for another hour.

I'd prefer standard time all year.
