Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

'96 Honda Civic. That actually sounds like the best possibly reasonable explanation I've heard so far and Ty- for the suggestion. I'll be looking into that, the jacking up passenger side was a surprise yes, it's been really strange, probably explains the burbling I hear sometimes & sudden temp changes I read the system with a BT ODB2 unit($15) & TorquePro.apk. New radiator and cap included in the change outs. Ty- again, bro!

You're welcome :) I can't guarantee that will definitely fix the problem, but maybe bring you a step closer somehow. Sometimes all it takes is tilting a car just the right way to guide the air towards the top of the radiator.

You may save yourself some time taking a peek in the Honda forums or in the FSM to see if there are indeed bleed valves somewhere on your engine. I left the auto repair trade back in 1999 to pursue A/C repair and HVAC, so most of my detailed foreign auto knowledge stayed behind with it. Chrysler was one of my stronger areas of knowledge, and was pretty much what I drove for a long time.

But recently I've smartened up. I now own a Honda Ridgeline and a Toyota Sienna. Only one 1999 Caravan left to junk and I'm officially Mopar-free ;)

These machines have flooded the market and I can get them cheap $15 bare bones. I get a good machine put together for about $60 total so $85 is right at my price point. That is not my ad and it only took me 1 second to spot a crook. Do you see it? There are multiple ads by the same seller so it's not his personal.

Hint: The Optiplex 755 shipped with XP.

What should I do? Live and let live? He is both stupid and a liar. I can't compete. That REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS.

Unless he bought a magical all you can use Windows 10 Pro wristband.

Phishing scams. And who the hell falls for this garbage these days anyway? There's nothing "sophisticated" about this. Everyone knows your bank will never ask you for these details.
And anyway, the first thing I'd do to verify it, is log on to my account and check the transactions.

"Lloyds customers should be on the lookout for a new sophisticated fraud that involves fraudsters sending fake bank letters.

The convincing letters being sent are a replica template from Lloyds and include their logo, address and signature from a customer service representative.

The letter tells recipients that there have been some “unusual transactions” on their personal account and asks them to call a number highlighted in bold to confirm they are genuine.

When victims call the number, an automated welcome message is played and the caller is asked to enter their card number, account number and sort code followed by their date of birth. Victims are then instructed to enter the first and last digit of their security number."

Apparently a few. I've had a computer scammer calling for a couple of days (looked number up) He's called at least 6 times and my call blocker is working well. He doesn't like it - too bloody bad. (Yes, I'm being rude)

I don't answer any calls I don't know. Those that you do deal with will leave a VM or text. Those that don't are suspect. We had a spate of local numbers with a couple of rings, and if you picked up, they hung up. Just checking if number was viable. 2 days later, scam calls started.

I've had Verizon's numbers spoofed. I can tell from the prefix. I have Verizon numbers but ported elsewhere.

Hmm... I recall a friend whose answering machine would pick up on the first ring and started with that three-tone "disconnected number" (in America, obvs) signal before doing his screening message.

I wonder how effective that is.

No need, I would say. Cold callers never leave messages, and a disconnect tone might cause valid callers to put the phone down.

Where was the gun pointed? I hear the temple shot is iffy. Better to go with the roof of the mouth.
Sprint called me yesterday, wanting to pull me back.

I'm thinking no: the coverage with Verizon is better and I'll have an added line yet still paying less monthly, all said and done.

The main concern I have is teaching the family the concept of data budgeting.

Sorry to revive an old topic, but I was a bit behind on this thread and I love carrier bashing. I have a love/hate relationship with Verizon. The permanently locked bootloader and battery killing LP update to my S4 spurred my delve into the Android world. I borked and restored that phone 17 times. I have the #1 thread in the XDA sub-forum for that device. I have all the friends here that I never would have met otherwise. So in a way I am very grateful for Verizon. As far as having them for a carrier......never again. I'd rather climb a 10,000 ft summit to get a connection.

What is wrong with this site?

Since when does it ask if I really want to like something?

Tried to like the prior post and got that. Are we totally politically correct now or not supposed to diss any carrier in way, shape or form?

With all this talk of blocking ppl & numbers.. I just use this, aka Cyanogenmod

Was using FX based and a Gecko browser. Looks OK in SWR Iron.

That shows up sometimes when the forum software hiccups.

Verizon tried to get my boss back after he switched to Sprint. He turned the air blue with his comments. I got the impression that V had been mis-billing his account and wouldn'
t fix it.

I ported 4 over 10 years ago. I did see where V thinks they are running short of numbers. I'm hoping they don't pester to get the numbers back.
I think since whatever law or regulation that passed allowing numbers to be ported, that cat's out of the bag. In fact, what will probably happen is what already happened here in Massachusetts about 20 - 30 years ago. We have two area codes for each area and have had to dial 10 digits for local calls. For me in Central MA we have 508 & 774 and are interchangeable between mobile & land line phones. So instead of them reclaiming numbers, they will be issued new blocks of numbers in a new area code that overlays the existing area codes.
