Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Dental work done in the Army = pliers and Tylenol. They'd rather pull them than fix them. I left the service with eight fewer teeth than when I joined.

Apple. This price collusion thing really bothers me. Apple didn't want to have to build up from the ground level their ebook offerings, competing with the Kindle and Nook, so they got together with the publishers to jack the prices up for everyone, and locked the feature rich content to iOS only, so the Kindle and Nook COULDN'T compete. We all pay higher prices, and only get the accompanying boost in value if we get an iPad. Sick em, Mr. Holder.

Amen brother, and this isn't an Apple bashing thing either. Collusion and price fixing is bad for consumers.

I've actually taken to smashwords for most of my ebooks as there are mostly independent authors and a lot of free books to read. Before someone reports this as piracy, it is legit site, the books are self published and posted to the site by the authors. A friend of mine recently published a book and pointed me to the site.

I agree with both of you, but Apple is hardly the only company preserving its profit margin by screwing the consumer. Take a look at the big oil companies, and remember gas prices are set based on GUESES about future production and demand. And, of course, any event that affects it at all can only make the price go up. There's absolutely no situation in which gas prices can go down due to external events. Then these companies whine about president Obama wanting to nix the unrealistic tax breaks that Bush gave them. They couldn't care less if I can afford to drive to work, as long as the CEO still gets his new Mercedes CLK 63 AMG. Next year he's upgrading to a Bugatti Veyron, and I'm dowgrading to a mountain bike. With bad brakes.

The only tax breaks the oil companies get are the same ones ALL business get in regards to capital depreciation, etc. There are NO special oil industry tax exemptions from the federal government. And they are going to preserve their profit margin regardless of their taxes, so taking even those exemptions away only means even higher gas prices. I do agree speculation is out of control, but if the speculators thought a massive supply of oil was coming online in the next few years, prices would be going down down down. And so I am firmly in the Drill, baby, Drill camp. :D

They still grind my gears. I'm trying to support a family of four on less than $700 a month, and that's not unusual around here. Just WHO can afford gas at $3.90 a gallon?

Wow yeah that is tough...I can afford gas at $4+ a gallon...only spend about $5 a week for it...:D...
wonder if the next post will be about me...

I hear ya man. No matter whose to blame it sucks. My gas bill for two cars last month was $550!

Here's what grinds my gears. I remember on Dec. 31 of 1999, they were saying the upcoming tech for the new century. Damnit, they were so off. Where is my flying car?!!

It's 2012, how are we *still* using non-renewable fossil fuels?! Solar power, wind power, c'mon! Science it up fellas!

Think about all the idiot drivers out there who are alive simply because it's illegal to shoot them. Now give all of them flying machines and let them play bumper cars over populated areas. No, I'm happy to have the intellectually non-gifted confined to two dimensions.

brotherswing, but then you'd have various elevations to contend for, merge down.... okay, it'd be quite confusing...

I always picture it as lower speeds for lower altitudes, so the 'high' speed crashes would be far worse (because they'd also fall down)....

;D

^ the first time I wandered out of the Evo Root section I was nervous. I didn't know if the entire forum was the same way. It was/is for the most part. Each area has it's own characteristics though. A really nice place. And FG is the bottom of the barrel, where all the deviants hang out. And their power-hungry demon warlord yeahha.

;D

RANT: from time to time, I find myself feeling beyond the reach of my comfort zone, and not in a good "this is new" way. And when this happens, generally there is nothing one can do. That is something that grinds my gears.

I was ill for a while, lost the site to phandroid and only just got it back now. On another side rant, I came out of the closet almost 12 months ago and have lost several friends due to me being honest :(

Welcome back. IMO if your friends can't accept you for who you really are they aren't really your friends in the first place ;) coming out takes a lot of courage and your true friends should be supportive of you and your lifestyle

Bummer, but don't sweat it. I'm not a Wiccan but I love their only commandment:
Do as you will, but harm none.
As long as it's between consenting adults, no harm is done. I honestly don't understand people who get upset over the orientation of others. I just don't get it.
I'm glad you found the inner strength to be yourself, and don't worry about the small minded people, you're among friends here!

Mad props to you, Julianne, for real. You will have more friends than you know what to do with soon enough, I'm sure. :D
