Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Slight rant... hopefully this gets resolved this week.

I live in an apartment, I've been here almost 3 years now. When I first moved in, it took them almost 6 months to actually assign me a storage locker - which I haven't actually even used because I pretty much use my 2nd bedroom for storage (I don't really have a lot of stuff to store anyway). I had my name & apt # taped on the door of my storage locker, and had a padlock on it, but about a month ago I accidentally locked my keys inside my work locker & had to have that lock cut off so I borrowed the lock from my apt. storage locker for my work locker. My apt. storage locker STILL had my name & apt. number on it so it clearly was a claimed storage locker even though it was empty & unlocked.

Last night I took a peek in the storage area & saw someone has removed my name & apt. number & now they have a lock on my storage locker, so I'm back to not having one again... UGH. Sometimes people are so annoying, whoever took my locker clearly just ripped my info. off the door!

Bjacks I actually thought about that, but if they have a bunch of their crap in there I'd need to put it somewhere & that's not something I'm going to deal with. I've contacted the office & we'll see if they can help me get it back. I have a new lock I just hadn't put on it yet, even though I don't have anything to put inside it at the moment. It just irks me to no end that someone would rip my info. off the door & just take possession because I didn't have a lock on it. Sometimes people are so rude & annoying.

Honestly, it's partly the fault of the office here, they do a lot of things right, but the reason it took so long to get a locker when I first moved in was because apparently some people had more than one locker & they didn't enforce the rules even then. Hopefully now they're more on top of things but we'll see. If they don't help then I'll start knocking on doors or do whatever I have to, but I'd rather not be a big pain in the butt to people I might run into in the building if I can avoid it.

No..... Cut the lock and put your own on the locker. WITH THEIR CRAP IN IT! Make it inconvenient for them to get their stuff. And if they have anything good in there, use it! Your locker, your stuff. Been there, done that. Law in NY was on my side.

I lived in a co-op (we owned it....) that came with a parking spot. When we sold the co-op, spot went with it. However, we had 2 cars, so we rented a second spot. If someone parked in "my" spots, (clearly marked for owners use only....) I had no issue having vehicle towed.... I have a sister who needed to park close. I PAID for spot. If there was an issue, take it to court. I won.

Well, I will wait to see what the office says, if for some reason they gave the other people the OK to take that locker they'll need to give me a different one. Besides, I don't have a lock cutter & I don't want to go buy one & risk them just cutting mine off, I don't want to get into a pissing match over who can keep their lock on there the longest, lol. I emailed the office Friday night when I realized what happened & I'll call tomorrow.

I completely agree with how you handled things. Apartment complexes can have bad people living within them, and it makes better sense to keep a low profile.

Be friendly when you're greeted or talked to in a friendly way, but, when it comes to your locker incident - let the property management people deal with the jerks. They'll end up taking the heat, not you. LW

I must've cleared the room again... good luck with the Android Forums app, Revenant One... I still have to enable the stock browser to upload photos, but, I've disabled Chrome, and uninstalled all of its updates. Google+, Drive, and the rest are disabled, because I've already experienced Facebook, and don't want any repeats of that.

I've got a fellow who wants to mentor my music career (for a fee, of course) - and, so far, his ideas seem sound... we'll see where that leads.

May everyone share a little Peace & Love, and enjoy your Sunday :)...

It looks like this guy who wants to mentor my career is more concerned about making money, than fostering my music career.

It saddens me. I can't come up with the $400 to procure his services, and I'm not even gigging right now... well, I guess I'll post some more YouTube videos, and continue to promote myself in slow motion, as I have been.

Damn it. That really hurts. LW

Have you approached magnatune.com?

"You knew what I meant" is not an excuse for improper grammar or metaphor usage. Can we decide collectively as a race that this dead horse has been beaten enough and stop saying this?

Crimson, the English language became bastardized Stateside when dialects were picked up from slaves, and decidedly became the norm in the American South. The same thing applies to what happened to the English language in the North, by the Puritans.

"You know what I meant" is a phrase that is used to deflect any negative response from the person who heard the original statement spoken.

I agree with you, Toker of the Crimson variety. Phrases like "My bad..." and "Baby Daddy" make me cringe, as if kids who were brought up in subdivisions were indoctrinated in 'inner city speak'...

I intend no offense with that last observation, but when you have generations who don't know about paragraph indentation, let alone cursive handwriting... I'm sure you get my meaning.

Did that last sentence create an echo of "You know what I meant?"

Close, but no cigar. Hang in there, CT - LW

Dude, that's way over the top.

First, our English was cut off and has stagnant expressions and form from Colonial times, just like Canadian French.

Secondly, the language has been peppered in the melting pot by every ethnicity that came along, by books, the media, popular speakers and too many other sources to name.

To lay the foundation on one ethnicity in the South is not only wrong, it's below the belt because it's propagating an untruth.

The best example of a language that is not constantly evolving is Latin because it's dead.

All of the ideas have not been thought yet and neither have all of the ways to express in any language all of the ideas and feelings that have come along already.

You want to be offended by a negative comment, fine, rant about it, that's what this thread is for.

But there's a line to not cross, regardless of intentions or an opinion that is not a fact.

Frankly, I'm surprised. :(

My apologies - I'm not completely incorrect in my assessment, and I had to learn Latin as a child due to Roman Catholicism.

No language is pure, just from dialects and the overall de-evolution of the way phrases have changed over time.

If this English major guy has overstepped his bounds, please forgive him. I intend no ill will to anyone here. LW

My bad, dude, I didn't mean to offend.

Yeah, I learned Latin from a dual language New Testament as soon as I could read and beginning at age nine in Catholic school and took it for 6 years. Mom's Sicilian, I hung out with the Franciscans and Jesuits until well past college and into my child rearing days and maintained fluency for quite some time, so don't test me on this, I'm not in the mood.

English major does not equal linguistic historian.

You are incorrect in your assessment but if you won't accept it, fine, that's your problem.

One more racist remark and it'll be your last here, I promise you.

I am very interested in the history of the English language... I really wish I had taken the time to learn a language like Latin when I was younger...

I was just reading a biography of J. R. R. Tolkein, and he was a philologist. I admire his facility with ancient languages, and the way he learned philology in part by creating his own languages and mythologies, only a fraction of which manifests in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

I intended no racism. I am truly sorry, and I remember your latin signature.

It's been a rough last couple of days for me; however, that is no excuse.

I responded to a post, and very badly. I'm usually in the role of arbiter whenever I reply, and, I've made a huge mistake this time.

Once again, I'm very, very sorry. To everyone in this thread. EarlyMon, that goes double for you. We seem to come from similar backgrounds, and I know the Jesuit side of it very well.

I always try to spread a message of Peace and Love. Today, I have failed miserably. I'm embarassed, and I promise not to post like that ever again. Carrying one's psychic baggage into a public forum can be reprehensible.

Once again, please forgive me. This thread has been a life raft for me in times recently past, when I nearly lost a loved one.

If you've made it this far - thank you for reading. I promise to rant in an appropriate fashion, and, to be a good 'ear' for anyone who needs any support, or commiseration. LW

Northern Flickers! They are WOODpeckers, not metal peckers. The idiot is sitting on our chimney cap drumming for a mate.
Yeah...when I was a kid, the Woodpeckers frequently hammered away at the aluminum top cap of the chimney.

Usually the Woodpeckers were trying to get at the bugs that lived under the lid
