Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

I like their services, but dealing with customer service gives me a headache. I just spent 40 minutes on the phone with them & I seem to have managed to actually come out ahead in the end. I don't think that's really possible, but for the moment I feel victorious!

I'm so proud of myself, I didn't even cry!! (When I get really frustrated the tears just come, & that frustrates me even more, I hate it) I just told them it was their mess & they needed to fix it without charging me more if they valued me as a customer. I didn't think they would do it but it seems like they did. And I have 30 days to confirm they're not just screwing me a different way, lol

Don't feel too badly about Comcast, PattiCakeUS - I was once one of their customers in South Carolina, and they gave me very fast down and uploads back in '04-'06.

About 12 megabits. They called it 'PowerBoost'. It was blazingly fast for that time. They also notified
you if your service was going to be interrupted, well in advance.

That's better than our power company, because:

We lost power a half an hour ago, due to a thunderstorm that lasted 15 minutes. They just called to update us, that we should have power in one hour and fifteen minutes, due to tree branch damage to their 1930s wire system (overhead, powerpole to powerpole).

Back in the 1970s, we had underground power wires in the area of Massachusetts where my family lived. The only time we ever lost power for an extended time was back during the Blizzard of '78. Most of Massachusett's power grid bit the dust for six days.

It was cold, but, fireplaces and an endless wood supply kept us warm. Not to mention a gas stove for food to cook upon - all of our groceries were taken out of both refrigerators outside.

Now, I'm hot and miserable. I suppose that's my rant... send some pixie dust to our power faeries in NC - LW

We have power... but, for how long? I've had to reset clocks twice, due to two second interruptions (off, then on).

I've taken my night meds... so, this rant is finished, and I'm outta here. Buona notte. :)

Comcrap took over Adelphia here. Adelphia called me a couple of names since I said all I wanted that I couldn't get OTA was NY Yankees baseball. Not being interested in their offerings is "Un-American?"
Now with the Roku, I can have it, plus the Giants and the Dodgers. (All were in NY at one time)
I see an awful lot of satellite dishes in the neighborhood.

I don't like Apple Pie and Chevrolet, either.
Blueberry Pie acceptable. Chevy didn't have a small single cab S10 when I went to replace the S10 I had.

"U LOVE IT" ....no I don't friggin' love it, this stuff is absolutely vile.

The new Chevy Colorados are Isuzu-derived, just like the old Chevy Luv.

I like Dutch Apple Crumb pie... due to my finances and Type 1 diabetes, that may be my dinner option (chuckle) - LW

Wish I could commiserate... I cut the cord a good decade ago.

I have not watched anything current on television in fifteen years, and I only occasionally view something on Netflix or Amazon prime... usually when Dngrswife is watching and I happen to be in the same room.

Wait...only wanting America's pastime is un-American?

We are cord-cutters at my place. We have a roku in the living room, a chromecast in my room. We finally bought a digital antenna so we can get local news plus basketball games.

I could do away with the TV service & just watch online, but I love being able to DVR whatever shows I like & just watch them when I want, without having to go look for shows & try to figure out "was there a new episode?" or go to multiple websites to watch the stuff I enjoy.

I have a Roku in my living room & another in my bedroom that I mainly use to watch Netflix, but unless I get immersed in a show on Netflix (like I am right now, re-watching Lost, next will be the new season of Orange is the New Black) I watch more stuff from live TV channels, but on my DVR. Although yesterday I was totally ready to just drop everything but internet if they didn't take care of the problem that they caused that was going to cost me money - so I was glad they did & I didn't have to change anything, & I'll save about $50 a month from what I was paying.

I get the most basic TV, it's $12 a month. I may see what I can get with a digital receiver some day. I have Roku and Chromecast that I use for Netflix, Amazon Prime, MLB and NHL. I certainly have enough to choose from.

We're Dish customers. I know, I know... we're just like everyone else trying to get that 4k quality, and 1080i/p at the minimal 60 Hz refresh rate.

We've got the Sling box, should we want to watch something on the laptop (or smartphone) and our internet is
connected should we
want to stream - but the
overall quality falls short when streaming.

Even at 4G speeds - we pay a bit extra for that, but the car's paid for, and, due to the assistance we both get - we get by. HDMI and all.

We're into HD For Life, mainly for films and shows that we save to The Hopper (whomever at Dish Network named that DVR/tuner must have a toilet fetish :)).

Monthly bill: $64 and some change, with Starz/Encore and Epix, Palladium (or, is it Palladia?) for tunes, and 55 channels. The bare bones, with two
premium packages.

I miss the Sirius/XM. But, we've got DishPerks featuring HBO and Skinamax for free (guffaw) this
weekend...

Recording time. 86 recordings so far, all in HD, using less than 4% of The Hopper's (insert flushing sound here) available memory.

Not bad for a couple with a limited income, and no streaming. The television picture is really good, for low-budget. ;) LW

We're Inner Mongolia Cable Television Network Bureau customers. Most things we watch are on the interwebs....arr!

BTW thinking about it. Don't think I've ever seen a DVR, not in China. Don't think anyone uses them here. Plenty of Video CD and DVD., but apparently nobody is interested in recording OTA TV.

I do record OTA. Not much, mostly football games when 2 games we'd like to see are on at the same time. We watch those during pledge week on PBS. Nothing of interest on broadcast TV. Even the kids when here would get games for the Wii and play those. After a series ended, they'd buy the season's DVDs and watch.

We still use VHS. It does have a DVD recorder, but the Vulcan records golf on VHS. We do have both exterior and interior antennae, so we get a few extra channels.

I wish there was a premium subscription only...just for Starz, HBO and Show Time. I get my news local and world news on line and use Netflix for Movies etc...I don't need 22 ESPNs, 13 NBCs or the plethora of other networks with multiple variants. It's like I have 260 channels and there's never anything on...[emoji20]

That is essentially what I've done - stripped the package down to the $29.99 plan, with Starz/Encore. Within the system menu, I have a Weather Channel app that gives me access to six geographical locations for weather (free).

Even though we don't have the channel itself.

I don't watch network TV, or local channels. I use the internet to get weather from noaa.gov on the smartphone, should the television forecasts prove inaccurate.

Even though it's cousin is a toilet, I do like Dish Network's The Hopper's features.

Every channel that we have is HD, 1080i/p, and after having an older style cathode-ray tube television - this is better, by far. LW
