Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Blocked the download on both 7 computers. The Vulcan didn't want it - he liked XP, and I plan to dual boot the laptop with Mint taking Win7 offline. It would never be updated or upgraded. It would just run the software I use which won't run on anything else and doesn't need an online connection to use.

My guess would involve "employment"

Some what, however, my job is fairly easy to find. Even a wage cut wouldn't be a bad thing.

What's holding me back? The better half has a secure job that is not as 'portable' and the kids have a great high school locally.

Maybe in 10 more years we can move

You are so right, @zuben el genub - we don't have Cortana, we've pretty much blocked location, and everything as much as we can with Winblows 10. Yet, for me to have the ability to play some XBOX online games for free is pretty cool - or, 'kewl', as the kids spell it now...

However, the 64-bit system runs smooth, and - damn it, the start screen is a welcome change from Classic Shell. But, as everyone knows, every operating system out there - including Mac - will have cloud tendrils attached - in one form, or another. Like you said, zuben - if you want privacy, you need an operating system that can run offline. Mint, et cetera.

One browser has Ghostery, and Avast; another (and I won't say which one, because it is a big part of Android) has script blockers from HELL. Change your Terms of Service, will you? I will protect myself, and my fiancee anyway that I can. LW

I have Mint KDE alongside 8.1... I rarely boot into Windows, truth be told.

Thinking about trying out Chakra OS or Debian.

Now, you've got me nervous, @mikedt ... doesn't anyone get that our privacy is disappearing? We contacted the bank, and they were the first to decline the purchase, since it was out of the United States... but, we called them, and the purchase went through. The purchase showed upon FastTech's order screen, approved! Then, they said that the .2 ohm coils wouldn't ship until the 13th. We bitched. As soon as that happened, that's when the smokescreen started. We sent them a picture, but, they were the ones to inform us "...do not send picture of back of card... your CCV it is for your security..." (their words, in the English they can type - and I intend no offense, because I would be even worse trying to respond in Chinese).

They want everyone to go through PayPal, which is no longer affiliated with eBay. They say it's free, but, it is not. Once again, yet another corporate entity knowing my purchasing habits (and, charging a fee for each transaction). In the interest of protecting corporations... which, in the United States, have more rights than individuals do.

This is bull****. To top things off, here's the kicker:

Early this morning, we received an email message that they wanted ANOTHER picture of the card, as their "...bank had authorized our past purchases...".

Yes, they want our business. Yet, they did away with their USA support 800 number. Look, everyone - I know that there are plethora fraudsters out there in the world. However, when you have a business relationship with someone - even online - they have to at least show some honor, decency and integrity to their customers.

Especially ones with a perfect purchasing history. Enough written. LW
I don't recall ever paying any fees to PayPal. I would think that would be the sellers responsibility. The whole point of PayPal is so you DON'T have to put your information on a million different websites. You go through them so you don't have to give your CC # to China, Inc. Sort of like when you order from Amazon Marketplace and Amazon takes care of the details.

I work with some of the nicest people, but seriously... these things grind my gears:
  • Clipping your nails at your desk (especially while we're still in the office trailer, it echoes)
  • Screwing around with the climate controls all the time
  • Opening the window in your office/work area when it's hot & muggy out & the A/C is on
  • Opening the doors & windows & expecting them to stay open for hours because you think the trailer "smells funny"
------------------------------------
Unrelated: when I read stuff on forums (not this one) where people feel the need for tl;dr cliffnotes at the end (or people respond & say they didn't read the post they're responding to). Since when are we all so incredibly strapped for time that we can't actually read what people write? These aren't work-related forums where I normally see this, & it always makes me want to slap someone :p

If I actually read what you write, it might just make my very important point moot. And that just can not be. After all, I am the center of the universe.

Sidenote, if you normally want to slap people, you might have anger issues.

Screwing with climate controls is the worst. LEAVE IT AT 69 F WHERE IT BELONGS!

I've known places that actually bolt the windows shut because of people who open them while the HVAC is running.

Didn't read the rest of your post, but it looks nice. :p

I'm with you there, I'm always cold at this job but I'd rather be cold than hot, any day. Yesterday morning & this morning, my coworker has been turning the HEAT on in our trailer o_O

@no one: I only want to slap silly people, it seems reasonable to me. FYI the only person I've ever actually slapped was my son once, when he mouthed off to me as a kid.
