Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Not to get too far into the political weeds here, but it was just a few days ago that a four year old girl was shot and killed in a road rage incident because of a driver getting cut off on a Texas highway. If he wasn't packing, maybe a middle finger and a few choice curses would have been the end of it.

Spam bots, spam bots and more spam bots. Is the Android Question forum really like that?

Anyway, I hate it when I'm tired and all but my friends won't let me go easily when we're hanging out.

In response to @bjacks12, look - if you feel that your life is threatened in anyway, you should be able to defend yourself - but, if it was me - I would've backed up, jacked up - and turned the guy into road pizza - under my wheels, baby.

"Your Honor, my client's dash cam and smartphone footage proves that the deceased threatened the life of my client."

Case dismissed.

Handguns aren't the only answer, when it comes to concealed weapons. The newer generations of handheld tasers have some knockdown power.

My late father, who became a State Cop at the age of 50 (before college, my father had been the 'property' of the Detroit Tigers; later, the Chicago White Sox) and though he smoked cigarettes, he was an athletic, tough nut of a guy who knew how to take care of himself.

He had an alarm system in his home. When he came off of his shift policing the highways, then later transferring to the Port Authority due to age, he told me:

"When I get home from work, my 9mm goes into its locked case, in the trunk of my car. Your mother wouldn't allow it in the house!"

Have we, as a society, lost faith in our police departments - and, would rather exact our own justice in the form of CCWs? In other words, whenever we feel threatened - BLAM(?!)

Make a return to our history, in the Wild West?

These observations that I'm writing are not political, or have to do with current events.

It has to do with morals, and scruples. We - as a society - should evolve, not the opposite. That's what grinds my gears. We need to examine ourselves, and our belief systems.

That's my rant - for what it's worth. @Gmash, I think you know what I'm trying to express here - a guy who has a registered handgun in the home, responsibly kept, with safety being most important - yet, ready to be used in self-defense, once the 'bad person' crosses the threshold of my doorway, with malice and forethought.

Just invent or find an electronic device that will mess with the engine. With all the stuff being put in cars today, hackers will have a ball.

(I'd go back to my Spitfire, Bosch ignition and all)

Good luck with that Spitfire... a nice, portable vehicle, which works great when it works. It's just the getting it to work part which can be enormously frustrating.

My rant today is about work: I am a bench tech. I am also required to work the line on occasion, which I don't mind doing... I just racked up an extra 35 hours or so this weekends from road trips. Yet, there's a whole shop of people--bench techs-- who don't work the line at all. Never even seen the inside of an avionics bay. Why are they getting paid the same as I am, when I need to hold as much knowledge, carry twice as many skills (hell, I have twice as many literal toolboxes)?

I haven't lost faith in police departments, they are necessary for investigating and prosecuting criminals.

I'm just thinking about math.

Criminal in the house, police 10 minutes away. Who's going to reach you first? Hopefully upon encountering me, he will just run off, but if he doesn't, then I'll do what I must to protect me and mine.

Please end the self defense conversation before I have to kindly suggest a PCA thread and clean. I don't want to deal with the inevitable "you took his side" complaints from at least four of the two parties involved. ;)

My neighbor smoked so much green stuff, my apartment was flooded with the aroma. We had to get a hotel and I'm sleeping here alone because my guy works nights (He's a LEO). I'm ranting because I could be in my own bed... But no Mr stinky let's smoke illegal stuff until we cover the whole complex, ruined it for me. =/

Couldn't just do it outside or go to a park? Anything but in an apartment below a cop and his girl....

I moderate on another forum.
It's a site that covers high school sports in Southeastern Ohio and northern KY and Wva.
We had a server issue while updating and lost 2 years worth of data. While it was being recovered we put up an updated site that is more mobile friendly. The data has been recovered and it is being archived and we are transferring post counts and such over to the new site.
My problem is that we had some trouble makers register several accounts and some even registered usernames that were in use on the other site. I have spent all my free time for 2 days sorting out fake accounts and removing them.

It is a huge mess that we are finally getting straightened out, but it's been a pain in the ass.

Can your SO do anything about it, as he's a LEO? I'd not hesitate for a minute to throw the book at the guy. Haven't met many potheads that I've liked

He's working on it but since it's not technically his jurisdiction, he's still got to go through a few channels. However he wants to move us into a house. Not that I mind, it's the moving part that sucks. =/

Plus you have to do your own upkeep in a house. I'll have to buy my own pool too. Though I'll be able to work from home now and buy that washing machine/dryer.

Ah the pros and cons game.

I hope whoever the person was at Ford who made the decision to let MICROSOFT design their infotainment systems has since been fired and ostracized from the industry.
I get ya...however, thankfully, so far I haven't really had any problems with my 2013 Ford Fusion.

The only problem that I have experienced was the Sirius Satellite Radio portion getting stuck on one station.

Luckily when that happened, all I had to do was completely turn off the radio, wait a couple of minutes, and then turn it back on.

What problems are you having?

I read a similar thread to this one, on another forum. Someone posted on there - that it bugs them when someone asks for an ink pen, because "like, uhh, what other kinds of pens are there?"

Someone else responded with:
  • fenway bullpen
  • penitentiary
  • Sean Penn
  • Pig Pen (Charlie Brown character)
  • Penn Jillette (from Penn & Teller)
  • Penn State logo
I thought that was pretty funny!! :D:p

But a similar thing for me - I used to know someone who called ground beef/hamburger - "hamburger meat" & that was annoying. Adding "meat" is totally unnecessary & always made me want to smack him.

I have some extra Hamburger meat if you'd like some. [emoji13] [emoji13] [emoji13] [emoji13] [emoji217]
