Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Nope. Dried it out and it's not working. Going to have to try and figure out if I bought insurance on this thing and see if it's still valid
Sorry to hear that man!
Well, it looks like I was smart enough to purchase a two-year protection racket plan for it.

Hell, I'd only bought it last May, so it's still under warranty... Don't know if Toshiba will repair it if there's water damage. :/
Glad to hear that you have a protection plan on it...hopefully you can at least get it replaced

When someone spills water into my laptop.

I'm seriously upset... I have nine people living in a house built for a family of four. I have one little space that is supposedly mine, next to the loveseat currently occupied by my eldest, who is sleeping in it, and everyone dumps their crap there.

Now, there's a sippy cup and a water cup there, and one of those must have been knocked over into my laptop bag, and my machine has water in it and won't turn on.

This was a $2,000 machine last year, I can get a refurb for $950 right now, and I don't have that kind of money just lying around.

How big is the area? Since it's a laptop you can use a small drafting table. Get a furring strip and glue it down where you will place your laptop, and put the drafting table at an angle where anything else slides off. That should stop that. I did that with my drafting table when I had it. I was doing artwork on it, though, but spilled water could mess up gouache and watercolor.

I got one of these for the laptop. So far, no one has tried to put anything on it.

Quick rant: when the advertised quick charging feature of a phone breaks your battery. Using quick charge on my Note 4 broke the battery quick. It now dies at 15% instead of at 0%

End of term exams 期末考试. Two weeks of it.

EDIT:

Dear David,

"Thank you for your letter. Here are the answers to your questions.

I live in Mongkok. My school is in Mongkok, too. I walk to school every day.

My father is a clerk. He works in Central. He goes to work by MTR.

My mother is a nurse. She works in a big hospital in Kowloon. She goes to work by bus.

My grandfather and grandmother live with us. He is a hawker. She is a housewife.

We do not have much money, but we are a happy family.

Please write to me soon. Tell me about your family.

Love,
Tony

I've have to listen to that being recited by students and mark them, about 1800 times!

I remember when learning languages was changed to aural rather than printed. Someone somewhere decided which dialogs were gave the best bang for the buck.

The upshot of all that, was you got the same stupid dialog in each language the school taught. I vaguely remember the one with food. The answer for what's for lunch was the only variation. In Spanish, you got albondigas, and in German, Leberwurst!
I found the same dialog years later when I looked at an adult Italian class. I think the meat was cappogallo.
(which, btw. seems to be have been pronounced gabbagool in local Italian enclave)

... and now I am suddenly hungry.

You know that person who has a pathological need to make an👍 excuse for everything under the sun? The same person who is absolutely miserable every other hour of the day because everything?

Yeah, she lives in my house.
My condolences. Miserable people have the tendency to make everyone around them miserable. If she's depressed, I hope she gets the help she needs.

On a totally different note, Happy New Year, everyone!

New Year's rant: idiots shooting guns in the air in the middle of the city. Yay, 'Murica.

Went to buy something in the local Vodafone shop the other day, for £25.. so I hand over £30 in cash.

This confuses the girl behind the counter, as Nobody has any kind of change in any of the tills! apparently everyone uses cards there! (took them 10 minutes as apparently they sent someone out to an ATM machine with a corporate card to get some real money)

I've actually see that kind of problem a couple of shops here in the USA...

The only difference was, at the two places, here in the USA where I saw that happen, both times the store clerks simply refused to take the cash. Both times the clerks said "Sorry, we only take credit cards...we can't give change“

The first time I saw that happen, the guy shrugged his shoulders, and pulled out a credit card. The other time, the older man got really upset with the store clerk, and demanded to see the manager.

Had a friend get arrested because both the clerk at the food court and the security guard he called thought the $2 bill was fake.

A manager showed up and straightened things out eventually.

It was a hilarious story...

How poorly made tent and travel trailers seems to be made, even brand new ones.

We bought a new/unused 2014 Palomino Basecamp 8b from a local dealership. Nov 28th 2015, 1 month after purchase, the dealership made an appointment for warranty work. I stated the following issues.

First thing is the roof does not open fully, I'd estimate 2"-3" short of where it should be. The lower half of the door into the unit is still not easy to open and the seal across the lower door is torn. On the inside around most of the perimeter of the roof there is a rust-like substance on the fabric, mostly on the edges. Cracks in the fabric are showing as well. All leading to questionable build quality and that proper inspection was not done before I picked up the unit. The manual is not very helpful and is for older Palomino models, not the Basecamp series which we own.

Fast Forward to Dec. 28th 2015:

I received a phone call that our Palomino Basecamp 8b was ready to be picked up. When I arrived I looked at the work order and noticed some things that I clearly stated in emails and in person were not done. On top of that I was promised a walk through of everything mentioned and anything else Meridian found while the unit was there. This was not done either, I was told to take the trailer home, wait for the parts to arrive (ETA 6 to 8 weeks) and then have the other issues addressed. When I got it home another issue appeared; the running lights on the front of the unit have water in them and rusty screws in the mounts. Granted that "if" the light cover is a snap on type water will get in, why on earth use uncoated screws in an exposed area?

We wanted a modest trailer to go camping with for the family to enjoy, something new with no issues. Well, we have a lemon. I'm waiting for the upcoming week for answers or multiple online reviews will be direct and to the point, BBB contacted, maybe even media might get involved. Accountability goes to the manufacturer and the dealership.
We are not happy customers and regret this entire experience.
