Okay, time for ME to rant...
Yesterday my Win10 computer was freezing so I restarted it. I was met with that teal screen of "Getting Windows ready - do not turn off computer". And it updated. And updated. 30 minutes. 50 minutes. 70 minutes. It was over an hour and a half... updating! I could have done a clean install faster than that!
Today, guess what? It happened AGAIN! I've been procrastinating but this "Getting Windows ready", when it has all night to do that, has taxed my tolerance to the limit. If Windows takes that long to get ready, it's just proof that it's a woman (I've been married 34 years so I can say that with authority). Nonetheless, my Linux flash drive has the latest bootable version on it. Now it's just a matter of backing up a handful of files, saying a find farewell to a couple of programs, and starting the process.
I've delayed the inevitable long enough: and while I will miss some of the proprietary software that doesn't have a Linux or open source alternative, my Microsoft account is set to expire in March. I'm going to LET it expire. By then I'll be on
Kubuntu and right back to work. I already have our NAS working as our in-house cloud storage so I won't miss OneDrive.
It's time to kill the beast.
