RC9 Update recieved 3am this morning in the UK

I'm in the Netherlands and received the update this morning, when I started Maps I got a dialog about Lattitude and I have a "Join Lattitude" option when pressing menu in Maps. I can't imagine that they've excluded this from the UK update when it is in the NL update being sent out at the same time?

No Voice search here btw.

Oh and after browsing the market (where you now can see which of your apps have an update available) for a bit and going to manage applications I saw that Market takes up only 3mb now instead of the 14-15mb it took up last time I checked. Phew!

I havent got that... Just checked....

As i posted in the list of RC9 updates thread there is the access to paid apps for uk users. In market go to all apps, then hit menu, change view. You should see an option for All, only free, or only paid. Sadly there arent any paid apps available yet, but hey its a start!

No latitude for me either. But if you go to google.com/latitude in the androids browser, you seem to be able to access it that way.

Has anyone noticed (who has rc9) if the pop email "connection error" bug fix is in this build? it was in the cupcake change list...

You can do it all in handset.

Download the anycut app from market, then create a shortcut to device info. in that at the bottom is a check for updates button. Voila!

Thats how i got mine to RC9

Me Neither Rozza. It completed the check successfully but I have no updates pending. Not a problem though as it hardly seems worth bothering about in all honesty.

Roll on RC11

We have been abandoned by T-Mobile... -_- lol...

RC11??

No RC10? O_o

Sorry I shouldn't have put that as it was just me being sarcastic. Just a dig that we keep getting things removed that other get so instead of there being an RC10 that would logically follow RC9 I put RC11 showing another missing update.

Ignore it as I don't want to start any rumours heh

Got my RC9 update OTA this morning. I dont know what it did to my phone but it certainly messed with the time settings. I use my G1 as an alarm to get me up for work. This morning my alarm didnt go off and when I finally woke up (an hour late) the time on my G1 was set to 14:32!!!

OMFG! My alarm didn't go off this morning either! I definitely didn't sleep through it - I never do. It just didn't go off! Strangely, I wasn't offered the RC9 update.

A guy I work with here did though. Maybe it's just a slow roll-out on Google's part.

What I want to know is: where is the release log? I want to know what's changes the updates are going to make to my phone *before* I accept the update! Most open-source projects are very clear about what changes a new version makes. I'm not impressed with Google's lack of information on this at all.

Same process as usual to install...
1) Download the file
2) Rename update.zip
3) Copy to SD card
4) Turn off phone, hold down home and press power
5) In recovery mode, Alt+L to see the text, and Alt+S to apply the update
6) Wait till it's done, reboot, and enjoy

If it tells you the file was not found...
(Windows) Open a folder view -> Options -> Folder Options
Turn OFF 'hide extensions for known file types', or simply rename the file to update instead of update.zip.

If you're still having issues format your SD card to FAT32 and try again.

The usual warnings
as with flashing anything, you want to make sure you DO NOT interrupt updates while they're running. Don't attempt the update with 5% battery life remaining, etc. I am not responsible if you brick your phone.

Updated by above method and worked great. I got my phone off Ebay and didn't know if I was on TMobile's 'LIST'. Thanks to devolio for the above. great work...

Can't see many changes with RC9 maybe I'm missing something...

I just tried to access latitude through google.com/ig on my G1 .. and then it works ...

but not through the map application ... anyone who knows what T-Mobile UK are up to?

Hmm, odd. Thats definatly how i got mine done. A collegue at work was showing my his that was updating at the time, so i tried the check for updates, and it started downloading the update. I had to check maybe 3 times before it did it.

Perhaps the rollout is area based? My collegues phone was updating at the time i did mine. We are in glasgow.

Appologies if it doesnt work for anyone else!

I'm East Coast from you so maybe if location based it may be working it's way across?

As I said though from what I can see I'm not missing much currently so not overly bothered tbh

followed your steps and it worked perfectly .. it found the update the first time.. and it can't be anything with geographical restrictions because I'm in the Faroes Islands..

takes awhile to reboot afterwards, but be patient.. the android logo appeared for about 2 minutes..

but something strange though.. before my phone was the UK version, but now it says: kila_eu-user 1.1 TMI-RC9 128600 ota-rel-key,release keys

I don't know if it helped that I placed the update file on the sd card before I set the "Device info" to search for updates..

You didn't type anything in the requested build type box..did you?

Nope. I just left it blank.

I think that all European users are being given a blanket update to encompass everyone. If you notice in the settings somewhere there should now be an option to change language - probably to German.
