Root Recommend a ROM!

TokedUp

I am so happy with my rooted DInc, thanks to everyone who helped me with questions this last past week and thanks to all the people who posted the guides. ive added a Hydra( 1152 like silk) but not a rom yet. I would like to keep a sense feel about my phone but not sure which one to go with. I wanna keep it simple and easy since i wont be changing much on the phone right away besides some icons and stuff. Few things I need to work well: I have over 2500 mp3's on my sd card and about 10 movies and need them to be flawless, I need slingbox to work, and the basics like gps wifi, 3g etc.... I would also like good support from the rom dev to keep it up to date and would eventually hope to get some gingerbread ( I want the new music player bad). Also does using a Aosp rom matter much? seems like most of the stuff on xda is only compatible with those types or roms. Also should I use ROM Manager or just d/l from web? please feel free to post what you like most about your fave Rom BUT also post what you dont like (if any) about it. I know I have more questions but cant remember right now, thanks in advance.

I would recommend Myns Warm 2.2, by far the best so far that I have used. Skyraider is also very good. Last night, flashed Uber Z Rom, really cool, but a little buggy, so went back to Myns.

I download directly to SD card and I do everything through recovery. Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache, then install, you are good to go.

Always make a backup of your current set up in case something goes wrong!

If you want a Sense ROM I would go with Sky Raider 3.5. It is a stable ROM and has most of the bells and whistles we all expect in a solid ROM these days. http://androidforums.com/incredible-roms/232632-rom-skyraider-3-5-12-06-10-a.html

If you are okay with a couple of bugs, I would check out the UBER Desire Z ROM. This ROM has the new sense which is awesome.

If you are up for a vanilla feel. I would go with CM 6.1 stable. CM 6.1 is the most customizable ROM out there, imo.

You could also get the new Gingerbread ROM. I have used all of these ROMs and I am happiest with the Gingerbread. It has a few minor bugs, and a fair amount of apps are not working yet because Devs have not updated for 2.3

As far as active Developers go, I think the Gingerbread ROM is probably the best. This ROM has come a long way in just a couple of short weeks.
I am not sure if Slingbox is working with Gingerbread. I know a lot of the free video player apps are not working with 2.3 yet, but there is a Chinese player that works well. I posted it in the 2nd page of the gingerbread thread.

I can't argue with SR sense, it was one of my first. However, I have a super stable rom flashed now, Redemption 2.3. [ROM] Redemption Rom v2.3 UPDATE: 12-20-10 Merry Christmas - xda-developers
Everything works, everything. Lou includes a very decent kernel with the rom and his development is top of the line. My two kids resisted root, thought I was a nut. I finally wore them down and rooted them with RR, I needed something that was not too foreign. They love it. I am actually using it as well but will flash OMFGB 6 later today, but it's a little buggy and not something I would recommend in your case.

can i get Sky Raider on rom manager or do I dl from net and wipe everything myself?
Either way will work. I like doing it myself from Clockwork mod just so I know the process very well. If you do it from recovery then make sure to backup first, then wipe everything you can find, then flash zip from SD card. Good luck.

I would recommenced going into Clockworkmod recovery and installing from there on your first few ROMs. ROM manager is a great tool, but I only use it for quicky installs.

Just make sure you wipe everything. Go into advanced and wipe Dalvik cache as well.

This! I don't even use ROM Manager. My thoughts, "if it ain't broke don't fix it" AFA the OP, +1 for Warm 2.2. Still the only ROM I've flashed on my Inc. It's so perfect and has everything I need/want I have no need to try anything else

I can't believe nobody has recommended MIUI. It's a complete UI overhaul with new menus, settings, and apps. I've been using it for about the past 3 months and although I have tried other ROMs, I keep coming back to MIUI.

I agree on MIUI. The only thing I don't like about it is the Gallery and Camera app.

I have tried just about all of them at some point, and they all have a thing or two that sticks out as being nice. For me the only one that consistantly does what I want when I want is Virtuous. It's a very subtle upgrade over the stock rom. Again, MIUI is a close second now that most of the bugs have been worked out of it.

Yeah. I forgot about Virtuous. It is probably the closest to stock and definitely the most stable. I just got bored with it.

MIUI is just not for me. I am not a fan of the UI.

flashed new r2doesinc gingerbread v6 with all gapps, works like a champ other than a few apps not working in market, but most that was not there before gapps are there now.. very happy so far with this rom

i just started using SR3.5 like it so far. any tips or tricks? How do I get to the /system folder to change the toggles in drop down menu?

Just saw this. Think I may have to check it out. Have you had any issues running it? I know its EVO framework so does internal memory not mount in disk drive mode?
Internal memory does mount. Some people have complained about some Kernel issues, but it can be fixed by just installing a different Kernels. there is some helpful chatter about this on XDA.

Really? That's great, thanks! I asked this question at XDA but find it's easier getting answers here. I read the thread and saw that some were having issues with Lou's #6 multi touch. I would probably just use #4 as I've had outstanding results with it

#6 works for me pretty well.

I was hoping I wasn't the only one. I ALWAYS recommend Virtuous as a person's first ROM. It's basically stock, minus bloatware, with a few minor apps thrown in (ROM Manager, Wireless Tether). You can think of it as training wheels, or the gateway drug to other ROMs. But seriously, first ROM should always be Virtuous :)

I have gone through a few roms and would recommend that if you are crazy about sense then go with virtuous with the incredible revolution theme or sky raider.

If you want no sense then go with ultimate droid. Not many people use that rom I do no know why.. it is amazing!!! so many bells and whistles and the embedded setting for the rom is just amazing. I absolutely love it.

I have tried MIUI.. I have tried to like it but I just can't. I hate it... why
1) It does not feel like android, I have grown used to android and love android for the way it works. MIUI completely changes that....
2) If I wanted my phone to look like iOS I would have bought an iPhone. I wouldnt buy an android phone and then make it feel and function like the iOS. I think it is just stupid.
3) I download many apps! like a lot!! and I do not want them to be all over my screens. I usually use 2 screens for apps i use all the time and the other 5 screens for the many widgets I use. MIUI will make you put ALL of your apps in your homescreen. Granted you still have the ability to add homescreens. but your apps will be taking up a lot of room.

just my 2 cents. try a few and see what you like. let us know what you decide!

To those that are considering using Myn's or other Evo framework ROMs, maybe it's just me but the font is tiny on all of them and it's really eye straining.
