[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

dollars to donuts the information Ben5 is currently withholding involves tiered data pricing being introduced with the thunderbolt... but at least the 17th is still looking good.
Yeah, my take on that comment as well. I really want this phone, but 4G is not for me if they go that route. (even though I have about 100.00 in accessories)

Added: I know, I should have waited.. I'm inpulsive, what can I say.:o

We might be looking at a launch like the Motorola Xoom, 3g for now with LTE to come?????

Possibly because LTE is not working properly in all area's, most are perfect, some have trouble. This is basically what Black_Man_X has been tweeting about. He says their working on it though.......

Bennnnn

It's not my department, but I can confirm that this was brought up as a suggestion if we can't get it out by the 17th. It's probably not going to happen since this is the "first 4G LTE device" and it would look bad launching an iconic 4G device that's restricted to 3G for the first month. People are working hard for you guys to get this out on time!

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have used the word "guarantee" as there is no such thing as a 100% concrete launch date with this phone. Our goal is the 17th and we're most definitely pushing for it.

Along with all of his other posts, this one stands out to me. Add in BMX's tweet about the reason for LTE still having issues now was due to VZW taking their people off of it in order to beef up the 3G in preparation for the iPhone4... wouldn't that also apply to the iPad2 since it's 3G as well? At what point did VZW realize they forgot about LTE and hadn't worked out all the kinks yet?

I want to be optimistic about 3/17, but I just don't see it happening. And by the looks of it, Ben5 is saying that if they miss 3/17, it will be delayed a lot longer

I don't think it'd mean it'd be a LOT longer, but it could be end of the month at that point.

I don't think it'd mean it'd be a LOT longer, but it could be end of the month at that point.

The reason I say a lot longer is Ben5's statement that VZW doesn't think releasing their flagship 4G LTE phone with 3G only for the first month would be good business. So, I take that VZW has thought about this option, and has figured that the 3G only option would be for the first month after release. Meaning, it would take another month to make sure the 4G LTE network is flawless... that's just how I read it

Yeah , most people are not going to have 3G a lot longer than a month because is is not in their area yet . Just release it 3G and update it when LTE is fixed.

All stars seem to be aligning that the phone is ready, but the network is not. VZW probably wants to force all folks into 4G tiered plans and push us out of unlimited 3G. They need the network to have more prolific 4G coverage to force tiered plans down people's throats when buying the TB and future 4G phones.

Without broader 4G coverage, they know trying to force 4G will not work. The delays are probably due to VZW strong desire to purge their network of 3G unlimite users. The TB is probably the first step in that plan.

If the TB can only be purchased with a 4G tiered plan, this theory will turn out 100% correct.

Yep. Use your HTC Thunderbolt to watch UNC win on the go. Seriously though. You'll be able to watch it.

if the bolt comes out with tiered pricing, they best have an option for those of us not in a 4g area yet. otherwise I will prob wait for the x2 or DINC2

I'd go with a comfy middle tier... But the data wouldn't just be for the 4G usage, I'd imagine it'd be for 3G usage as well

HTC would love for you to watch March Madness on the TB but vzw will have to feel that way also. :)

if they do that then it is a definite no. I plan on locking in unlimited 3g later today when my DINC comes in.

well actually I suppose it would depend on how much date I will actually use(I
ve never had a smart phone)

So for a guy like me, who has no idea how much I would use, does anyone think the new plans would break the bank?

I will probably be your "average" user, fascinated and on it an hour or two a day...playing around, having fun. I have no idea what constitutes what amount of data, but I'd hope I could afford a decent plan. I guess the idea is, does anyone think the tier will favor one kind of user over another?

A "better for most, but sucks for the top percent" kind of thing? Or a "everyone's prices will go up a tad" kind of thing?

Thoughts? (Now that the wife has given me permission to use some of her hard-earned cash for the TB and our plan, I don't want to lose out! :)

If you're currently with Vzw you can log into your acct online & view your data usage. That will at least give you an idea how much you're using now/recently.

I doubt they're going to charge people for two data plans.

Bennnnn

In all seriousness, no updates as of now. Haven't heard anything different than the 17th so seems to be on track. Lets cross our fingers and hope it stays this way.

I did, and I'm waiting to see how it plays out before I post it here. I don't want to give you guys information and then all of a sudden policies change, because it is very up in the air as of now. Once it is definite, I'll let you guys know.

Bennnnn

There's always going to be some space between launches, so really, it depends on how delayed it gets.

Would not be that. 4G supersedes 3G for other carriers and you simply go to 3G coverage in areas that do not have 4G. Catch is the TB apparently does not have a manual switch, so if 4G in the area or an area that both 3G/4G bounce around in fringe areas- bad battery life.

3G is a more efficient signal for both total cost and battery life. 4G is handy when you need it, but not all the time.

Be interesting to have a mic in the VZW board room ;)
