[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

I work at Best Buy in Phoenix. I decided to call the BB in Scottsdale to see what they think about the TB. I called and she asked what phone i was looking for. I told her(customer service rep) the Thunderbolt. She put me on hold. Then about five minutes later, came back and said "sir? That phone doesn't come out until monday." I said this monday, she said yes. I told her i heard it was being delayed, she said she just spoke with a mobile rep who said it will be out this monday.

If VZ is going to delay the phone, they may want to inform all the stores lmao. Maybe some stores will sell the phone on monday anyways since they haven't been told they can't.

That's the biggest problem with sales in general: not everyone gets the memo. But also people want to promise the world to keep the interest of customers even if it's a lie.

You can always tell the customer the delay was due to an exclusive feature that's being at the last minute and then the customer will think it's worth the wait.

And you will often hear different deals from different sales people. It's annoying but that's how it always seems to be.

Anyone know if 4G can be switched off on the Thunderbolt to save battery life in 3G areas?

I don't believe BB or VZW.

I walked into BB tonight and asked if they would have a live demo unit on launch day. The guy said probably not.

I told him that's absurd for either company to think it an acceptable strategy to NOT have a unit that customers can play with to decide whether to buy. I told him I'm not likely to buy some something I can't play with first.

He said if VZW gave a demo unit it would have to do so for every retailer that sells its phones.

So what? Verizon should be aiming for that anyway.

I want to know which imbecile at either company is in charge of such decisions.

Am I wrong here? What's so hard about setting aside a single unit for demo?

Cost.

If you go to a Corporate Verizon Wireless store you will find live demos for EVERY phone they sell. If you go to an "Authorized Reseller"...like some of the stores in the mall, you may see just dummy devices. Verizon doesn't "give" these stores demo units and the stores don't want to foot the bill themselves.

Best Buy usually only has the dummy phones on display. If they have a live version, they usually keep them "safeguarded" so the average Joe who comes in and puts his grubby hands on it doesn't break it while he's just window shopping. Best Buy had live demos for every store with the Nexus S...but that is a Best Buy "exclusive".

It's annoying, but you also have the 14 day period to exchange the phone if you don't like it (not to mention that you can probably ask them to show you a real one prior to deciding)...so that eliminates some risk if you buy the phone blind. But I choose the Fascinate over the Droid X because of the hands on time I had at the corporate Verizon store. I had watched many video reviews for both devices but my hands on time is paramount before selecting a device.

Which is different than manually switching to 3G in a 4G area...and I believe that is what the poster was asking.

4g has a sim card in the Thunderbolt. Seems all you would have to do is remove the 4g sim card. It's at the bottom of the phone under the edge of the battery. That way there is no way it can log on or search for a signal. Am I right?

With the Droid X2 specs leaked recently, it makes me want my Thunderbolt even more now. I couldn't care less about the dual-core aspect. The Thunderbolt's got everything I need. Counting down until the release so I can throw down a 1-year contract on one. Now if we happen to get an LTE HTC phone that gets a laptop dock like the Atrix within the next two years, then we can start another conversation. ;)

Looks cool but I'm not sure about motorola products. Will HTC make a Tablet soon?

HTC is making a few tablets, but as of right now I think they are sub 3.0. Not sure why they would be making anything less than a Honeycomb tab right now unless they are insisting on a Sense-like UI. BTW, they are calling their tablet version of Sense "Sensation" I believe.
