Root Remove Sense!

octoarms

Newbie
Hello
Well, I have a rooted EVO 4G stock ROM, and as much as I love the phone, I HATE SENSE. So, this brings me to the question, is there a way to either "freeze" sense or remove it? I really don't want to ROM it, not that I'm scared, but it's my work phone, I brick I'm screwed (yes I know about doing a nandroid but I'm a bit scared after I hard bricked my N4G). I would much rather have a stock look then a skinned look, and though I am thinking about an ICS ROM I haven't built up the courage.

Hello there octoarms!
In order to remove the Sense overlay, you need to flash another rom such as an AOSP rom. Decks is a good choice.
I know you said you would prefer not to flash another rom, but that would be the only way:)
Sense is stock on the Evo4G...and some roms are Sense based, others are AOSP based (pure Android).

I understand your apprehension about flashing. And yes, sometimes things can go wrong if flashing a rom is not done properly.

If you got time sometime, we can help you backup and then flash a rom:)

Bah! Thanks anyways. I had an E3D and was told the same I was hoping someone could of figured it out by now. O well. I know how to do a Nandroid B/U I have the TWRP Recovery and S-ON I just use the fastboot command fastboot flash recovery XXXX.img and it gets me there. But that brings me to ask can I flash a ROM that way or do I NEED S-OFF?

Well, if I am not mistaken, and I could be wrong, TWRP recovery may not be the best recovery for the Evo.

If you decide to use it, I would wipe very well and wipe 3 times before a rom flash.
In other words, download the rom to your sd card and do not unzip it.
Verify the md5 that is posted, (or should be posted) in the op.
Boot into recovery.
Make your nandroid backup.
Wipe data, boot, system, cache, dalvik cache but do not wipe the sd card.
While in recovery, find the rom on your sd card and flash it.
Usually in the rom's op, you will find instructions on how to flash.
If you decide to flash an AOSP rom, there will be gapps to flash in the same recovery session.

Gapps are, for a lack of a better term, google apps.

Edit: wait a sec...how do you get into recovery?

I go through fastboot command line and do something along "fastboot flash recovery XXXX.img" then click on recovery and it takes me there

You can always use a launcher.

Tried it, not the same. I want a stock look through and through I want as little as possible running on this Single core snail (sorry it's the truth, my NS4G FLEW and my E3D was nice. And I might one day buy a newer Sprint phone if my boss will activate it on his account in place of the E4G)

You can get into recovery thru the bootloader screen or an app called Quick Boot in the play store

I still have S-ON with the stock recovery, that's why I do the fastboot command, I don't mind really, kinda keeps me in line. I just wanna know if it's possible to flash doing it the way I do it now. I mean I installed SU just fine doing it this way but is it safe?

What rooting guide did you follow?
I would recommend you install a custom recovery.
Go to this link:

Click on "show" under the HTCDev method. You can skip that unlocking part as I assume you are unlocked, s-on. (your bootloader screen will indicate that status)
Then scroll down to "How to get Recovery" and install the recovery listed there.
From that recovery you can now make nandroid backups and flash roms.
Like I said, I recommend Decks Reloaded, which I believe, an update is in the works.

CHEERS MATE! I have my E4G ROM'D with CM9 (unofficial) looks and feels so smooth!

You gents talking about sense is nonsense.
Some are on the fence about sense.
My 2 cents --- I don't like sense and hence, I don't run sense.
Some have a preference towards the ambiance of sense and it's influence.
I like this conference about sense and let your conscience guide your preference towards sense.
