Replacement X will it be a refurb???

If your phone is within the 30 day period you absolutely should receive a new device. New devices will come in the same retail package as the one you originally bought. Not a brown box either. It will come with all the same accessories as the original phone too, battery, back cover, charger. Do not accept anything else.

And this DOA issue regarding getting a replacement. Regardless if the phone is classified as DOA or not. If you are within your 30 period, the device is suppose to be brand new, not a refurb.

Some of you may accept the fact it's a refurb. I do not.

August 23rd??? damn are you sure man? Even the VZW website says August 3rd..

but yeah i was wondering about getting the 30 day extended if needed be due to no stock. I asked the lady at the store where i bought mine at yesterday and she said she would have to ask her manager but i got the feeling that it wouldn't be hard for me to get the 30 day extended.

Haha, maybe I didn't hear the pencil pusher correctly. Probably meant to say Aug 3rd. Get that 30 day window pushed out too.

I just bugged VZW again about this. This time, the rep took a look a the ESN history and confirmed that this phone has never been used before. I'm feeling better. And so far, the phone is working ok.

to update everyone FedEx delivered my phone today. I called and had my GF open it and it is a new unit.

I just got off of the phone with vzw about my replacement and they said they would ship me a brand new phone but it would come in a brown box with no accessories. I would just be required to send back my old phone. We will see if it is in fact a brand new phone

I was told I would be receiving a brand new phone, original packaging, all original accessories included. I am supposed to send back everything from my current X.

Same here, the customer support agent was very thorough on this being the case.

Guess I'll find out tomorrow when mine arrives

I was offered a similar replacement; just the phone, no battery, no back cover, no sd card, no charger. I would then just have to send back the phone. I was told these were ones pulled for warranty claims and that this could go out for shipment the next day.

The only problem with this was that it would cancel out the 30 day worry-free guarantee. I specifically asked about this and the tech rep put me on hold to check. He then came back and stated that because it's a warranty replacement, I would no longer be able to return it under the 30 day guarantee. Makes no sense to me but that's what I was told. Anyone getting one of these replacement phones should check if the 30 day guarantee is intact.

The other alternative was to have a complete new in packaging phone shipped to me under the 30 day guarantee, which wouldn't affect my 30 day guarantee. The wrinkle in this is that it would not go out until 8/4/10 and I had to pay a deposit equal to the original purchase price which would get credited back when they receive the defective phone. I went with this option myself. I figure I will call after the phone arrives to try and have the 30 day guarantee extended for the days the phone was backordered.

Aw man I was unaware that this replacement would void the 30 day return. With reports of others getting sealed boxes, I'm assuming that the brown boxed ones are refurbished now. My case is a little different though because I bought my phone through best buy and vzw said it's okay for them (vzw) to send me a replacement.
Basically my 30 day is with best buy and not vzw.

I don't think it will be refurbished. They assured me repeatedly that they are brand new phones that were pulled specifically to replace phones that were having screen problems. It might even be that these phones might have gone through additional quality control since they are supposedly for replacing the well publicized screen problem.

Hopefully, all of our replacement phones will be perfect and won't even have to worry about the 30 day guarantee.

This has to make you wonder if Verizon is starting to do their own QC with the shipments they're getting from Moto to help weed out the Bad apples, then setting some of those aside for Warranty Replacements.

BTW in this YAHOO ARTICLE the last portion of it mentions the display problems and appears Moto has found the cause of that.

The refurbs have begun!! :(

did you receive a refurbished phone for a warranty replacement?

Warranty shouldn't really come into focus since we are only in 12 days after the X's launch. The only way I could even see this being the case is if someone dropped or damaged the phone themselves..

Either way, I'm intrigued.

I can't see someone still within the 30 day guarantee accepting a refurbished unit either. Not sure what it is that he posted.

Did they make you pay for the replacement unit up front on your phone?

I'm just sayin.... if you are being offered a replacement phone immediately, it's a refurb. If you are being offered one in a brown box, no battery, door or accessories, it's a refurb.

VZW has no backup plan for replacements. How would you think customers who ordered a week ago still have no phone when you are supposedly getting a "new" one in a day? LOL, you're not.

Yea I wasn't comfortable with "just the phone" deal so refused that offer and insisted on a complete set in original packaging.

But I still can't see them lying about it being a new phone if they are, in fact, sending out refurbished units. Just seems like it would give the whole defective screen issue more traction.

I too was offered a brown box deal with only the phone, no battery or battery cover. i will be receiving it in a day or two. Is there any way to check the phone to see if it is new or refurbished?

This was to replace the rattling earphone piece and lag / unresponsive screen issue.

The picture was from an email I received that I would be getting a 'certified-like new' phone tomorrow.

If it fixes my problems without adding any further issues, I'm all for it. We'll see.

Did you have to "pay" for the replacement phone upfront? When they offered this to me, they said they could ship it out to me without putting through another charge on the c.c., whereas one in packaging had to be charged.

And did they tell you it would be a new phone when it was ordered?

No charge was mentioned prior to the phone being sent out. However with that being said, if the problematic phone was not sent back within 10 days then a charge would be placed for the phone.

The tech support representative stated it would be new but....obviously he was mistaken.

As I said if it addresses my issues without introducing new ones I'm all for it.

I received a certified like new Incredible last week and it is perfect so far. Actually better than the 2 previous brand new devices. Have no fear, your refurb is here. Lol

Exactly! I've had the phone for 12 days. I paid good money for it. Refurb is a no go in my book.

I ordered my original X on the 15th, rcvd on the 16th, died on the 19th. Replacement ordered on the 19th, received on the 27th. Brand new, in original (labeled) box, all accessories & paperwork included.

To follow-up, I just received the replacement phone.

- The rattling on the earphone piece - Fixed
- Unresponsive touchscreen - Still testing

Everything seems peachy on this phone no issues thus far. Woot!
