Help Report light leaks here, please

If it wasn't for this thread I think I would not have discovered this light leakage for a good long while, it really doesn't bother me all that much though.

Either I've been very lucky with phones or I have no idea where to look for "light leakage" that I keep hearing about. So if I don't see it does that mean I don't have it?

Serious question. And yes my eyes are fine at 20/20, lol

Mine has the exact same thing. A ring around the bottom that comes up to about even with the screen. I'm going to try living with it. I do notice that it's worse to the right of the search button.

who is gonna take theirs back?? I think i am going to do so. it may be a pinhole size dot but... do i want to see it every day for the next year? no

Update: My light leak doesn't look like it's getting any worse. Still one pinhole by the search button. two even smaller ones by the home button, and the normal light along the bottom. I don't even notice it unless I'm in a completely dark room. It's nothing I would return the phone for, but I know some people are certainly picky about even the smallest flaw.

Just wanted to let people know that it doesn't look like it's getting any worse. So what the phone came with; It should stay that way and not degrade any further hopefully.

I have some light leakage all across the bottom then up both sides till its about even with the bottom of the screen itself.

Exactly the same as both my first 3vo and it's replacement. doesn't really bother me though. I can only see it in dark areas. Now if this manifests into screen separation... then there will be problems.

Well, my first 3VO had a dead pixel or two... now this replacement has two miniscule dots of light leakage (one inside the search button circle and the other just outside of it. Kinda blows...but this phone is still AMAZING!!!! I wonder if I could tear this baby down and paint over the spots???

I emailed HTC about this issue and another one... here is what they had to say:

Dear ****** ********,

.... As far as the light leakage, keep an eye on for a few days. If it does worsen, you may see about obtaining an exchange with Sprint, or you may contact our Repair Department at 1-877-293-0807 (8 AM - 8 PM EST 7 days a week).

Sincerely,

Lisa - HTC

Hope this is useful to somebody. :o

Yeah i cant believe HTC cant figure out how to release phones without light leakage. I know it isnt the biggest deal. But it is annoying at night in your bed trying to read and it just bugs me. I covered up mine with some permatex black silicone. And it went away. But it still blows that I had to put some effort when it really is HTC's obligation to release almost flawless phones that cost 600 dollars.

Heres a weird one. When my backlit keys are off, the Search Key is still semi-lit.

My Evo 4G Search key had the faintest little glow to it when the backlighting was off right on the handle of the magnifying glass (it was tolerable), but this is very clearly light wash from the screen or something. In fact it brightens and dims along with whatever my screen brightness is set for. It must be missing a bit of shielding above the keys.

I didn't really know where to post this... but... I have a little light-leaking out next to my search button. It's very small. Nothing big enough to make me want to get a replacement. It's like pin-hole sized, but it's definately there.

Freaky.. I came looking for a light leak thread, turns out the OP had exactly the same thing as I have now. Picked up my 3D on 6/24, today 7/7 a pin-hole sized leak appears between the Back and Search buttons.

It's strange that several people, including myself, have had the exact same sized pin-hole leak in the exactly same area. Right between the Back and Search buttons; a pin-hole sized light-leak that does not increase in size with time. When I see coincidences on this scale I start to think maybe it's not a coincidence.

It could be something silly, like the glass lamination machine had a small piece of dust on it or something. Like how an ink-jet printer can create the same error on page after page if the printing heads are not clean.

However, I don't know how the back-coating lamination process works. I'd imagine it's similar to chemical etching with a color applied to the top of it. Frankly, I am ignorant to the way the process works.
