Help Report light leaks here, please

It's strange that several people, including myself, have had the exact same sized pin-hole leak in the exactly same area. Right between the Back and Search buttons; a pin-hole sized light-leak that does not increase in size with time. When I see coincidences on this scale I start to think maybe it's not a coincidence.

It could be something silly, like the glass lamination machine had a small piece of dust on it or something. Like how an ink-jet printer can create the same error on page after page if the printing heads are not clean.

However, I don't know how the back-coating lamination process works. I'd imagine it's similar to chemical etching with a color applied to the top of it. Frankly, I am ignorant to the way the process works.

I'm guessing that they screen print the reverse of the display side..

:( just found a piece of dust under the glass. This is a new and saddening development.
While using a flashlight with the screen off looking at the dust speck, I noticed on the left side in the very small gap between the screen edge and the bezel there is a break in the seal. There is also probably not a great seal around the bottom where my light leak is. The dust got in one of these weaknesses I'm guessing.

Sorry to hear that.

I have one piece of advice for you, if you'll be open to it - it's a man made object, and will always have some sort of flaw with it as man can never make anything exactly perfect.

So the way I look at it is, as long as what ever I perceive as wrong doesn't affect the way I use the device, I can live with it.

I never realized that my Evo 4G had some dust under the screen, until one day I took a magnifying glass and looked closely. I became very upset and it threatened to ruin my day. Then I thought to myself - if I hadn't noticed up until now with a magnifying glass, and the screen still worked perfectly, why do I get so worked up over it? I have a lot more things to worry about - work issues, trying to eat well and get enough exercise, taking care of my family etc., why allow this trivial thing to ruin my day?

I chose that day to not worry about it, as it did not affect the usage of my phone. I have been a lot happier since, because I made a choice that an inanimate object would never ruin my day or my life.

I hope this helps you a little bit. :)

Keep an eye on it, if it gets worse, get a replacement. In the meantime, enjoy it, use it, and try not to think too much about it.

Yeah, its a real bummer. I'm not too bent over it, although I really liked your Zen perspective :D

Its one big speck of dirt. It looks like a bad pixel with the screen on, but with it off you can tell its a trapped foreign object.
I'm just past 30 days (mind you this is a week old handset, got a replacement on day 29 for bad enough light leak that I couldn't possibly handle for a whole year or two. This new one turned out to have light leak too but less and now a dust speck that just occurred in the last day or two). No insurance, so no replacement probably.

This is supposed to be a top of the line phone and two series in a row they have released it with light leaking all over the place. I'm a little annoyed with HTC for this. It can't be that hard to build a phone without having the LED leaking out at random places. Still love the phone, but this is getting ridiculous.

ine has the light leaking all around the bottom as others have said.. i only notice it at night time though..

also.. wth is up with the black housing losing its color.. geez.. looks like crap.
