Root [REQUEST] Link to the latest Anthrax Kernel

Is it recommended to use Anthrax? How is the performance/battery life? Thanks

I THINK this is the latest version, can't remember where I ended up finding it. Only ran it for a day and it performed flawlessly, as for battery life I haven't used it enough to say.

David,

Can you link me to where Chad expresses that, please?

I've look at his site and don't see anything there...I've heard that there might be a post or thread here?

Thanks!

originally it was just what people were telling me...
but your post caused me to do some research...
here are some quotes (its a long read so i bolded the important stuff):

Section I – Definitions
a) Anthrax Kernel: is definded as any and all kernels, drivers, and/or software developed in whole or part by Chad Goodman.
b) Organization: is defined as anthrax-kernels.us
c) Developer: is defined as (but not limited to) Chad Goodman.
d) client: is defined as anthrax-kernels.us
e) member: is defined as registered users of the organization who volunteered to test products of the orgainization.
f) user: is defined as registered users of the organization who volunteered to test products produced by the orgainization.
g) user agreement: is defined as this document, and attached exhibits and documentation.

Section II – Availability and Distribution
a) “Antrax Kernel” are only available to members of the “organization”. Distribution and/or use outside of the “organization” is prohibited. If a “member” decides to distribute the “developer's” work outside of the “organization”, the “member” is obligated to comply
with ALL GPL license requirements, as well as the restrictions in place by any non disclosure agreement(s) in place.

as you can see, the kernel is only available to members of the "organization."
In Section one, the "organization" is defined as anthrax-kernels.us. So unless you are a member of anthrax-kernels.us, you should not have access to the kernel.

Section III – Implied non disclosure agreement
a) “members” shall refrain from providing binaries, source, and other contents of the “software package” to anyone outside of the “organization”
b) “members” shall refrain from any attempts to decompile, reverse engineer, and/or decrypt any part of the “software package”
c) “members” shall refrain from disclosing any privileged information found in any thread or documentation provided by the “developer” or the “organization”

It's more GPL rules. This forum is public, his site is private. GPL loophole says he can keep the source code private if he doesn't distribute the kernel publicly. If someone posts it here on a public site and gets asked for source, they're responsible for coming up with the source they can't get since they're now distributing the kernel publicly.

I think it's a bunch of ego-inflating nonsense that's bad for the community as a whole, so I don't use his kernel.

Yeah unfortunately its just a silly situation over there. Causes too much hype as well.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I tried to find that stuff on the Anthrax site, but unfortunately you've got to be a member (signed-up) to be able to view it (but you don't have to to read the discussions about "other things" as alluded to) and I'm not a member. Would be nice if those policies were available to the public at-large ;) :).

I was looking for a reinforcement here so it didn't seem like we were asking that a download link was to be taken down for no reason.

It's always a good practice to cite/source/link downloadable files from the original / official source unless you are the author or owner of the work in question.

I see that the download links have already been edited-out by the guys above--thank you all--much appreciated :).

Just a side note but the reason chad does his work privately is because most evo 3d devs have a history to kang/steal chads work without giving him any credit; and chad being a awesome experienced kernel dev, have a lot of work/code/fixes/improvements that would be stolen on the spot. I'm not going to go into much detail but chad also have had legal trouble with HTC for not sharing his source(yes he is that good). As a ex-developer and as a human being, getting your work kanged and not getting any credit is a horrible feeling especially when the dev that many denies kanging until you show proof.

Usually Midnight ROM has the latest Anthrax Kernel. You could always download the ROM and get the boot.img from there
