I think you are just NUTS to think that when the google chairman says in passing is really definitive. Is this what you're working from?

Eric Schmidt: Ice Cream Sandwich coming in October or November -- Engadget

To my knowledge this is the ONLY source for all this hype. I'm NOT saying it is untrue or wont ever happen, but this just reading a lot into a passing comment.

You just didn't pay attention to this recently if you think that's the ONLY source.
It's not just this source. There were multiple others way before that including BGR article on Droid Prime coming exclusively to verizon. Also Samsung indirectly admitted they are making Nexus Prime and now created site for that too. It passed bluetooth, wife certification recently and obviously next stop is FCC.

So how is that just reading a lot into passing comment? Also how can they just release new OS without device it's running on? If my memory serves correctly, gingerbread was announced with Nexus S last year.

I think the focus should be on when Sprint will get the Nexus Prime. It is all but acknowledged that Verizon will have an exclusive on the phone when it is eventually introduced, whether that be October or January.

The real question is how long will that exclusivity last? I would imagine that Verizon will have the Prime for at least three months following introduction. So, at best, we would look to Sprint having the Prime in February.

There is always a better phone coming along. That's why I ordered the Epic 4G Touch.

seriously, been waiting around 4 months for this phone to hit the us already on a personal level, the idea of waiting any longer is like taking an ice pick and stabbing my eyes.

People need to get off the "I need to have the best possible device" train and focus on having a device that meets all their needs and will make them happy and sated for a time. The gs2 is still that for me based off what I have seen. Would I like a higher res screen, sure, will I be upset at not having one when other phones leapfrog the gs2? no, because the package of the gs2 is still so awesome in its own right I will feel no envy for some time to come.

The gs2 was, and still is a dreadnought class phone, it's like that german battleship Bismarck that took on all comers for beat them all, and like all great warriors it will eventually be bested, but it is not, and never will be considered some cheap knockoff device. It's place in history and time is set... at least for a couple of years.

The Droid Prime is, but isn't the Nexus Prime. It's Verizons version of the Nexus that will most likely have an overlay on top of it. The Droid will be exclusive to Verizon, not the Nexus.

I also think Google will actually try to release this on more carriers simultaneously to help compete with the iPhone.

The source came from him not some anonymous tipster like most rumors. You go with your opinion and I'll go with mines. When it happens I won't even say anything because its just logical. What your saying is based off nothing but doubt. Not even a rumor but just doubt.

Not trying to be your enemey over something silly. Anyways, what device do you like or want?

Yea, some people are getting the two confused or assuming the two will be alike in benefits or whatever. We shall see. Personally, I don't think any IC phone will beat the Nexus out for launch first. I mean...

Anyways, this is a Epic Touch 4G thread right? I just now pre-ordered one through LogicBuy for a total of $154.00 and free overnight shipping through LetsTalk. If I was a new customer, then I would of had it even cheaper for $134.00. I was able to upgrade so that's why it was $154.00. No tax was included when making this order. I live in VA. I know we have tax, but I am assuming for this special buy they are excluding it...? You will have to pay the new activation fee Sprint has added. But that will be included in your monthly bill first time around. My plans have not changed. The only thing that has changed, or will change I should say, will be the phone :). They sent me an email confirming everything and an order number. Hoping they receive the phones before launch and I get it on launch day, or I will get it a day after launch.

Sprint still covers the protection etc. They actually say in the confirmation email they will shoot it over to Sprint making sure you are qualified etc. They even make sure you have this and that proving you are a Sprint customer if you are upgrading.

Man, still no other reviews to watch? Looks like we'll have to wait until next week for the Wirefly part 2 review.

Well like I said, I was asking if that interview was the only source for this news about oct-nov release of nexus prime. Apparently there are more sources, thats all I was asking.

To answer your question, the lure of the nexus prime is amazing - just the HD resolution screen is enough for me to want it. However, I think this is akin to not buying a sexy girl dinner tonight because there might be a sexier girl sometime in the future. I seem to remember the original nexus being on Tmobile only for many months. Past does not always indicate future but there is still far too much up in the air for me to want to wait for this device. If I knew for sure that Nexus Prime was dropping in Nov, Dec even January for sprint for $199 I'd hesitate to buy the E4GT next week. But we don't even know if it'll come in January! And reviews could be bad, it could have problems (iphone4 reception "hold it differently" type issue comes to mind). Anything is possible at this point. I'm going with E4GT for the win. I already skipped the evo3d. I was set on getting it but when the reviews were finally revealed, I was less than wowed.

Look at it this way too, Sprint is having some awesome high end phones....

1) HTC EVO 3D in June
2) Motorola Photon 4G in July/August
3) Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch in September
4) iPhone 5 looking like October range

With all that, it would be reasonable to expect that the Nexus Prime wouldn't hit till early 2012 because there's already a bunch of high end devices hitting Sprint in the middle to latter stages of 2011.

Even if the Nexus does hit in Nov/Dec timeframe, it's not like the E4GT is not a great phone, it still holds up as a solid high end device. Super AMOLED + is amazing, the Exynos dual core processor is beastly, the screen is a big 4.52 inches.. I mean it's a fine choice for a lot of people, even with the Nexus considered.

And there will always be something bigger and badder coming down the pipeline, that's fact. So if you sit and wait based on rumors of better phones, you'll be waiting an awfully long time. Each person needs to decide what is enough for them to last them a while and do the things they need, and want it to do.

I really think we should all remember the topic of each of the threads in this section. This really isn't the place to discuss all these rumors, this is the forum and threads to discuss the Epic 4G Touch. Go to the Android lounge if you'd like to discuss rumors, please. :)

Just out of curiosity - the phone is $99 through letstalk.com. Why didn't you go direct?

EDIT: I just saw that it is $155 through them for upgrade. For me in texas this is $60 cheaper than sprint store assuming $0 shipping and no tax to texas

I know right.

This is the UK version but since not much is different I expect these neat tricks to be on the US version as well. Some of them i didn't know this phone could do.

Thanks for the video!

Yea, logicbuy and letstalk are kind of like one. I think your tax will be ZERO. I've read everyone else's comments and they've also had no tax.

You welcome but there are no new videos. Unless you like repeats. At least we are talking about the phone which we all look for videos for. Otherwise this thread wouldn't be touched until early adopters and launch day.

Yeah, yeah...I was just sayin'. ;)

I was really looking forward to Part 2 of the Wirefly review! :( Not trying to beat a dead horse, lol.

Idk what is taking then so long. Guess they don't want to be to ahead. I wouldn't care. A co sumer like us will have a review video up before them lol.

Benchmarks are cool and all but I really don't care about them. I think that is more so for gamers. I just want the user experience to be good with real use. I like time consuming games and addicting ones. More role playing and action type games I rather play on a console. Plus I get over 3000 with my overclocked Nexus S4G. But I'm sure it'll never handle like a SGSII so that's why I don't pay attention to that.

You might want to go ahead and read the conclusion page. Check this out

"There’s no doubt in my mind that SGS2 is the most powerful smartphone out right now, both in the synthetics and in just subjective feel. That’s thanks in large part to Exynos 4210’s dual core Cortex A9s at 1.2 GHz and ARM’s Mali–400 GPU. The end result is an experience that’s buttery smooth and rarely shows any signs of being want for more power. Mali–400 alone is twice as fast as any other smartphone GPU out right now, and Exynos 4210 seems likely to vie for performance crown in Android-land until the start of 2012"

And farther down in the review:

"I really have to admit that I went into this review expecting to be massively underwhelmed with Galaxy S 2. Here we are at the end though, I find my thoughts about the device completely changed. Even taking into account the near term Android roadmap, Galaxy S 2 is the Android smartphone I’d absolutely buy today."

Basically, until new technology comes out, this is the king of the hill. Maybe it'll be in the nexus prime?

I just got finished with the anandtech review of the international version which was great. The only part that was a bit demoralizing was the audio section and the knocks against the quality there vs the previous galaxy s wolfson DAC... but maybe the sprint version will get a tweaked yamaha dac or a better one?

hope springs eternal. Still getting it no matter what, but I would prefer better sound quality, phones are the EVERYthing device now, including personal music player when I go jogging or whatnot, better sound is NEEDED and WANTED.
