Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip just flash that in recovery and you will have a rooted stock rom:
1.download and move the su file to the root of your sd card that means not in any folder. it just needs to be on your card.
2.go into recovery (power off, make sure fastboot is unabled, and then press and hold power+vol down)
3.select flash zip from sdcard
4.navigate to your su file by using the vol up and down button and select it with the power button.
5.once done, reboot. now you have a rooted stock rom:D

When I went into recovery to try and use the SU file, it said that file was bad. Is there another download that I can use to root the Stock OS?

when i got step 2 How to get Recovery

None of them work, so i tried "android flasher method"

and then an error came up "error your phone requires an eng bootloader"

here's the log from the application

I honestly dont know what the whole "eng bootloader" is but can I assume you did the htcdev unlock bootloader thing and now you are at "install recovery" correct?

Sorry for my delay in replies, I'm working at the same time (hope boss dont see me:p).
Anyway, relocked huh? Have not heard of that one. Maybe someone else will help out but perhaps run the htcdev again...?

"RELOCKED" means you are not "UNLOCKED", which is what you need to be to flash a recovery.

I believe you did the last step on the HTCDev site, which is in fact NOT intended as a step in the unlocking process. You actually need to do the last page of steps again, starting here. Don't do the "fastboot oem lock" command (Step 14), as that's only for people that want to re-lock their phones after unlocking (not what you want to do).

Once your phone is "UNLOCKED", you can proceed with flashing a recovery.

Yeah, unfortunately you did all the steps to unlock it and THEN you relocked it back up :eek: Its easy enough to undo this as captn described above.

TACO ROOT requires the phone to be completely stock so I don't believe it will work with an unlocked/relocked bootloader.

I was able to download the file, but unfortunately I went the other route and installed the mikG ROM, which is awesome, but how do I put the old rom back? I am sure there is a thread about it, but its difficult at times to search for the answers, if you can help that would be awesome.

did you make a nandroid backup before flashing mikg? if so you can restore it. if not then you will need to flash a rooted stock rom or flash another rom.

just remember that nandroid backups are your friend. id you do not know what a nandroid backup is or how to do one then please read this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. skip the rooting section and go to the nandroid backup and recovery sections.

I'd like to try out other rom, but I want to see what the rooted stock version has to offer. Then I can compare to the other roms. Let me know where I can find some good roms.

/sdcard/flash_image: No such file or directory

I've been at it for many hours...still the same result. I've tried everything...YES: file_image is in no folders on the sdcard. Also, I tried this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243

Could it be because I'm running Windows 7 64-bit? I don't know what's going on, and I'm so close!

Well, I didnt use taco root method but I can tell you, type exactly as shown, even the spacing between everything...when I was using Capt. Throwback method, I missed 1 space and it wouldn't work...I probably spent 1-1/2 hrs not knowing what I was doing wrong...
Just thought I'd throw that out there....spacing was my issue:)
 
Yep, extracted flash_image.zip with WinRAR and placed flash_image in the sdcard, and NOT in any folders.

Followed Steps 1 - 11 successfully with no errors. And just in case, went through 7 - 11 again AFTER uninstalling only the HTC Sync program and leaving the drivers, etc., still installed. I still get "No such file or directory".

Funny thing is that when I do adb shell, cd /sdcard/, ls, nothing comes up, so I was thinking I'm getting sdcard read errors. I tried the fix in the link that I posted in my OP, and I still get nothing.

Well, I'm not certain what's going on but I'll throw this idea at ya.
Maybe re download that zip file (perhaps the one you're using got corrupted?)
extract the flash_image again from the new downloaded zip and use that one.
