*Rezound ICS OTA is live Thread*

I might have gotten the version numbers for the ICS upgrade wrong, but I could almost swear that Josh said 4.0.4 and 4.0.5. Yesterday, I had dug a four and a half foot deep hole that was too small for me to get into, and had to dig it from the surface. Killed my lower back, and by the time I talked to Josh, I was wasted on strong narcotic painkillers. ;) Lots of them. :D So I could have easily gotten confused about the version numbers.

As for disabling the apps, Josh said that the earlier upgrade, 4.0.4 or whatever it was, had the ability to hide the apps, but not remove them completely. He assumed that the newer one, 4.0.5 or whatever, would be able to do the same, but wasn't sure.

You can do that in 4.0.3 and I believe ANY Ice Cream Sandwich build. I just disabled my bloatware, which also hides them from Play Store updates. :D

Probably true about the Dev Options. The big question is will the pull the abilty to disable apps.

FWIW

I will wait to compare the OTA with my 3.14.605.10 leak. If they take away anything, I might deny the upgrade. Once you have the OTA, you will not be able to revert to an older build number leak without root, which is why I installed the leak in the first place. Now that I have it, I will keep a copy for myself as a backup, in case I should ever need a replacement Rezound. But by then I may wish to flash a custom ROM anyway.

Flashed RUU Leak, Unlocked, Installed CleanROM 4.5 Pro, and then went S-off. No more games with Verizon, and I couldn't be happier!

So with taking those pills, Your sure you talked to Josh..just wondering..lol

The only reason I ever rooted my Eris was because it was EASY. With this one, I plan on waiting until the warranty runs out (in case I brick it, not because I believe rooting is against warranty, which it isn't) and even then, I may not root it at all. But it would be very nice to have an unlocked recovery and custom bootloader, and COMPLETELY ridding myself of bloat would be fantastic. I bought the phone in December, so that may happen sooner than never.

Now, back to the speculations, which this thread is all about. My theory is that the OTA will indeed be higher than the 3.14.605.10 build of 4.0.3, and that it will remove the dev options. Anything higher than Version 4.0.3 might even disable a few more features, such as the Universal Search (thank you, iJerks, for that bit of d-baggery) and maybe even that other thing HTC was ordered to stop doing... the thing with the tapping on phone numbers and addresses and such in emails or whatever... THAT @$$hattery.

Kind of odd, they mention that the RAZR series was getting the ICS update AND global capability, but they only mention ICS for the Rezound. Did they shelve that on the Rezound?

Is the Rezound hardware "globally capable"? Just because it has a SIM card doesn't make it universal. But I'm only asking because I don't know, not because I'm trying to be a dick.

Pretty sure. LOL

I remember that we rambled on about other stuff too. It was a pretty interesting conversation and he was very obviously well informed and intelligent. FWIW, we discussed the HTC Rhyme (my wife has one), and whether or not it would likely get the ICS upgrade that was mentioned by VZW or HTC. No idea, he said, but didn't think it to be too likely. He also had never seen the mention of it that was in the original VZW press release that named the phones to get ICS

Yeah, awhile back there was a story about this and they mentioned that the Razr, Maxx, & Rezound were all going to get an update to make them global. I know if you do the *#*#4636#*#* or use the PhoneInfo app is takes you to the test section. When you go to the phone section, there was a drop down box that allowed to select which band you wanted to use.

That was how we were able to select CDMA auto for 3G or EVDO+LTE for 4G. But besides those to, there was also a selection for WCDMA. I know because the issue of Rezounds doing the boot loop was caused by the phone selecting WCDMA on it's own & since it couldn't find a network, it started bootlooping.

To fix it you had to get into the test section and put it back on Verizon's bands. Hard to do when the dialer lagged while starting up and I only had about 15 seconds before it rebooted.

Supposedly Verizon was going to disable the test section with the ICS update. Fine if they also eliminated the ability for it go to WCDMA by itself, otherwise you'd be screwed. When I had the issue the first time (before I found out about the test section) I was advised to do a factory reset, and it still didn't help. So hopefully they fixed the issue since they have taken away the only fix the end user can do to right it.

Huh. My signal is so bad at the house, I'm surprised that I haven't had any bootlooping issues in the almost nine months I've had it. We need a wireless extender to run through the crappy DSL connection just to use the phone at all. But in town, where I work, 3G and 4G work just fine... provided that I am not on the wrong side of the building, when it tries switching back and forth between the two, even with five bars.

A lot of good information, thank you.

Soooo, it's July 27th and no OTA update. Is it safe to assume that they wouldn't release anything over the weekend? And if we still believe their end of July deadline, does that mean we are looking at Monday or Tuesday? Whoever said it would be on July 31st at 11:59:59pm may just be right.

You guys know ICS has been publicly announced right? it is on the ota server, will be out any moment for soak, and on all devices by August 3rd.

Hit up Verizon forums for the rest, would post, but I'm at works.

this is on the verizon forum, but it is not coming from VZW...not sure who wrote it:

That was posted thursday around noon, moments later the Verizon website for the rezound updated with an ICS software update coming soon post with pdfs with ICS screens of the update process.

I'm also on a network extender, but low signal isn't the issue, no signal is. When it sets itself to WCDMA, there isn't a tower anywhere near here that runs on that. While bad signal might be - 100dBm, this would be - 125dBm or like there was no tower for 200 miles. Normally you'd think you'd get a no service indication, but this just sends it into a tizzy. Trust me, it sucks when it happens.

Unrelated... Chrome Experiments is now available in mobile for Chrome for Android. I'm not sure if the Rezound hardware is the issue, or if It's Chrome for Android, or the current ICS I'm using, but it CRASHED my phone big time. Any thoughts about this, and weather or not it will be fixed in the OTA? The RAZRs with the OTA update don't seem to be having this problem.

SUCH a pain to post anything on a phone... On my pc now, here is what I have seen. All of this happened within an hour or so.

Verizon Leaked Document Says HTC Rezound to Get Android 4.0 ICS Update | The Droid Guy

This is the verizon thing. It may be old, as someone pointed out, but someone on the vzw forums took it differently....

Software Update: HTC Rezound™ - Coming Soon!

I tried to find the ICS screens on the verizon website, but I just can't find the link on the forums anymore. There are about 10 ICS threads and they all got spammed with whiners complaining how even though it is slated to come out, it wont.

EDIT: FOUND IT! Here is the post, (scroll all the way down),
https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/771085?start=140&tstart=0

Here is the source I'm guessing for that news post on the verizon forums.

My guess is sunday at 12 Midnight EST, and it will start rolling out that week.

Something in the top pic in the first link has me puzzled. It says available for push on 7/29 and available for pull on 6/1. The date of 6/1 is what has me confused.

Yeah...just noticed they were changed also. Looks like it might have been a typo. The dates definitely seem to fall in line with the latest rumors though....which makes me happy...lol.
