Here's my next riddle:
I am hunting a bear. I follow it south for an hour, then I follow it west for an hour, and then I follow it north for an hour. As I take aim, I'm standing where I first started. What kind of bear am I hunting?

Even though I knew the answer, I jogged out of my memory, I don't really understand it. How does the riddle tell you it's a polar bear?

Most of the time, if you walk south-west-north, you've made a square U-turn. Unless, of course, you're not on a plane (flat surface), but on the surface of a sphere and you just happen to start exactly on the north pole. As long as you walk an equal amount south and north, it doesn't matter how much you walk sideways in between.
