I'll let someone else answer it, I learned this one in the 3rd grade (back in the 70s, for anyone paying attention)....

Where’s The Dollar

As luck would have it, three traveling salesmen happened upon the same inn for a night’s lodging. The inn keeper was busy watching her favorite television show and sent her husband in her stay to accommodate the guests. He charged the salesman ten dollars each for a nights lodging. He proudly returned to his wife and gave her the thirty dollars he had charged. She said “you old fool, you have over charged our guests”. She gave her husband five dollars to refund to the three salesmen. Not certain how to equally disperse the refunding, the husband gave each salesman back a dollar, and put the remaining two dollars in his pocket. He smiled to himself thinking his wife would never know. Now, with refund, each of the three salesman paid nine dollars for their stay which is twenty seven dollars and the two dollars the husband kept makes twenty nine dollars. Where is the missing dollar?

"He who has it doesn't tell it. He who takes it doesn't know it. He who knows it doesn't want it."

a disease? this is an awesome thread!

The trick is in the method of counting the money.
The travellers have paid $30 minus the $3 refunded, hence, that makes it $27.
$27 minus the $2 taken by the innkeeper makes it $25, which is the cost of one room ;).

You have to subtract the $2 not add it, thats where the missing dollar disappears...

I guess that is not the answer either. What about a mop?

Nope but very good thinking so far!

So far so good ;)

Keep it up! :)

I apologize if it takes me a while to respond, I am on the other side of the world so different time zones lol :D
