Root roaming mode

Quick question,

Cm7 has the option of choosing Sprint only, affiliated only, and automatic as roaming modes. Due to some of the bugs I had with cm7 I went with the rainy day sense rom. Is there any hack or app around that would let me have the same kind of control that cm7 has?

roam control in market. 4 bucks. don't know how well it works.

tried the force roam in latest version of tommy tomatoe rom. I can't get any data connection with it. Have it running in a boot manager slot, don't know if that makes any difference in it's behavior.

Tried it today it doesn't do anything on my phone. Maybe because im not running stock kernel or rom?

do you have a data connection with it?

Come to think of it, I do have a data connection but I'm not sure if it's on VZW or Sprint. The times I use it, I either have wifi available, or the VZW service is also hit and miss (just a bit stronger than Sprint). My wife is on VZW, and those times she has a hard time getting data also. I think you do gotta make sure you enable data roaming in the usual Sense settings.

I keep hearing that vz has better signal and stuff, just wanted to see if it would give me faster 3g down.

Tried the app, or whatever, in the tommy tomatoe rom. I got a voice signal, but no data connection whatsover. Is there something else I needed to turn on in the rom to make it work?

You're saying you're using Roam Control with the EVO 4G without problems? Are you using the newest version? In my research, RC hasn't worked with the EVO since v1.3 or something.

Mine's version 1.6, and it does indeed work. I just switched it to "roam only", my signal dropped dead, then came back on as 3g. Just to test, I tried dialing out and was prompted to dial area code first by Alltel's(VZW) message/recording prompt. I'm running an AOSP ROM though, not sure if that matters.

I'm still not 100% sure about data. I have good Sprint signal here, but when I switched RC to "roam only", I got the warning in the notification bar that my data connection was lost since I had data roaming disabled. I enabled data roaming, and I'm typing this post from it, but I still don't have a 100% sure way to verify I'm on VZW/Alltell data (I'm assuming I am).

Actually, that gave me an idea. I went to speedtest.net, the site not the app, with Dolphin HD in desktop mode, and ran a test. It showed Sprint PCS as the network. I then enabled RC and data roaming, then browsed to the site for another test and it still came back up Sprint PCS. So now I'm not so sure about the data.

You shouldn't need to enable anything in the ROM other than super user permissions for RC and of course data roaming.

My understanding (Which does not include RC app) is that unless your phone will not recieve a signal from the native then and only then will it go to roam. Back when I was using a BB I looked this info up because signal around here really sucked. Also Usually Not always Data will be lost first but if you still have voice data will not roam until phone gets no signal. Of course this research was done a couple of years ago so I'm not sure how it has changed if any.

Now that Verizon has the 2gig cap not sure how that will affect a roaming user.
