Its always interesting to see different screen shots of the pattern/strategy people use.

I am really liking the new version of Robo Defense but I had a few questions for the experts.

I am on level 370 doing A003 right now and try to jump 10 at a time. Most of my upgrades are in the mid 30's except cash with is 44 I believe. but that now costs 55million to upgrade and at this level it takes a few wins for me to get that.

Questions:
1) Are any of the new upgrades worth using like slow flame towers, upgraded gun towers that pierce armor, extended range AA guns or upgraded mortor that does splash damage? (The cheap upgrade for SAMs seems like a no brainer)

2) Is the best way to build up points just pushing the levels like I am doing? Even though it takes a couple wins just to advance one upgrade? Like now I am finishing level 370 and have lost 9 lives with 45 left. So not perfect, but pretty good.

3) That bonus now doubled but it doesn't seem to give you much. Still having leftover cash and lives seems to be the best thing right? I finished all achievements so the bonus is high but it doesn't seem to matter much.

4) Any thoughts on which is better to do, upgrade more rockets to doubles or fewer to triples?

Thanks!

How does scoring work anyway?

Only on Lvl34 or something and averaging 700,000 - 1.1m per level.
No matter what my lives left, money etc is, I always get roughly the same and never end up with much more than 500,000 points before everything is added up.

Did at one point have a bonus of 172 during the game, exited the game and continued 1 minute later and my bonus dropped to 66! Why?

Hate jeeps. Some of them are so fast that nothing touches them, especially in the early levels where your weapons just don't seem to be killing anything.

Same with helicoptors. Generally lose up to 3 lives as soon as they appear around level X-15 as I can't get enough to build AA defenses in time and if I do, one missile launcher generally isn't enough (tried the guns and wasn't aware of them even firing!)
Have occasional games though where there is no aircraft activity until a third or so into the game which gives me a bettr chance to increase my defenses.

Not sure why the upgrades say things like "increase starting cash by $90" when I've no idea what the starting cash actually was. Would be nicer if it just said "starting cash $120" or whatever.

I know it is not much of a difference at the low levels, but the best bonuses are when you lose zero lives on a game (adds a perfect game bonus on tops of the other ones) also try to do this pattern across most of the "fly zone"

sttsttsttstt
s=slow
t=turret
then when you have money replace with aa's if you are playing on difficulties you can win perfect games on, then 6 turrets spaced like that with slows upgraded at least one time each and 3 teleports (minimum, I normally start with 3 and add a 4th), plus 3/4 rockets spaced out along the route will stop the air raids in the early levels, now at level 34 you don;t have that kind of money, so do the slows and turrets and 3/4 rockets spaced out (put one above or below each slow ASAP) should stop them, get 1 teleport in if you can and have that built up by level 14/15 and you should make it.

Normally on the lower cash games (ie the demo version or when just starting out) I try to do a setup like this to get started

t t t
--> s r t s t t s t t s t t s tp -->
t t r r r
t s
t
t s t t

that makes them come in and go down, then back up, then walk along the turrets and slows then over the tp to the exit, I do the slows and rockets as soon as possible and fill in the horizontal turrets as soon as I can, that way the early air raids don't get past your defenses

sorry I did not count the spacing (I am half a sleep as it nears 2am) the exact numbers may be off, I have posted several maps on this forum if you go back to previous pages, and the older ones are from when I was playing the 50 - 125 difficulty levels. They are laid out on a grid so the spacing is correct, hope this helps. Oh and I think the initial money is $25, you could always take what it says the bonus is and subtract ti from what you have at the beginning of the game!! but I agree it is confusing. I also believe every +1 gives $5 and is the most important thing to increase early on, as being able to buy that first rocket asap is a lot more important than whether or not your turrets (which I think do 1 point damage initially) has an extra 10% added to it... oh and one note on that, 5 turrets will kill more enemies than 1 rock, simply because of rate of fire, so while you can sell off and replace your turrets in the end game, do not forget the power of the turrets early on!

Those turrets seem to kill nothing for me. Even in the first 5 stages of level 50, I can have the most basic men just strolling through everything without being touched.

Find the killing of jeeps a bit inconsistent.
Had a few waves yesterday or say 20. First wave passes through everything I have without a single kill and that's with slow towers, and forcing them around corners etc. Then the next wave moving at the same speed and the same number of jeeps gets totally decimated before they get half way across the map.

Do think AA missiles are too expensive. $20 for a rocket tower, then

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on Androidforums and the only reason I created an account is this game called Robo Defense which is now the one and only game Android game for me. I've been looking for a forum to discuss strategies and this looks like a good one. :D

First, some stats: My current upgrades: Lvl 30 for Stronger Explosives, Faster Rocket Reload, Faster Antiair Reload; Lvl 29 Slowdown; Lvl 41 Health; Lvl 37 Starting Cash; Lvl 24 Stronger Bullets; all single upgrades unlocked. Although I've upgraded lots of other things, these are the only ones that really matter. Stronger Bullets are only needed for early deployment. 77 out of 83 achievements so far. I'm missing Courtyard 25/25, Ultra Game and the last 4 for Survival Mode.

I've killed the Titan many times - he always appears in Wave 79 if you have perfect health. I'm now farming Lvl 150 Basic for about 6 million+ per game, with perfect game bonus unless I mess it up. Ruins and Factory are harder so I don't farm them. I can only get perfect games half the time on Lvl 100 for these maps and Lvl 50 for Courtyard, depending on my luck.

I drew up my basic map layout in the attachment (RDbasic.jpg), hope you can see it. R=rocket; S=slow; G=gun; A=antiair rockets; T=teleport; M=mine. All are fully upgraded except Gs which are just acting as maze walls. The ones with a full-stop after the letter aren't really necessary and I usually save the money. One tip - if Wave 100 has little air troops, then sell off all your As for extra reward. If there's air then just try to sell what you can without losing perfect health. Another tip - set up two Ts before Wave 15 and put a S before the first T so you have more time to recharge the T.

Why this map works for me: (1) overlapping fields of R fire gets most of the land troops; and (2) the A fire gets the air except for really bad air waves where you need to micro the T. If any air gets true then keep recharging your Ts and hope you stop them all. Have some extra Rs near the end to upgrade to As if you think the air wave is too strong.

I've tried different setups using upgraded guns, artillery, flame etc but none of them worked as well.

I would be happy to hear any suggestions on how to improve this. Thanks.

I'm on level79 at present and they just keep walking straight through everything I have. The amount of times a slow moving man strolls through a whole load of rockets, slow towers and guns in the first few levels is amazing!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I know this is not the same with a lot of forums, but this particular one has great history. all new players of robo defense should really start on page one and read this entire thread. It has been followed by some of the same people since the thread started, and shows how some of us "evolved" as we moved from sub 100 level range on up to 4000 and above difficulty (just hit 1500 10 minutes ago myself). we have explained all of the issues we have had, how to make the most money per level, even shared our maps! All you have to do is go back to page one and spend 20 mins to 2 hours (depending on how you read and if you look over all the maps or glance at them) to survive a measly 7 pages of posts (some really long posts, mostly mine, because I talk too much and it is reflected in my typing as well...)

We've covered:
tips
titan
tricks
easy levels
hard levels
achievements
rewards
mapping techniques
bugs
cheating
and even alternate games that are close but not as good as robo defense,

try empire defense if you prefer medieval, and I think they actually have a copyright violation against robo defense...

or grave defense if you prefer random, but predetermined patterns for enemy movement; however you have to be willing to constantly sell towers to have the cash to build somewhere else on the map or you will fail...

then there is armored defense which allows you to build "tracks" to place one of the towers on and they move back and forth across them, this is a good variation, and I did purchase it, although it was about $1.5 more than I thought it was worth and not as much fun as robo defense

also give crystallight a shot, for an interesting concept on defense games, I bought it, but it is different, has a lot of neat options I would like to see some of in robo defense

try bubble defense for a "lighter" defense type of game, still good fun, version 2 adds a roaming hot air balloon the flies around shooting the enemies!

I've also played spira/wave/void defence (yes with a "c") if you want to see some extremely hard yet odd variations on the defense game type. I also bought these, but this was back when I first got an android device and since learned that I did not get any additional enjoyment out of the mysterious "golden tower" as it just cost too much to afford while trying to survive! money is VERY tight in this game.

I've looked at others but have not found one (that offers a free version to test) that compares to the ones listed above. And Robo defense is the only one I keep coming back to play...

Looks close to what I am using right now, couple of suggestions, stronger explosisves (reward) also affects Mortars, the mortar/artillery also gets expanded radius of +1 per upgrade from a standard rocket (rocket has a radius of 3, mortar 4, artillery 5) so try to make a design shaped more like a mirror image of an "@" and put artillery in the center. at my level I use 2 mortars, 3 SAMs and turrets. the only slows I use are in the path of the air units and I only use 2 (until your level gets higher, you might need more units than this, I have a relatively high rocket/artillery reload rate.

read above, try using mortar, artillery and a "@" or spiral pattern around the mortar/artillery. When I was playing the HD beta (lower level difficulty but almost no upgrades) I used 5 or 6 artillery with 5 or 6 SAMs and maxed rockets to survive.

I've been trying various techniques mentioned here but just can't win.
On Level 80 now and the amount of times I lose 20-30 lives in the first 34 stages is amazing! They just stroll through everything. Even tried going back to say Level 50 and getting more money from that but when a rocket upgrade costs $1.98m and I'm getting less than that after losing one life due to some jeep being immortal, it's not helping. Would be useful if the $$$ carried across as well as I'm losing loads from not being able to afford anything other than "flame tower duration" and I never use these.

Consistency would be good.
Sometimes I get one slow moving helicopter that goes straight across all my air defenses and slow towers and makes it through without a scratch.
Next time there are 3-4 helicoptors and they're wiped out in seconds with the same weapons.
I've had 20 maxed out air missiles before and still had 8 out of ??? jets getting through to the other side.

Just had one game on Level 51 where 3 jeeps, that if they were any slower would have been stationary, casually strolled through around 40 defensive turrets including ones I was frantically building to try and stop them and divert them closer to rockets.

I call BS. There is just no way you have read all seven pages and still have problems! How about you read them again....sloooowly ;)

Have read them. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, although I did scrape through level80 just now with 8 lives left and got $1.8m for it which wasn't enough to upgrade my rocket power or cash at the start.

Is the "negative" glitch gone in the newest version? I have my starting cash to level 46 trying to get it to go "negative" and my next upgrade costs $91.5 million so it will take me a while. Wanted to see when it would turn over.

At higher levels you gonna play 10+ levels before having enough $$$ to upgrade.

Its been told here (on these 7 pages) on how to increase max amount of $$$ per game and best strategy maps. All info is here...i'm not lying ;)

Think my major problem is that I orignally bought the mine tower rather than the teleport tower.

Added: Got the teleport tower now. Shame it can't be placed anywhere other than on the route for aircraft or am I missing something? Did want it for jeeps but they will just drive around it.

Met the Titan too on 90-87 or something like that. Had full health and he didn't last that long.

Any way of stopping my Desire turning off? After a couple of minutes of letting the game run on FF without touching the phone, it dims the screen and shortly afterwards goes into standby.
Most other games prevent this.

I tried the mine tower in the demo and did not get it, I thought it was a waste, so in the full game I bought it only after I had everything else! I understand now, since the new achievement was added for chaining them. but still don't use them...

you have to "make" the enemy go where you want them, if you have been looking at any of the maps anyone has posted on this thread, you will see that there is only 1 square for each enemy to move through, this makes them go where you want and step on whatever you put in their way.

just sticking a teleport out in the map does not make them go over it. learning this will probably solve any issues you have killng the jeeps too. As for the "super" helicopters, you need a slow tower ever 3 squares in the flight path, not one above, not one below, in the path. that means at least 4 (if you are putting teleports in front of the exit, and 5 if you are not) and they ALL have to be max upgraded. until you get the expanded range for anti-air, or get enough upgrades to stop using anti-air, put turrets between every single slow tower (except where your ground unit trails pass through) and upgrade them to AA guns. then line that path with rockets, upgrade most to SAMs, and nothing will fly through there. if you are still having issues, back down 10 or 20 levels. until I hit the negative numbers issue, I was playing EVERY difficulty level 3 or 4 times, until I got enough cash to make at least one upgrade (a useful one, not flame tower duration garbage, although I spent a lot on that too!), if not 3 upgrades before I increased the difficulty, and then I was only going up 1 level at a time. If I lost more than 1 life on a stage, I would quit the game and back down to the previous difficulty so I could get the perfect game bonus (you get your points even when you quit the game, just no win/completion bonus.

This is a game that will eat more time than any Final Fantasy/Doom/Sims/WoW/whatever game you have ever played (if you are that type), there is no rush, no finish, no end. just keep on keeping on, trying to get better at playing, try to get better stats, then realize you've gone to far, and try to get to higher levels to compensate for your extra high stats, so you can make the game hard again. once you get there you will start the process all over again, making the game too easy again, then either give up, or keep trying to find a happy medium.

So calm down, slow down, take your time and enjoy the ride.

Xenole, what levels are your weapons at? Level 80 should be easily winnable with level 5 or so on everything.

And I guess I have a different idea of what a fun challenge is on this game. I am currently at level 14 on all my weapons. I've unlocked all the little extras that came in the latest update. I think I'll clear the level 290 game that I'm currently playing, but it will take a while to find out. I never get to fast forward, and the screen requires my constant attention. I'm looking for the "wall." How far will I be able to progress through the game without upgrading weapon base levels any farther?

This minimalist upgrade path will eventually lead you to the negative cash issue which you will then get very pissed off at, because you will need to spend money on upgrades but not only will you not have any, but you will be in debt to the game for the next 20-200 games and will not be able to progress the difficulty during this time without cheating.

This brings the question, is it cheating to fix a known issue? and can you stop at just fixing that one issue?

I bought the full version a while back on my Motorola Cliq and then bought a Cliq 2 and was able to install it just fine on the Cliq 2. I had wiped my Cliq 1 and was setting it up for my wife and went to install the full version of Robo Defense from the market and could not find it. Only "trainers" and "helpers". Even web searches in the browser came up empty. There is a market page in the Google results for the game, but I get a page not found error when I click on it. Any ideas where I can still get a version of the full game for Android 1.5?

Thanks!
