Root [ROM][4.0.4][BETA] CM9 for Virgin Mobile and Sprint 10/3/2013

On the whole I'd call this a Beta versus an Alpha its super stable and aside from the signal, camera( which is a kernel/driver issue likely) and the NFC which was a CM9 issue that effected tons of devices (google and you'll see what I mean). When I think "Alpha" I think it boots and maybe touch and sensors work lol. The dev deserves mad props for this initial release. Well done.

:). I'm going to start aokp today. I had a hard drive failure and unfortunately it was the drive with my Linux install so everything on that drive is gone but it was replaced with a bigger and faster drive so I will be able to work on cm and aokp at the same time and maybe icecoldsandwich .

No, I've had 1X on every custom rom and throm we have. This is the first time I've had full evdo. Didn't mean to get off topic just was excited to have 3G lol. I also backed up the apns and apnconfig.xml so when my kid gets home from school I'm going to reflash CM9 and change them out for curiosities sake.

Hmmm, I've had Evdo on every stock custom Rom, just not CM as I think most can relate. Sorry bout it not working until now for you but, Congrats. Let me know how the apnconfig thing goes.

Hey bob, What exactly do you mean by "Going into setup", could you be so kind as to explain it further to a total "noob" please lol...so I can try it for myself, I love this Rom & would love to be on 3G with it
Thanks in advance

Basically, I followed these steps (you might want to do it while using the stock rom, to ensure you have the activate app):

1. Turn the phone on.
2. Dial ##847446#.
3. Now, you are on the programming menu.
4. You will see: 1)Activate Phone, 2)View, 3)Edit and 4)Done.
5. Select Edit.
6. You will now see MDN and you may see your phone number at the bottom.
7. Delete your number and enter the number 1 ten times. Press ok.
8. You should see now MSID and some numbers at the bottom. Delete them
all.
9. And now enter the number 1 ten times again. Press Ok.
10. You will be back on the programming menu.
11. Scroll down and Select "Done". The phone will turn off and on by
itself.

Once the phone is back on, repeat the same process, but this time just chose
Active Phone.

BTW: that isn't specific this this ROM. I had determined that my phone was NEVER going into 3G by using the 2G/3G Status Bar Lite app. This was true no matter what ROM I used. however, if you are getting 3G on the stock ROM, then you may have a different issue.

Oh no!

I haven't had time to tinker around for a bit, finals are killing my free time. That and the ridiculous amounts of alcohol I've been consuming. I love being 21.

Glad to hear you're up and running again. Your CM build is so close lol. Once the camera/signal issue is resolved this could be stamped "Stable" and be a daily driver imo. Have you considered Paranoid Android? its what I run on my Nexus 4. Fantastic rom. Look forward to your future works. On a side note why hasn't anyone built a CM7 rom? We have GB source and there's a ton of ics/jb mods for CM7.2.

Already tried it's just that the camera and wifi didn't work.

Does Osiris have any ideas about the camera or data issues? Just wondering
They are working on multiple devices so they really didn't get into working with the elite just yet but there is one trying to compile jb for the elite but I don't know how that's going.

Okay so this is like a "Factory reset if I wasn't rooted",...Since I'm already on CM9 this wouldn't be an option for me I guess!!
BTW Thanks for responding

No... well, at least for me... this issue had to do with my activation and the network. It didn't matter what ROM I was on I wasn't getting 3G on ANY rom prior to doing this.

Yes... if your issue is 100% ROM specific, then doing this probably won't change anything.

You're only talking about that being effective on stock customs I'm assuming

No... see my previous message right before this one. I only say, do it on stock rom because I know those steps can be followed there. If you install the 2G/3G status bar lite app on your stock ROM and you are getting 3G data... then this isn't going to help.

Figured that by now, thanks my friend

Hey guys, I've running this ROM since the first alpha went out. Currently I'm using the 4/24 build with the 4/13 kernel and I can safely say it runs way more smoothly than using the 4/24 build's kernel when clocked at 1.6GHz (tested Ikaruga stage 1 with it and had negligible lag).

I noticed an issue though when trying to connect to wifi networks outside my home network: I couldn't scan for or connect to any networks. Turning wifi off then on again resolved the issue, but I thought I'd bring attention to it since I don't think it's been mentioned before. If it makes any difference, my phone is setup with my home network to be assigned a static IP, which might be why I never noticed the issue there.

Sorry if its already been brought up, but I think I found a solution to the instability problems with the increased clock in the newest update. Whoever built in the new clockrate info left out the 400, 500, and 600 MHz settings, so the governors are having to jump 400 MHz to not find the setting they need that's halfway in between. Easiest solution is to just lock your minimum to 768 MHz if you're willing to take the slight battery hit. Otherwise, I think there are CPU apps where you can have it use clock rates not in the kernel.

Sorry about this, the app i was thinking of (CPU Tuner) does NOT have this feature. it allows you to set it to only accept certain frequencies, but if they aren't in the kernel you're SOL. If i had the source, i could edit them back in, but i am sadly not on the distro list for it.

well i finally worked out the ringtone issue i was having. i now have a normal ringtone instead of that damn chirp. i love this ROM.

Sorry if I sound newbish, but how do you go about this?
There should be a way to do it on the phone, but the way i know will work is if you take the two zips and pull the kernel from one and drop it into the other one. I'm pretty sure that we have guides up about how to edit the .zips.

hmm... stuff like this makes me wonder..... are there config files in it? if so, we could probably edit the clockrates without recompiling the entire kernel.
You need to compile the kernel from source. Since everyone thinks it has something to do the clocks ill revert back to the old one.
