Root [ROM][4.0.4][BETA] CM9 for Virgin Mobile and Sprint 10/3/2013

35% cell standby means that's 35% of the drain during this off charger time its significant. Cell standby should never be in double digit %'s. Its been a long time android battery killer. There's a lot of fixes out there right now the most popular involves editing the power_profile.xml. however I'm not going to do the edit till the 1x/3G issue is resolved as that may solve that part

The power profile isn't accurate to begin with. Since we didn't have values to go on, I had to use some values from similar phones.

I tend to not trust the native battery graph, doesn't tell much. on my optimus v it always said 50% cell standby and 50% phone idle, and i would get 96 hours of battery life out of it.

best way to go about it is to use betterbatterystats and enable root mode to analyze partial wakelocks, kernel wakelocks, and alarms.

no drain with account enabled, i'll continue throwing in a few apps at a time and see if i can get anything to show up.

96 hours? well I've barely got 9 hours out of any of the many android devices I've owned since the G1 lol... but i confess I'm a power user. I'm assuming that's a lot of standby/inactive time? Mobile data, location, Bluetooth, wifi and sync off?

Firstly, I just wanted to say thanks for all of your hard work. I have been excited about this for a while now.
I've downloaded the latest build. Wiped the cache and installed and it just boots to the LG logo and doesn't proceed further.
I've re-downloaded and checked the checksum, and it still gets stuck at booting.
Is there some silly thing I'm forgetting?

The little OV was / is a great phone. My wife still uses hers. Going to get her the F3 very soon.
Is your OE phone when they first came out?
My phone was one of the first ones. It would not last 8-10hrs. Always switching between 1G and 3G,overheating, and flat out killing battery life. Place your finger around the camera lens and see if it's pretty warm there. That's what mine would do.
I had to run juice defender and then I would get great battery life. after 18 hrs would still be above 50%-60%. No more heat around the camera lens.

Sold my OE last night, so not sure how much I'll look in on the forum anymore.
Extremely happy with the Optimus F3.... it just works correctly.

Scratch that. I re-downloaded, and added an extra step of wiping all things and fixing permission duplicatively, and that fixed the problem.

So far I'm digging this!

I just got it for my son back in April. Its not even my device just thought I'd contribute to it since the Nexus 4 forums were filled with mods and things beyond my level to contribute. He's since upgraded to the Reverb but I just mailed one of the OEs to another developer Wednesday and have a spare with no service to theme and mod on. The F3 looks promising but I've read the boot loader is locked? That's a no go for me lol. Even if they bootstrap the recovery its still limited. But its a decent out of the box device. Anyway after pulling the framework apart and comparing stock power_profile.xml to our CM9 I've absolutely no doubt that after comparing the radio and GPS values that this is a very big part of the battery issue. If not the primary issue. I've pmd Phenom and let him know.

Phenom.... found a glitch. I'm pretty sure it worked fine in the last build but when I hit the mute button during a call, it doesn't mute lol. Found this out the hard way lol.

Regarding my Stereo Bluetooth causing WiFi to shutdown... it must have been some junk left over from Sleipnir. I did a complete wipe (data, cache and Dalvik) before flashing the ROM and gapps, and tested my issue with just Google Music in stream, and WiFi held. I did a restore of my 'data', and the issue came back. So, cleaned it out, and started new with most my apps, no issue with the WiFi. I haven't loaded Juice Defender yet, and I hope that isn't the culprit.

this might have been covered elsewhere in the thread but is there a way to uninstall stock apps? like i want to get rid of superuser because i prefer supersu but the only option is disable and that conflicts when trying to install super su...

You can get SuperSu to un install it for you. I was in the app and I believe I went to a certain tab and SuperSu told me there was another Super app and it gave me the option to uninstall it. I did and its gone.

By the way Rom is alot smoother now. Ram usage is still really high, though. Camera is working fine, too. Status bar froze again though but I ran the notfication restarted alot and its working again.

Anyone seeing this issue too? I may just need to do a clean flash.

it said it recognized another superuser program during installation? it asked me do i want to uninstall the other program and when i said yes installation of supersu failed immediately after.

i'm going to move supersu to internal memory first and see if that makes a difference... i had it on my sd card before.

i'm going to reinsall cm9 and use it all weekend for a prolonged test and spend a bit more time tweaking and see if i can get some more specifics about where the battery drain i was experiencing was coming from and what's up with my data connection.

BackSide and Mirage are amazing ROMs. I got that battery life with mobile and sync on. My hope, if I can ever get Phenom's code to compile, is to experiment with porting some of the tweaks from those ROMs. My favorite was JerryScript had implemented an emergency power save where the phone severely cut back on its usage during the last 5% of the battery.

Where I'm at right now with the battery drain is that after I installed gmail and friendcaster the radio usage and gtalk async both severely elevated. i shut off all sync and it still ran high. running fix_permissions from recovery seemed to temporarily pause the drain, but in the last 8 hours i've gone from 70% to 6% I'm going to try removing gmail and running fix_permissions again. Also, Phenom, fix_permissions seems to be missing from the ROM.

Hey phenomx4, thanks for all your fantastic work on this ROM! A couple minor glitches I'm seeing:

On the profiles screen i.imgur.com/0cNJL8A.png, if I click any of the buttons on the right hand side to modify a profile, the settings app crashes with a "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" error.

The camera works great, except occasionally if I launch it directly from the lock screen (by dragging to the left), it crashes with an "Unable to connect to camera" error.

These are both pretty minor issues that don't really bother me that much. If other people are having the same problems, I'm happy to do troubleshooting/provide log files, if you'll tell me what to do.

Also, I can confirm what other people are saying, that I'm seeing Cell Standby take up a lot of my battery usage: i.imgur.com/Hl0hh7W.png But I don't know if that's abnormal or not. Overall, my battery life seems comparable to what it was with Sleipnir.

Love it! Here are my issues. I can no longer sign in to ESPN Fantasy Football app like I could on gb. It gives me a glitchy looking screen. I also am occasionally experiencing the keyboard not popping up for me to type text into fields on certain web pages. Browser used to always go to mobile sites on gb now when I try to go to ESPN it tries to load the desktop version and is glitchy. Can not install Virgin Mobile SSA and Account apps that I backed up, but I'm not to worried about that just the fantasy football. My league uses ESPN Fantasy app.

Thanks again phenomx4 I'll be donating soon.

Phenom I may be doing something wrong, but I cannot mount any of my external SD cards :(. Only emmc internal card. Any suggestions?

Nevermind..... it finally worked :), but noticing the signal.bars don't light up.blue anymore.... is that a problem?

I confirmed overnight that gmail is at least one of the culprits. After removing it I have 11 hours uptime and at 64%, for 3.3% loss per hour, which is half the drain I had before. From the stats, it looks like the calendar isn't playing well either. Keep in mind I shut off ALL sync yesterday.

Gmail 4.+ is known to have a mem leak and other resource issues. I'm thinking the adjusted values in the power_profile.xml will make the difference. These values dictate the power that power the radio, and GPS and therefore any applications calling on theses resources. Rogue apps are and can be an issue but until the source is squared away those findings are skewed as relates to their actual consumption/resource use. I hope that makes sense to you.
