Root [ROM][4.1.2]AWE Inspired Moonshine White/Ginger V2.9a Final[Works with stock device]

i'm stuck on how to connect my device to it. am i incorrect in assuming my phone must be in usb debug mode? i'm not sure how to do that w/o booting into android first.

Just boot to recovery by holding volume down while powering on, device is in debug mode by default in recovery:)

oddly when i tried that, an error box for pdanet popped up and said something like htc error -1. but i don't own an htc device, and i'm not sure what pdanet has to do with that windows android commander program. maybe i should just delete pdanet and try windows android commander again?

edit: now another box that says mtp usb device failed and is asking to reinstall the driver. my phone is still in cwm with all this happening :(

anyone know where to get the drivers from? were they in the stock white 2.5 folder?

Just ignore the mtp error, did u try "adb devices" to c if adb recognizes ur device??

under list of attached devices it says " 7eccad0 recovery". i still have the phone plugged into the computer and in cwm. if that listed device is correct then i guess the problem is me not understanding how to use android commander.

in android commander, if i go to device -> info a big box pops up with a bunch of commands and starts loading something. but no idea what it is trying to load. i waited several minutes and nothing happened, just kept loading and loading.

edit: android commander is saying my phone is unrooted. reading through the main topic, starting at post #385 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628138&page=39 i think i need to download and install something called 'adb insecure' first. unfortunately that won't work for me, since i can't get past the registration part :(

is there some other way to delete DSS.apk ?

If you get into a shell type:

su
mount -o remount,rw none /system
busybox rm /system/app/DSS.apk
mount -o remount,ro none /system

This should delete your activation nag and after you reboot.

Sorry for the double post here everyone I hit the wrong button

GravityBox does not play well with the edited status bar because it has its own resources that govern transparency etc. I'm 99% sure gravity box is your issue.
i think you may be right about gravitybox. i did play with the settings in there when i first installed it and probably messed it up.

i uninstalled gravitybox, however it was still messed up and one way to make the status bar work was to install something and get a notification from that (other notification like email didnt make it work).

anyway i currently got it working now (crosses fingers) with transparency working and everything. short of re flashing the rom, i installed another xposed module that alters the status bar (just installed but not touch any setting) and it seemed to undo whatever gravitybox altered.

one thing discovered while trying to get this work, the usb debugging keeps turning on after reboot even if i uncheck it and turn off developer options.

Well that's good. At least your status bar issue is resolved. As for USB debugging I personally would not worry about it. It won't hurt anything to leave it on. If you really want it off though you may try disabling it then disable developer mode entirely then reboot and see if it sticks. There also may be an adb solution to brute force it to off as well. Personally though I have always believed in if it ain't broke don't fix it. ;)

I made the rom persist adb incase of problems:)

when i type adb shell i get ~ #
if i type su afterward i get
/sbin/sh: su: not found
~ #
Well that signifies that you made it in to the android shell but don't have root. Long shot here but will it allow you to do the rest of the commands. If not then we are going to have to push root in and then come back to this again.

unfortunately not. i tried just the second line: mount -o remount,rw none /system
i get failed: invalid argument. if i type adb root i get a message about adbd already running as root.

The # instead of having a $ told me that you had root. So now I believe this is being blocked by secure adb because the ROM. This is typical of many modern roms including cm based ones. No biggie though. You will just need insecure adb to proceed. Then you can try running the shell commands again.

Here is a xda article that should help.

Airplane mode does not work :(. When I'm at home I have 0-1 bars, so I usually turn on airplane mode and enable wifi, but with this rom, I'm still on cellular plus wifi.

Thanks! The Rom looks really awesome and feels a lot faster than the stock one!

Can't get ADB Root Access in certain ROMs? - xda-developers

thanks for all your help but this is getting too complicated for me :(
I don't know what was changed or removed from this rom, but at least with the stock rom i could bypass the hands free activation. It was quite easy, with the stock rom I think all I did was hit the home button.

Hey, no problem. If you want to try again or need further assistance feel free to ask. That's what these forums are for. We love to help. ;)

Yes, I can see that you have no issues :). However, when I go to settings->network->airplane mode and turn it ON, my cellular and 3G icons don't disappear... after going back to the home screen and going back to the network settings I can see that airplane mode isn't ON... It's like not committing the change.

Can I re-flash the rom and then restore from the backup (if this is the rom flashing issue)? I'm on the black one btw.

the main problem is my lack of knowledge using adb. Its really unknown territory for me, and it makes me uneasy typing in commands that I'm not sure what they are actually doing. I've read over that link and it seems like greek to me. I understand a few (tiny) bits and pieces but not the whole picture. At this point I'm thinking about just going back to stock, and waiting it out for a while.

you can reflash and restore from the backup I'm not positive that this is a ROM issue but I have noticed that there have been more oddities in the black version then the white version

This is a bit of annoyance but whenever I send a test I get a toast message asking me to insert a sim. Anyway for me to disable this?
