Root [Rom][5-26-12]Broken Out Spectrum 3.0 w/ Blitzkrieg Kernel

I've been noticing problems with auto rotation. Sometimes it won't rotate to horizontal no matter what screen or app I'm in. Usually I can fix it by turning off and on the rotate button in the pulldown menu.

And at this moment I can't fix it by doing that or by changing my preferences in go launcher. Anyone else with a similar issue?

Ya. For me at least autorotate seems to work better running popcorn kernel. Also look in market for app called Smart rotator. It works fairly well as you can pick what views you want certain apps to open up in.

I added OTA Rootkeeper - the update is 64% downloaded...
I will let you guys know what clown jumps out of the box when it finishes...

Hey all....

The OTA download finished.
It tried to execute and failed - and Clockwork Mod Recovery showed up...
Then I tried to reboot.
That did not work - just went back to CWM Recovery screen.
So I tried to restore my BO v2.0 backup....
That is not really working cuz I get...

"CHECKING MD5 sums"
MD5 mismatch...

this happens over and over.
So - MT is correct when he says the OTA updates will not load...
thoughts to solve the MD5 problem though?

Flash the broken out zip again and you should be fine.

If anyone would like to test a keep root method for me send me a pm and I will drop you a link. It will be very simple. Flash zip in cwm, reboot, update, should still have root after the update. I am not being offered the ota even when checking, and I don't have a Windows PC so I can't test myself. Thanks!

Thanks, MTM.

I thought of that.

The small problem is that I dont have any idea how I can get the zip onto the phone in CWM...no PC or MAC recognizes the USB mount in this build of CWM - unless I am doing something wrong.

I knew I should left the zip on the phone. Any ideas?

Do you have an old phone or tablet you can put your sdcard in?

Pull out the SD card, load the file on the card using a PC, put the card back in ;)

Isn't there an option in cwm under mounts and storage where you can mount the sdcard or something to that effect? I had to do that on my tbolt before and it worked perfect

I thought CWM was supposed to block ota updates?

MT can your keep root test be done while running broken out?

The zip will actually install the stock zv4 rom, kernel, and recovery but will include my exploit to keep root through the update. Once updated you can reinstall cwm using the all in one.

What happens if root is not maintained? Will the all in one method still work?

It "should" lol. This method does use bliss' exploit to help with 2 things, 1) makes my exploit possible, and 2) just helps with installing cwm afterward. So, you should still be able to use the all in one in the end.

Hi all,

Thanks to MTM for reminding me about my old phone...

Two things:

Yes...CWM has an option to mount the SD card...but it does not function (or at least a couple hours of playing around did not get it working).

Finally was able to use my old LG Ally to download a copy of BO 2.0 zip onto a micro SD card and load it into the the Spectrum.

However, since a few of you might not have an extra phone or table around...

It might be good to save the headache - make sure you have the BO 2.0 zip on your phone - your nandroid backup will not be able to be restored in CWM if somehow that update gets a chance to execute while the phone is in your pocket.

Just a thought....

Having CWM does not block ota's. When the ota runs it does an md5 check on all files that are updated, including recovery. Since the cwm recovery will have a different md5 than stock, it fails the install and reboots. Since the update procedure is somewhat part of the recovery, it reboots into recovery just the same as the button combo, and is why people are getting stuck in recovery.
