Root [ROM][ALPHA][5.1.1] Dirty Unicorns 4/29/2015

A couple times a day the app I'm using will just close itself (not a force close, no popup, it just disappears). It happens with Reddit is Fun and gmail (pretty much the only apps I use, although chrome doesn't appear to have issues), so maybe it's connected to the webview? And it only appears to happen as I'm scrolling.

I skimmed through this thread, but didn't see anything about this. Is this common? Is there a fix? Is there a log I can submit somewhere to help?

Thanks for all your hard work.

I'm not sure that is a problem specific to this ROM, I'm still running LAwe and I get the same problem with the Reddit is Fun app. I tap a link and the app just disappears; it happens quite often. Gmail works fine for me, however.

Anything mentioned in the play store reviews by other users? May be an app issue versus ROM issue.

This mod will change what webview app is used by the system as a whole...
For this to work you must install the Google webview app from market before pushing the modified framework...we've been going about this all wrong as there are some framework dependencies. So just installing the app and libs will not fix it.

So maybe @modhatter6811 or one of the guys with apktool knowledge and the ROM framework can give this a try. If I had the Awe I'd do it myself for you guys but...alas... Confirmed working on the Nexus 5 and Moto X for any ROM running AOSP webview.

You simply have to modify a config in the framework called
"config_webViewPackageName" from com.android.webview to com.google.android.webview
This is located in framework/res/values/strings ... Let me know if anyone gets it working. Good luck. [emoji106]

**Edit**
For anyone using Xposed...
you can do this via xposed with http://repo.xposed.info/module/net.typeblog.webview
however Xposed for 5.1.X is buggy and can break some things. It still may be worth testing to see if it actually fixes the issues...however the hardcoded mod will be best.
***Edit2***
Complete tutorial if anyone wants to work on it.

I finally came to realization that PhenomX4 has not posted the latest ROM because it's not ready for prime time yet . I get restarts often and at times when it does my launcher gets screwy plus some apps just cease to work . No force close app just disappears . problems with wifi like it doesn't sync correctly when it goes into deep sleep and on AP mode . Back on L . Sound quality on DU is leaps above L with headphones . One of the main things I liked about this ROM . Hoping this ROM gets worked on some more . If I can help some just instruct me and I'll do my best and put my part in to getting this stable . Thanks again .

There's a webview problem present that causes only apps that use webview to force close including stock browser IMA see if phen can compile pa and see if there's a difference since that particular ROM seems to be an hit on other devices and the apps that are disappearing that's a force close

I just did the tutorial from your Edit2 and so far it seems to be resolved. I did some heavy webview usage and it didn't crash. I can't say for certain (because the crashes seemed to be random), and I'll update all of you if it crashes again, but I'm staying positive. Thanks starkraving.

No problem, glad it worked... If you posted your modified framework we'd likely get some eager testers to see if this is the fix...[emoji106]

I just put together the most probable list of links and fixes I could find... Since I don't have the device to test on...but if this is the fix the phenomx4 can probably bake it in.
I sent him the info I'm sure he will bake it in in the next few days pa will appear and I'm sure more will appear If the fix is affirmative before u know andriod M will be running on the awe
