[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

I've used Google Voice before and I'm not a big fan - alot of the time I could read the voicemail (or at least their interpretation of it) but it took some time to be able to listen to it - if I could listen to it at all. My regualar voice mail is there in the phone, I just need some way to access it and to have it show when I have a voicemail. Any body out there had any success with this with the new Rom (or had this problem?)

I'm with you. I have tried google and just couldn't get it to work right so I continued to work on trying to fix the Sprint VVM and was finally successful.

Try this and see if it works. It didn't for me when I flashed GB.

Open up VVM and start a recording (about 15sec) stop it and try and send it to someone in your contacts. That worked for me on another ROM but gave me errors when I flashed GB.

If it didn't work and you get an error, did Sprint VVM work before you flashed GB?

1.If it did Nandroid back to that ROM and do a Titanium backup of Sprint VVM.
2. Re flash GB. I then pushed the Spint VVM apk to the System/app folder to the phone. Once it was pushed it seemed to be installed because I had the VVM icon in the app drawer but I still got errors and no notifications. So I opened up ESfile explorer and found the Sprint VVM apk and pressed it to reinstall it. Once it was reinstalled I was able to go to Titanium Backup and restore the data. Once that was done everything worked for me. Try this.

I don't know if the Sprint VVM needs to be pushed to the system/app folder so maybe someone can chime in on that. Or you could just save the VVM apk to the SD card and launch it from there and try the rest of the steps and see if it works.

good luck

John

Try Youmail, I used that for a year with no issues before switching to GV, it is free also

Hi Don,

I'm cool with the Sprint VVM. It is working for me with notifications and I get the # of VM's on the VM widget. So I'm happy:D

Kool at least you know you have options ;)

It is even easier than that. You do not even need to worry about putting ClockworkMod Recovery onto your microSD card.

Just press the button that flashes ClockworkMod Recovery in the ROM Manager app and that is it. I believe I posted the link to the CyanogenMod 7 ROMs in another thread for you.
I have tried several times to flash the ClockworkMod recovery from Rom Manager, but each time I get an error message that says there was an error in downloading and to make sure I have a internet connection. 3G is connected, so I tried with wi-fi and still get the same error message. I have the ClockworkMod recovery on my sd card, can I just do it manually? If so, how do I do that?

Try uninstalling ROM Manager and then reinstalling it. That might fix your ability to flash ClockworkMod Recovery.

Alternatively, I THINK you could just download the latest ClockworkMod Recovery and put it on your microSD card and then still use ROM Manager to flash it. You would have to put it in the right folder on your microSD card and make sure it was named correctly for that to work. Try following this method: http://romrepo.info/wiki/index.php?title=Flash_the_ClockworkMod_Recovery#Method_II .

I have used methods I & II. Both work fine. I am still using 2.5.0.7 with no issues.

So, my brother wants to adopt this ROM. Does he have to use CWM Recovery to flash it, or can he use the old RA 1.2.7? It would be much simpler for me to not have to explain how to flash the latest CWM over the phone. Thanks.

He can use RA, NP

I have RA 1.5 and have no issues. Why fix what isn't broken? Oh I know all the reasons to get the fancy new recovery, but I just don't see the need when my "old" one works just fine.

Totally agree. I wish I had tried without first. Upgrading recovery means you can't easily restore old nands. RA1.6 was the oldest I had heard of until now.

After reading your post, I called Sprint and found out my upgrade, which occureed in Feb, had vanished as I am a Silver Plan Premiere now. After talking toa supervisor I got it restored. I just thought I would pass that info along to anyone who might be in the same position. Your upgrade

This may be an odd question, but here goes. My stock Hero had 7 screens for apps, etc. The 1st rom I tried (CM6) had 5 and now I flashed the AOSP Gingerbread and it has only 3. Any way to change that? I use alot of shortcuts for direct dial, etc and 3 pages is slim pickin's. Thanks.

One other thing before my brother adopts. Sprint VVM. He needs this unfortunately. Both of these work arounds seem a bit complicated. Install Sprint Visual Voicemail - ROMRepo is there any zips I can flash for Sprint VVM for my brother?

As far as I know, you should be able to just download the Sprint Visual Voicemail .apk file and then install it via a file explorer like EStrongs File Explorer. You used to have to do it the complicated way, but it is not required anymore.

Give that a try and see if it works. Let us know if you have any issues.

Change your Home Launcher -
I use LauncherPro - Free Version....

I tried Launcher Pro (also had to download Home Switcher) and I can toggle back and forth between the two, but they both only have 3 screens. (AOSP 2.3.3 Gingerbread comes w/ Zeam) I read on the Launcher Pro install notes that you can have up to 7 homscreens - I don't seem to find any settings or config links to make that adjustment for either one. Is there a way to get in and set that?

From the home screen
Menu key ->Preferences ->Homescreen Settings ->Number of Homescreens

Default launcher is Zeam and should be able to do more also.

MahaloCat - You helped me solve the problem in a very sideways manner, but it turned out that trying to use Launcher Pro helped me solve it. Neither Zeam nor Launcher Pro was set as my "default" launcher, so I was unable to access the settings. Once I did that with Zeam, I suddenly had a "preferences" tab I did not previously have and I was able to modify the settings - I now have 5 screens (possibility of up to 7) and much more ability to modify the launcher. I might play with Launcher Pro just to see what is different, but for now thanks for the help!

Glad I could help....sideways or not.
Zeam is small slick and fast -
LP has WAY more customizations.....

Enjoy

Hi guys,
First let me that this forum is a godsend!
I was on the verge of tossing my hero into a bucket of gasoline because it was so annoyingly slow!
But, after rooting and flashing this ROM, it's like having a brand new phone!

I do have a couple questions though...

Is there a way to make the status bar a little bigger?
Feels like I have to hold the phone an inch from my face to see the data speed icon

Also, this ROM seems to destroy my battery life. It was fine on my stock 2.1 setup.
I even did the calibration trick yesterday. But, this morning. I unplugged it after charging all night and by the time I got to work (15min drive) it showed I was already down to 84%.
The phone was off all night so I turned it on thus morning and the only apps I've installed since the flash were titanium and a
