Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

I've already had a couple more reboots today, twice my phone was frozen after it rebooted and I had to power down manually and restart.

Is there a way to create and retrieve a crash log that might be helpful to Fab? I am looking forward to his rewrite based on the OTA.

I installed the mms.apk onto my system and deleted conversations.apk and now my timestamp issue seems to be corrected. Anybody else see this?

I've had 2 restarts so far today. Once when turning the screen on and once when it was just sitting in my lap. Still love this ROM though.

Proof that Google does things better than Motorola ;)

Yeah I had a restart today, as well as subpar battery life. That's what made me decide to rebuild ApeX off the OTA 2.3.15 tonight. Hopefully RC2 will be ready by the weekend.

so Fab, you gonna flash the 2.2 sbf to get the new radio and kernel then put the new apex over it?

Will that upgrade the bootloader?

Well, the radio and kernel and bootloader are independent of the ROM, so if the user didn't flash the OTA, they'll still have the old radio, kernel and bootloader, and still be able to load the new ApeX.

I just flashed the SBF to personally get those things, as well as get the official system, which I then deodexed and am using to rebuild ApeX.

Will that upgrade the bootloader?

Nope ;)

yeah i was thinking of doing that as well. i will probably wait until you put out RC2 then i will go through the process of sbf,root,deodex,RC2 and theme. :)

Is there a deodexed version of the OTA that we can upgrade to or do we need to install the OTA and then root and deodex?

Is it better to use the SBF for the OTA or use the update.zip, does it matter?

Are you going to use mms.apk in the Apex build instead of conversations.apk?

That is exactly what I am going to do, just want to do it the easiest way. Is is best to update using the sbf?

loving this rom. my experience with it has been smooth and fast. REVOlution looks great on it. launcher pro works well with it too. i have the OTA. no reboots, and i dont wifi tether, so i havent done the hotfix(s) yet. thank you for your time, effort and passion on this fab.

It really took me like 30 mins to use the SBF and get rooted and deodexed again.

If you want to use the update.zip, that requires restoring your system back to stock status, which basically requires you to use the 2.1 SBF.

Also, I've been using Mms.apk since the first beta of ApeX! It has never had the timestamp issue.

Yeah I've used the sbf a couple times after bricking so it isn't that big of a deal to me, just wanted to do it the best way to update to the OTA. And I have got a new laptop since the last time I did it and getting drivers to work right always gives me problems for some reason.

Have you seen this:
[APP]SuperOneClick v1.4 (Root, Enable Non-Market App, Get UNLOCK code) - xda-developers

Do you recommend using that or is there a better root method to use (Droid 2 method or something different)? Also what is the best way to deodex?

what Fab said. sbf is the easiest way. probably the cleanest as well.

How exactly do you use Mms.apk? I'm assuming scripts right?

It's already installed, assuming you're using ApeX. Mms.apk is the stock Android SMS/MMS client.

You just install it (by changing the permissions) using root explorer and then delete conversations.apk and reboot your phone

Are you using a different ROM? There's no need to install Mms.apk on ApeX, it comes preinstalled.

I used that to get root.

If you're going to be installing a ROM, skip the deodexing because all the ROMs are already deodexed. Just install bootstrapper after you've rooted and be on your way.

I am on 2.3.15, tranq 2.3.8, beesly build.props with some tweaks of my own.

Can i just install APEX on top of TRANQ 2.3.8 on system leak 2.3.15?

PS. I have never updated via OTA. Once these roms started popping up I will never OTA until way after it is tested and hacked.

yes you can put apex over your setup.

So will the current ApeX work for OTA 2.2 or do we need to wait for your rebuild, I already put this on my SD card and was about to install. I though it was ok for the OTA 2.2 but I also read though this last night at 3am, so that may be why I didn't read it right.

Hey guys. Love ApeX so far. Lightning fast! Just one problem: I don't have backup assistant for some reason. Im kind of a noob when it comes to this stuff so if anyone could help me out in a way a noob might understand that would be great!

that is a blur app and this rom removes all blur items. you will need to pull it from another rom or backup. ;)
