Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

Fab - thanks for creating this. I'm waiting for the final version so I can run this + Nex theme. I find it takes me weeks to fully reconfigure my phone between changing roms etc. Just the annoyance of having to get my BT working (for audio and phone independently) with each of my vehicles is enough alone to keep me from continuously swapping.

P.S. how about a custom boot animation, I want to change my avitar to something designed by someone who is currently still supporting our phones :)

Please check the 2nd post for hotfix 2. Hopefully this will fix some random reboot issues and improve battery life. I believe those were caused by the BlurPhone.apk I included in HF1.

This should also allow users who weren't able to use the market version of VVM to now use it.

Just got the new hot fix installed, thanks for all your hard work

ok total noob question but i really need backupmanager, how do i install it? i need step by step here

thaks in advance guys!
btw the rom is awesome man thanks
Do you mean backup assistant? If so you need to install BackupAssistanceClient.apk and android-syncservice-app.apk. Get them from 2.3.15. Once both are installed, Backup Assistant works. You can install them with terminal emulator, su, install BackupAssistanceClient.apk, install android-syncservice-app.apk, exit, exit, reboot phone or use root explorer to copy and paste them into your system/app folder, set permissions and reboot phone. Once rebooted, open the Backup Assistant app, and you should be good.

thank you so much! but as it turns out i synced with Verizon and gmail so i now no longer need it , thanks for the info tho im sure someone else will need this too

I looked through the files a bit, it seems pretty good. No Blur at all. I think they took an AOSP build and only replaced what they had to with files from the 2.3.15 release (like drivers, etc.)

Anyways, I'm gonna give that a whirl tomorrow after there's some more feedback. I need to sleep tonight soon, haha.

Thanks again Fab, always the greatest. I will try it out tonight and tomorrow, and I will probably switch back tomorrow to yours so I can see if the hotfix fixed the reboot problem.

Haven't noticed a lot of differences so far between the two. The stock launcher is different.

Now that it looks like we have a 2.2OTA SBF, is there any advantage to updating to OTA and reinstalling ApeX? If so, what would be the best procedure for doing so?

I was thinking of doing the same thing because of the updated radio in the OTA.

I installed the second hotfix last night and this morning I already had a random reboot when unlocking my phone.

Maybe I am getting more reboots on ApeX than I was before because there is some change between 2.3.9 and 2.3.15??

Same here, I went back to my apex back up, installed the hot fix and I got a reboot a while later when unlocking the screen. I'm back to rubix focused for now, I've been using it for about a week and have not had 1 reboot. Hopefully fab can get this fixed, I really like his ROM and want to use it.

Yeah, I really like it too. I am going to give it a few more days before I change because Fab has done some great work so far and I have faith he can get this fixed.

No problems here after Hotfix2. Smooth as ever. Did you do the full wipe before your original ApeX install? I wiped and restored with TB instead of Advanced Data Restore.

Yes I did the full wipe and used MyBackup Pro to restore the apps I wanted.
