Root [ROM] ApeX V2.0.0 Beta (5/3/2011)

This may be another thing that I am just noticing since I went right from ApeX 1.4 to ApeX 2.0 and spent no time on stock GingerBlur but...

My battery life is poor. Like really poor. With the extended battery on ApeX 1.4 I could easily go 24-30 hours. Yesterday I took my phone off the charger at 7:30 am, had a very light day of usage, and by 9:30 I was seeing the 15% warning - which I had NEVER ever seen on any FroYo based rom. Nothing weird is sticking out in the battery manager.

Any ideas folks?

this rom with better keyboard with gb skin is super awesome. no bloatware, almost 100mb memory free, with all of my apps installed before apex, phone is overall very snappy, smooth and the GPS works very quickly.

only issue is the led, i dont know if its working well, and the lights on the buttons at the bottom didnt work at first, neither did the clicking sound on the better keyboard at first. but now it works.

Good to know that the GPS problem was limited to me. As for the LED issue, on the .595 leak, I added the 'ro.com.motorola.smartsensor=true' (or something close to that) string to the build.prop file. This seemed to fix the hard key light issue for me. Granted, using the sensor, the hard key lights will not turn on if there is enough ambient light.

Here is what I did with the car dock. I renamed the carhome.apk to carhome.bak. Next, Google search and find the Google car dock. You will need both the cardock and the launcher file. Using Root Explorer, enable R/W in your System\App folder and place both in there. Enable R/O and reboot. Instead of the Blur dock, you will have the Google Car Dock. This, IMO, is a much better dock. The Music works, and you have 3 customizable screens. However, a problem I was having is the light sensor was not working properly. It would jump randomly from 'night' mode to 'day' mode; resulting in the screen dimming and brightening. The work around is disabling the auto light sensor.

As a side note, even on the .595 GB leak, the light sensor is giving me fits. This was a constant from .573, all the way through .595 and Apex 2.0. It seems like the auto sensor gets stuck and no longer works after some time.

And a question for you, or anyone else for that matter, how is your GPS lock time? Mine was very long.

Thanks for this, I will try it on my car dock. By any chance, do you have a multi-media dock too? I'd like to avoid the annoyance of reboots on this one as well.:D

So has anyone found a version of Netflix that works with Beta 2.0.0? I have tried a couple and get to the screen to play the movie and it just stays black.

I have a weird bug that I found, not sure if its been reported or not. If I get below 15% battery and plug my phone into the charger, it will rapidly flash the disconnected message and vibrate several times a second. If I lock it while its doing this and then unlock it all is fine.

I have had an issue twice since installing the beta (from the alpha). The phone will shut itself off while I'm not using it, and when I go back to boot it, it will boot but the screen/keys don't respond and it's useless. I had to reinstall the ROM each time to get my phone usable again. Has this happened to anyone else? I haven't been able to connect it with anything like an app install, specific activity, etc.

Also, in the middle of the night last night, my ringtone went off and wouldn't stop. No alert or anything, just wouldn't shut up. I was tired so I just put it on vibrate and it didn't vibrate so I ignored it. Hours later, turned the volume back up and it was still ringing. Had to reboot to get it to stop. No idea what the heck happened, but it would be unpleasant to have it happen again in the middle of the night like that.

Apex 1.4.1 - SBF'd to stock, then upgraded to first GB leak, then kernel patch and 2.0.

Everything seems to be working fine except for Gmail - i installed gmail from the market and it simply FCs on me every time i try to open it. Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issue...any ideas?

Ok Since im getting sick of looking and have been looking at shitloads of guides for a few hours now. Alright i am on Apex 1.4.1
Here is what my phone is on:
System Version: 2.3.340.MB810
Model: Droidx
Android Version: 2.2.1
Baseband: BP_C_01.09.07p
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-g55626e1w30471
Build Number: ApeX 1.4.1

Could someone please put all the instructions in one place for once or link detailed ones for those of us that dont do this on a weekly basis. To sbf, update kernel, then flash apex 2.0 update 2 or 3 not sure which one is out.

I already have downloaded ApeX_Kernel_update, Fabolous_ApeX_2-0_Beta-Part1/2, Blur Version.23588.p1/2/3

All i need is detailed instructions on how to go about doing this update for my droid x. Please and Thank you.

Since you are already on .340 you can skip having to SBF to .340.

Compliments of Raryn and a couple things added by me:
To get to Gingerbread .595 (the most recent leak), you need to start with stock .340.

Step by step if you want to get to the newest Gingerbread:

1. 1. Download z4root (here), Droid 2 Bootstrap (here), the 3 parts of the .588 install (here), and .595 (here I recommend deodexed, because people have been having major bootloop problems with the odexed one) and put them all onto your SD card.
2. Backup your files and whatnot from your current build however you usually do. I did a TiBU of all of my user apps+data as well as my user dictionary. Also did a backup of my call log using "call log backup and restore"
3. Enter Bootstrap (either Droid2 or Droidx) and wipe all data and cache and reboot your phone.
4. Install z4root and permaroot with it.
5. install droid 2 bootstrap. Bootstrap recovery, reboot into recovery, wipe data/cache, and install all 3 parts of .588 (from step 1), sequentially. You must install all 3 before you leave recovery. Wipe data/cache again here. (Yes, you're wiping it a lot when there shouldn't be anything on there, but its the easiest way to avoid bootloops).
6. Boot your phone and install Droid2Bootstrap and make a recovery.
7. install ApeX V2.0.0 Part 1 and ApeX Kernel Updater. Boot your phone and install if needed reinstal z4root and Droid2Bootstrap
8. Reboot into recovery and install ApeX V2.0.0 Part 2
9. Make another backup if you would like.
10. Boot into ApeX and enjoy!

PS. if you follow these instructions, you can't really screw it up. Even if you somehow flash files in the wrong order or something, you will only be an SBF from fixing it. The only circumstances in which you could break your phone is if your battery dies mid-flash. So have a full (or almost full) battery before you start.

Anyone else having dialer Trbl mine does nothing but dc. W. ked fine for over a week. Dialer one works fine. Tried clearing cache and reinstalling zip. No luck

Same here... I click on a contact and the dialer just exits out to the home screen. If I long press on a contact to try to edit the contact, same thing, exits to home screen.

I'll try to explain how I did it but I will say that I did fail and bricked my phone (because I tended to skip ahead the lists of instructions because I was so anxious to upgrade)... anyway, the biggest thing is this: maderstcok - OTA 2.3.340 update.zip - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

This above is maderstcok's SBF. Because I have a Mac and not a PC, I couldn't do the RSDLite since it is only for (stupidly enough) PC's. Moving ahead, follow these instructions, this will bring you to the original 2.3.340 OTA Update, A.K.A. Stock Froyo. From here you can follow any list of ways to do this... but I'll continue the way I did. Be careful. It is really easy to bootloop & brick your phone.

Z4Root is how you obviously rooted your phone, you'll need to do that again. The link for it is: How to: Root the DROID X or DROID 2 Using z4root 1.3.0 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

From here, get the Droid X Bootstrap (Droid X now, you'll need the Droid 2 Bootstrap later). My Brain Hurts: Droid X Recovery (and Droid 2 too!) I think there you can also get the Droid 2. If you're feeling generous, buy it from the Market. The guy absolutely deserves it. Now, the way I've read it is that you need to go through Gingerbread through succession. In better words, you can't go from a rooted 2.3.340 to Gingerbread 4.5.595. So, we start from the beginning. Here is the guide to use to do this: How to: Get Rooted Gingerbread on DROID X - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

It will make you download this file:MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

That file is 4.5.573? I think. Download and install Droid 2 Bootstrap, then reboot into clockworkmod and follow these instructions: New DROIDX Gingerbread 4.5.588 Rooted - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

Now, after this Droid 2 Bootstrap one more time, and we go onto Another Motorola DROIDX Gingerbread Leaks, Version 4.5.591 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

If at any point during these installations you've lost root, use the Gingerbreak.apk. This causes root only on Gingerbread, so do not use this in replacement of Z4Root

There's a chance you'll lose root in 4.5.591, so do the Gingerbreak.apk, don't move on to 4.5.595. This is not going to allow you to install Apex. Stick to 4.5.591. Droid 2 Bootstrap and follow Fab's instructions on installing Apex 2.0.0

If anyone has read this and has spotted any errors or wants to chime in, please feel free to PM, quote or notify me and I'll edit this right away. Thanks

Also, draconius's explanation is just as good http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...pex-v2-0-0-beta-5-3-2011-a-6.html#post2690724

Not working on mine either... Anyone have a fix?

Well I jumped ship to .595 and it is working great. Not that I don't like Fab's work, it is great, but on .595 I can not tell I am on a stock ROM this thing is flying and I have not seen any bugs at all.

For good news it looks like Fab is going to look to update Apex to the .595 leak. I can't wait to see what he can do with a base of it is already.

That actually may change because apparently some developer for the Droid X got the update todayish... hopefully he lets it leak, we'll see.

Ok now im having alot of issues with 2.0 beta. I tried to restore my 1.4.1 and i got stuck on the red moto boot logo. I would like to go back to 1.4.1 anyone have any directions for me to follow. I think im gona hold off on 2.0 til it comes out in full and has more bugs worked out.

The problems i was having is, my phone app is no longer installed, having issues with gmail and calender, alot of the blur apps i used alot were removed like the blur car dock *The new one is not as customizable, and also the music icon on it doesnt work.

Any help would be great i am on .588 also so idk if that means i have to downgrade back to where i was if thats possible

After load new apex 2.0, every thing very nice, smooth, fast. but I can not use Android Wireless tethering for root any more, the internet route to verizon to activate 20$ monthly plan. May be I do something wrong?

To restore ApeX 1.4 or ANY FroYo rom you MUST SBF first or you will bootloop.

This is not an Apex issue, this is a Gingerbread issue, Verizon is cracking down on wireless tether without the tethering plan.

I'm not sure if this is possible, and I tried to find an answer, but I don't even know if I'm searching for the right stuff...

I want to replace the notification bar that comes with Apex, with the one from Moto's leaked GB. I liked it's color and different icons better...

Anyone know if this is possible, and if so, can direct me to a place where I can learn how to do this?

Alright so this took my a few hours to figure out. If you are stuck and have NO idea what to do next follow this:
-SBF to 2.3.340 (really simple)
-Root with Z4Root (google it)
-Once it loads, follow this guide: DroidX Gingerbread 2.3.3(4.5.588) Install Patch with Root
-Bootstrap into Droid 2 recovery.
-Wipe data/cache
-Then flash Apex kernel
-WITHOUT rebooting or wiping, flash part 1.
-Now reboot phone and let Apex run.
-You should be rooted (if not do z4root)
-Install Droid 2 Bootstrapper again.
-Go into recovery from the app.
-DO NOT WIPE.
-flash part 2 and voila! Apex 2.0

For those of you having troubles with settings not showing up:
-Reboot with Droid 2 bootstrapper
-Wipe data/cache
-Flash Apex Kernel
-Flash part 1
-Reboot
-Reboot into recovery with Droid 2 bootstrapper.
-Flash part 2

Note: You should only wipe before installing the kernel, if you wipe after kernel or any of the parts, you will not have settings.

EDIT: Apex 2.0 is causing WAY too many problems. There ARE many bugs.
Bugs:
-In one of my many flashes of working Apex 2.0 Charging was not working.
-Market is a complete mess (in all flashes)
-USB debugging is enabled, but the notification does not show up.
-Every time you need to wipe data/cache you need to reinstall part 1 and part 2 (why?!)
-In some flashes, gmail appears, in others it doesn't.
-You can't say that everything is functional when you don't have a working market, a working dock, working google apps. I'm not trying to say bad things because I've always loved Apex and the smoothness of it and since it's a beta I'm ok with it, however please don't mention that EVERYTHING is functional when in fact there are many things wrong.

I was on Liberty, sbf'd back to .340, installed Gingerbread, rooted, then tried to install the kernal, which it wouldn't let me for some odd reason. And now I can't reboot my phone. It just gets stuck at the M symbol. When I reboot into the Moto recovery I can't get any of the options to pop up so I can factory reset. So I'm kinda stuck.

Can someone help??

You completely forgot to go to GB system. Follow my post above yours to do the Three Step process. You need to do yet another SBF because of boot loop.

Just so someone reading your post doesn't confuse the problems you've experience with actual problems with the ROM...

1. If it only happened once, it sounds like it was a data/cache wiping issue since you mentioned you flashed it "many" times. I try to make sure to wipe at least 3x just to be thorough.

2. That's not very descriptive. From what I understand, it's mostly a Gingerbread problem, and applying the "market fix" APK fixed everything on my end.

3. The notification does not show up where? I've only ever gotten a USB notification when I'm actually plugged into something.

4. You only reinstall part 1 while wiping data, you can wipe cache - as in going from APEX beta to 2.0.

5. Market apps are removed. This is a case of not correctly wiping data and cache - Gmail shouldn't be on your phone after a fresh install. Also, make sure to enable Gmail sync in settings after installing.

6. See above
