Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/01/13)

Can someone explain to me the step-by-step process of installing this ROM? Thanks :)

Edit: I don't have my Phone rooted, is that a problem? Do I need to root it? If so, how?

Check out the Alt root guide by 1234west, its an easier way to root the marquee and getting clockwork mod recovery installed as well

I've been running this ROM for a while now and it has performed quite well. In the last couple of weeks I've had something strange happening in terms of it always wanting to go to roaming and not use the Sprint network. I don't know if this is related to the ROM in any way or perhaps the Marquee is having a hardware issue with the radio.

Any ideas on what I can check?

I had this same problem and I can tell you never do a PRL update from the phone using CTMOD. You have to be running stock for that to work. However you can use tools such as DFS and QPST to manually update the PRL with your Windows PC. You will need your IMEI (Unlock) code, You can get it by calling Sprint. Wetbiker has a nice video tutorial on using DFS.

Here is one for QPST.

I have no idea what causes the issue but the only way to fix it seems to be a manual PRL update. It has nothing to do with CTMOD though. I had the same problem running Megatron. Here is where to get the latest PRL's for Sprint.

I've been having to do a PRL update about once a week or so for about the last four to six weeks. I've only done so through the phone menu, and never through the IMEI or DFS method mentioned above. It almost always reverts back to local 3g.

Every time I tried to update my PRL through the phone I got 1X service or no service. Which is why I say use the DFS method :)

After I did a PRL update through the phone last night (which didn't change the PRL number), it was stuck in "roaming" with no 3G data (I'm on Ting, where the only downside is no 3G while roaming). I did 5 or 6 reboots, and finally gave up. I figured I'd be learning about DFS today, but this morning the phone is magically working again. Apparently sometimes these things heal!:D

Here a decent tutorial I made about using DFS. It's pretty much straight forward on how to use it too. I also made a video to help walk you through the process. Please excuse the video quality though. It's a little blurry but still shows you the exact steps you'll need to follow. Just remember to pay very close attention to the last bit about hitting the RESET tab on DFS. YOU MUST DO THIS OR YOU'LL BE STUCK W/O A PRL. Best of luck if you decide to change it. If you have any questions at all regarding DFS, please let me know and I'll do my best to help you out. :)

Thanks - I already have that post bookmarked! Since it's currently working well, I'm going to quit picking that scab!

I'm having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi networks. It will say that it's connected but the signal bar doesn't turn white. This has happened on several different networks. Anyone know what the problem could be. I have even done a factory reset and reflashed

grey wifi/3g/signal icons mean your not signed into your gmail account or you have sync turned off. It doesn't have to do with signal strength or anything like that.

Would that cause my Wi-Fi not to work at all. I couldn't get any Dara

it wouldn't.

if your home wifi is one of the networks thats not working, try to unplug your modem/router for 60 secs then plug them back in, wait another minute and try the wifi again.

other than that I dunno what to tell you bro but theres no wifi problems with CT.

Agreed with Blood. I use WiFi regularly on this ROM, and connect to about 4 different WiFi (home, work, two diff in laws), with no issues.

I didn't think CT has ever had any issues with Wi-Fi. I was out of town at hotel and there was 4 open networks to connect to as guests and I tried everything and couldn't connect. . I guess it was the hotels network that wasn't configured correct. Thanks I'm just hoping to figure out what my problems were

You might go into the Advanced menu and check Regulatory Mode and make sure it is set to 11. Also make sure you are not set up to use a static IP. You can access the Advanced menu by going into settings and choosing Wi Fi and then press the settings button again then choose Advanced. If none of this works you might try using the Static IP option with a public DNS server like Google 8.8.8.8 for the primary and 8.8.4.4 for the secondary. You can see what you IP and Subnet scheme is by typing ipconfig in a command prompt using a Windows machine.

Not to be captain obvious here, but just to make sure this is not the problem... Often with public wifi (especially hotels) after you have connected you have to open up your browser to accept their terms of use, etc.

Just saying, because I have done this before without opening the browser, and it seems like wifi is not working, but it was just the fact that I hadn't accepted their terms of use. Sometimes I just want wifi for other apps than the browser and forget about the way it needs to open the browser.

Just a thought.
:D

You are absolutely correct! Just about all open wifi at hotels, coffee shops, etc. require you to log on with your browser and accept terms before you are allowed to connect.

LOL!!!! I was at Pep Boys the other day and tried to connect to their wifi. Even they have it set up to where I had to open the browser and agree to the terms. :p

Yeah I know exactly what your your talking about but it wouldn't do anything when I opened my browser. What had me concerned is my friend was using her ZTE Warp and didn't have any trouble using Wi-Fi at the same hotel

Now that my friend just could have been the issue. I didn't knowset static ip I will be back to that hotel in a few weeks and I'm going try thatand see if that is the problem. Thanks everyone for your input

My phone got stuck on roaming after a trip down to San Diego over the weekend. Turning roaming off left me without service, and resetting, pulling the battery, and updating the PRL and profile from the device multiple times didn't do anything.

While doing this, I noticed one time while updating the PRL, it actually showed no roaming momentarily. When it did this, I "canceled" and was left on regular 3G on Sprint. Then my curiosity got the better of me, so I manually set roaming to "Sprint Only," then tried a PRL update. When I did that, I was left with a red X showing no connection. Sweet. So then I had to switch roaming back on to get a connection, then began messing with the PRL update until I finally hooked back up to Sprint. For the time being, I'm switching it back to "Sprint Only" to make sure this doesn't happen again.

No idea what broke on my phone and why it's acting this way now.

As an aside, one of the times when I rebooted, I saw a notification from GooManager and got exciting thinking that there was a new update to this ROM (which has been running stellar). I was bummed to find out that there was not.=)

Also on Sprint and had a got-stuck-on-roaming yesterday. I did the PRL update via Android, it fixed it, then a few hours the same thing happened again. Repeated the process and the second time it seems to have stuck. I'm putting it on Sprint only for the time being as well. They just installed 4G in our area (my wife's GS3 is rocking it) so they've probably been fiddling with the towers alot.

Based on what you guys posted here, I tried updating my PRL several times this morning. It kept saying it was updating but it seemed to stay on the same 21097 PRL level afterwards.

Anyway after several "updates" mine now says 3G again instead of roaming. I am in a different state today so I have no idea if that is significant or not. I'll watch it to see if it sticks now and then what happens when I return home.
