Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

my battery icon is acting like is charging and is draining my battery fast.. any suggestion?

Happens to mine from time to time. your charging port is dirty. Use something to gently clean it out. (i fold a dollar bill to a point and use it to clean the contacts)

In setting up my Prevail on rooting it, I messed up and somehow denied supper user access to CTMod. I can't seem to find a way to fix this.

I have done some Google Searching and Forum Searching, but have not found how to re=set or change the settings..

Anyone know how to fix my mistake?

Go into the super user app, find the entry for ctmod settings, change it to allow... If that doesn't work, you can factory reset and try again...

I have tried that. But when I go into Super user I can't figure out how to toggle or change it to allow. However in messing with it, I went into supper user, then into ctmod.. Then there are 3 gray symbols at the bottom. In the center is a trash can. Well I pushed them all, and it seemed to do nothing. I backed out to the main screen for Supperuser, and CTMod was no longer there. When I went into CTMode again, I was asked to give permission. This time I said yes. All is good now.

Strange, I came to respond to the email notice that someone posted this:
Just what he said. CTMOD drops my signal strength too. It did it on my Prevail and it does it on my Marquee. It's usually about a 1 bar difference or so.

I've been saying this for quite awhile now. Lol
But I am not seeing that post in this thread now???

I will open my mouth anyway.

Bars are a bad way to judge signal strength. Different phone and different providers display bars to signal differently.

Your signal can be the same. It could be the way that signal is displayed in bars that has changed.

On my prevail (rooted with CTMod about two weeks ago), four bars is around 85bd. One bar is about 95 bd. No bars but service is about 100 db. 105 db is equal to no usable signal for me on text, data or voice. Same as it was before I rooted.

In my home area I never get a full 5 bars. And Boost Mobile rates my home address as good service. Also moving you phone from left to right, from top to bottom, with out really moving where in space the phone is, can change the signal by 5 bd easily. Especially when you are in the 95 db range to begin with.

The higher the number in db, the worst the signal.

Have you looked at what your signal really is?

Go to settings, about phone, status, scroll to signal strength. See what in bd your signal is. Before modifying the phone what were your db readings?... etc....

Your right Mike. The interface of CTMOD makes it look like my signal is lower but my DBM is about the same. Sorry it takes me a few days to get used to all this I just flashed my phone a couple days back for the first time.

I appreciate the response.

I completely understand I rooted my phone only a week or so ago and I'm learning as I go. Happy to help. It is my way to give back for the help I have gotten.

I posted the reply but removed it because I really didn't feel like explaining myself again and again.

@ Boostermike. When someone removes a comment, it's usually for a good reason. Please keep that in mind next time. lmao

I've experienced signal loss from not only CTMOD but also CM7. This has nothing to do with the actual bars either. I just use that as a reference for people who don't know what a dbm is.

I've been saying this for quite awhile now too. That's why I removed the damn comment because I knew I was gonna have to come I here and explain myself.

It is not the change in the way your phone shows the signal either. That happened when they changed the baseband awhile back and I've already discussed this with Kouma and TDM. I can have overcast weather here at the house and have no signal at all. I mean the RED X people. I then flash the stock rooted ROM and get signal. This is not a one time thing. Back before they upgraded the tower in my area, I would have to do this from time to time. That is how I discovered that it was an actual loss of signal I was seeing on my phone.

People can say it's the way the phone converts the dbm's into bars all they want. I know what I've experienced and it is a true loss of signal. How else can you explain one ROM not having signal while another does? You can't.

EDIT:

Had to come back in here and add this.
Just because it happens on my phone doesn't mean it'll happen on ALL phones. We all know that these phones have minds of their own and experiences vary. Also, even though I may have experienced a slight loss of signal, I still ran the hell out of CTMod on my Prevail. It's just an all around good ROM and I recommend anyone with a Prevail to give it a try.

First let me apologize to you if my referencing your post was an issue in any way shape or form. My responding to it was not meant as a negative to you, your thoughts and so on.

My response was simply to point out that there is a difference between signal loss and lose or changes in "bars". One is not always the same as the other.

It is clear to me, for you there is a loss in your phones ability to use a signal..

After all if one Rom gives you usable signal and the other does not. Then something is effecting the way your phone is process or using the signal, etc..

And as you referenced... The big question is Why?

For myself I do not have the needed understanding of electronics, nor programing to take a shot at explaining what it could be.

But I know enough that I would say obviously your phone works better as a phone with one rom over the other.

I know in my case I am seeing no difference in my phone between the roms on measured Bd. I keep an eye on mine because I live between to towers in a rural area with bad coverage (no matter the provider). And for two years now, one of the towers tends to stop working for no reason. I refer to it as the flickering light tower. Because much like a light that flickers on and off, this tower is a pain in the butt. And also when it goes down, the other tower gets over loaded. But I'm off subject.

The joys of electronics... Everything works great on 9 identical phones, but on the 10th, it is a no go. That can drive you crazy.

And again no disrespect meant by referencing your post.

Lol. It's all good man. No disrespect taken. I've just gone through this before and didn't feel like doing it again.
Here's one for you. It not only affects signal on my Prevail...... It does the same thing on my Marquee. Ctmod and AOKP both have a lower signal strength than a stock based ROM. I've tested this on multiple occasions and it is what it is. ;)

If you can't swype to unlock the phone, how will removing the lockscreen allow you to use the phone?(removing the lock screen will not improve touch responsiveness) Sounds more like you're interested in breaking into a phone to me ;)

would you guys like another rom update soon? I'm doing a update for the marquee to fix some bugs and I changed some stuff around and added a couple features while I was at it.

Sounds great! I talk to Kouma about making ssm have an expandable memory like data mode. Would be cool if he had that and you can add that in. Other than that can't wait to see what you have in store for us! :D:)

PS. Don't know if there's any way but it would be nice to have the incall volume and speaker phone in call volume louder, like cm7. I have tried many apps and nothing seems to do the trick.

Try this Chris. It's called Speaker Boost.

Also, a good app to try is Battery Widget Reborn. It breaks down and shows you your biggest battery draining apps. It also offers many other options. I got it last night and like it.

I am assuming you are offering it for the Prevail...

I only rooted my phone as short time ago. And this is mostly new to me and I am a trying to edumacate myself on it... But all I can say is "Why would we not!?".

And as i am here... Again thank you so very much.

And don't forget to make sure we have a donate link for you.
