Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

I reloaded my friends phone a week ago I guess. He said it hasn't been keeping the correct time and is running slow. Sometimes apps crash.

I have it set to use the memory card (Class10 8GB) as the storage area for apps. I installed 15-20 apps maybe.

Any ideas on fixing this?

Hmmm. When I used Cyanogen 7 I had that problem. I've not yet had that issue with CT final, or this update version. As far as the apps, I know what they'll say if anyone thinks it may be an app. Get rid of them all & only put one back on the phone every couple days so you can pinpoint which app is conflicting. I may be wrong, but I've never had any problem with an app messing with my cell keeping time. Once I switched back to this CT update from Cyan, I haven't had problems with the clock. Or anything else for that matter.
Good luck!

Does anyone have a mirror for 3.80? I have been trying for 10 minutes and keep getting server error. Thanks in advance.

Sorry it just decided to work after 50 tries so nevermind! lol

My friend use the standard "email" app on the phone. Doesn't look like this ROM included it. Anyway to get that back?

He still complains about the phone running slow and when using the TuneIn app that it buffers a lot. I might reflash the phone and not use the storage card for app memory and see how it does and just put very few apps on.

First post in this thread :

How to add removed app's:
➯ Download this: RemovedApps.zip and CLICK HERE for instructions on how to add them

The slow running might be the TuneIn app by itself, maybe it needs a faster processor, or your friend uses an old, slow class 2 card.... Might want to try a faster class 10 card !!!

I just decided to reload it and not use the card as app storage. Just put very few apps back on. He was using a Class10 card that I bought.

I used a ROM for a family member on the ZTE Merit phone. I don't think it's better than the prevail and I used a Class10 on that phone and the phone using the card as app storage. I've gotten zero complaints from them on speed and they placed a bunch of apps on the phone.

Wonder it there's a test utility to make sure the card is running at the correct read/write speeds?

I want to know what are the right steps in order aside from preference when it comes to doing a new install of CTMod. In different posts I see more steps and sometimes less.

I realize it can be different related to what setup and mode is being used, so I'm generally talking about things like reformatting/wiping and resetting after doing certain steps before and after the actual install and any post configuration being done.

I use a 4 partition (3-1gb's) SSM mode setup on a 16Gb sd card, [fat|ext4|ext4|swap].

Using the latest CTMod 3.80 these are the steps I used for a fresh install:

1) in recovery run SSM setup, sdparted -i
2) stay in recovery, mount usb, put ctmod on sd, install
3) boot, run & config sdparter, reboot
4) koumamod, choose ssm, save, reboot
5) koumamod, setup swap settings, save, reboot

Now anywhere in between these steps I've read to run SD2EXT4.zip (formats both sd-ext & sd-swap to ext4), SSM_Wipe_Dalvik-swap2ext4formatter.zip, or at some point go back into recovery mode and delete/reformat all the user data etc.

I don't do any of the above mentioned steps myself, as far as I understand it the CTMod zip install formats the pre-created partitions to ext4 made from running sdparted -i in step1 above, and then after CT is installed and boots and SDParter is ran, that formats the partitions to ext4 as well.

So I want to know if my own 5 steps listed above are fine, should I be doing anything else in between any of those steps like the others I mentioned, or am I good.? I think a good explanation might help any newbs and others that come along and might want a better understanding of it as well.

Thanks.

Simply put, if it boots... And everything is mounted accordingly... Then ur fine.

In terminal do
Code:
df
If it shows listings for /data/app &/data/dalvik ur good

Then do
Code:
free

If it shows a listing under swap you're golden

I'm sorry to ask such a silly question but I cant seem to find the answer, as far as the installation of CTMod I get all the steps but the first one...how to I copy the zip to my sd card, do I do that through CWM also or should I be in DL mode? Thanks.

If the Rom is downloaded onto your computer then you can hook up your phone via USB to the computer. Then select the mass storage option on your phone so that your computer will see your phone as a drive. Last, copy the file onto the root of your sd card.

All you have to do is download that zip to your PC or laptop and then plug your phone into the PC or laptop and copy it from the PC laptop to the SD card which when you plug in your phone you should be able to open up your phone or the SD card and see everything that's on your SD card. Just copy and paste.

Hey. I'm confused about what the gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip file in the first post is for. Oviously its not the same as the removed-apps, but theres a lot of apps in there i never seen or know what their for.

Im doing this from my phone and cant copy the name of every app in that zip to post here, but i want to know what this seperate zip is for compared to the removed-apps one and what each app is for in gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

thanks, yet again.

they are if u want to use google talk now knows as hangout on the play store, and genuinewidget.apk , a weather and news provider, the information for genuinewidget.apk is pulled from yahoo i think.

Thanks. I need to know what each is for and what they do, so I can decide if I want them and I just want to know for my own education of it.

Was your signal steady before?

Have you called boost to see if there is an issue with a tower in your area?

You could also flash back to stock and see if the problem persists.

Flashed ROM to 3.80 through GooManager and lost all that precious space that CWM gave me ?????? Please Help . Also cant find USB debugging for Odin communications. Am i just not finding it ? any help would be great

USB debugging : Settings>>>Show All>>>Applications>>>>Development ( Put checkmark into USB debugging )

After you update the ROM you need to go to : Settings>>>CT Rom>>>Koumamod There you need to select "Data", then "Save Settings"..... Then hold your Powerbutton down for a second and select "Reboot", then select "Recovery"..... Once reooted into recovery, RE-FORMAT your sdext ( Not your sdcard )..... Then reboot normally !

Good luck !

Thanks Lord, some of them already exist in system/app, which of course means they would get overwriiten on flashing it, so I'm guessing there must be something different about them for whatever reason, I don't really use any of the other stuff anyway, this was most just out of curiosity on my part. I like feeding my head. ....... :eating:

Hellboy71: I've had a lot of signal problems in the past. It's not the rom or the phone, I've tried everything. Most of the times when it was going on I would call Boost and it would turn out that they were "upgrading" the towers near me, so they say. But I don't buy that myself.

Every single time it rains outside I completely lose my signal until the day after it stops raining, took a long time to figure that one out, but it's true. And 80% of the time I have to walk or drive 3 miles from my house to get a signal at all. My girlfriend has the exact same phone with no mods at all and she has the same problems whenever she comes over here. So I would say it's Boost, just my opinion.

Well, you mentioned that you are using EJ06, which is very, very old ( still works for some people )..... I am using also not the latest FF19 ( FE19 is also very old and not very good ), but I use FE16 and it works just fine..... My suggestion would be that you try FF19 or FE16 with CTMod or CM7 ROM !!!!

I'm using ff19, tried all the other ones, no difference for me. When I travel around sometimes I get all the bars, sometimes none. Depends on where I am. So that's why I think it's boost and their towers.
