[ROM] CyanogenMod 7.0.0 Stable 4/10/11

Quick question: What does it mean if I have the earlier version of CM7 for Hero, and I try to flash this one and it says "Installation Aborted?". Or better yet, WHY wont the installation finish?

Did you change your recovery?

You might want to download the rom again, from above, and try again;)

+1 on what andy said....sounds like a bad DL -
Try again!

I'm about to go from AOSP Froyo to CM7.

On another post I saw a note for those using the latest version of recovery. It has a link to aospCWMod-HC-20110326.img

What do I do with that? My version of recovery is 2.5.0.7

Also, what overclocking should I use?

So I'm impatient and just went ahead and it won't install. At the very beginning of the flashing I get the following error:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update-cm-7.0.0-Heroc-signed.zip

Any ideas for what went wrong?

EDIT: I think I had a bad dl, restoring to back up retrying
EDIT 2: We're all good now.

First off it is not required to update your recovery to flash cm7 but if you want to you can. The easiest way I know how to flash it is through terminal emulator.

1. Download the the .img file to sd card and put on the root of the sd card(not in any folders)

2. Open terminal emulator and type: (hit enter at end of each line )
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/name-of-recovery.img

*****where name of recovery is put the exact name of the file as it is on your sd card probably, aospCWMod-HC-20110326.img

Then you should be able to reboot to recovery and it will be the new recovery image you just flashed.

As for overclocking it more of a trial and error to see what your phone likes the best. Some can run awesome at 768 and some find it gives them random reboots. Play around and see what works best for you.

I wasn't updated recovery. I was wondering what that .img file was for. So the purpose of that was just to update recovery?

Either way, I'm back up and running with Cyanogen 7.
I was using Overclock Widget before. I thought I recalled something about some conflict with one overclocking program or another. So if there's no known issues I'll just go back to OC Widget.

When I tried CM7 I experienced alot of lag. It just felt very unstable. The notification bar twitching like does was a big turn off. Anyone else experience and of this?

I agree on the fact that CM7 is laggy, but I don't recall the twitching thing. I went back to AOSP 2.3.3. CM7 was significantly slower than AOSP. In fact, AOSP is BY FAR the fastest rom I've ever had on my phone.

WHEW!!!! in my desperation to flash something - I almost went Cm7 - I even Dl'd it.....
Thanks Wiskid - !!!!

I disagree on the lag. Been running ASOPGB since January and decided to try CM7 this weekend while waiting for the next ASOP drop. CM7RC4 is running outstanding for me. I honestly cannot tell the difference between this rom and the 3/26 asop release.

Give it time and you will

I went from Aosp GB 3/8 build to CM 7 stable and have truly noticed almost no difference. There is no lag to speak of for me. Maybe I am missing something, dunno. Of course, now I'll have to try the new Aosp and see if that is the difference maker. :)

No I'm pretty sure the 3/7/11 Gapps are specifically for gingerbread. You should just flash a gb rom they are silky smooth.
I plan on it I just wanna make sure all my apps are up to date before I backup & flash. I'd hate to flash to GB, need to flash back & have the same problems with my apps
