Strange... Guess I have a newer chipset than everyone else... No other reason for my aGPS not to work.</P>
<P>&nbsp;</P>
<P>It did have a Qualcomm 3G sticker on it when new...
</P>
<P>&nbsp;</P>
<P>&nbsp;</P>
<P>yeah mine has the qualcomm 3g sticker on it as well.... anyways can someone explain in detail or perhaps just a run through because ive read about it throughout the forum and i guess im just not getting it but anyways i reformated my 8 gig sd card and partitioned 500 megs to ext 2 and then upgraded it to ext 3...so the thing im wondering is how do i know if my apps are being installed to the ext 3 partition.... and also how do i install my apps to the ext 3 partition..or is it when i move a app to internal memory it automatically moves it to the ext 3 partition?.. i know i sound like a dumb ass but help would be appreciated.</P>

it is a good question.
it only works with the support that he built into the rom. Or I believe thats why it works.

The way it works is the phone is reading that ext3 as part of its internal phone memory. Our phone has 201mb of user, usable space when you download apps you can see how it fills that up. If you get too low you run into problems with texts and mms as well. However when you have the support this rom provides when you add apps you will see no or very little decrease in that 201mb if you click menu and go to manage apps it tells you how much memory your using and what is available. I dont have lots of apps so I only made 384mb ext3 partition my phone shows only 13mbs used 188mbs free.

yes this i understand i guess the issue is, is that i have all my apps on my internal phone memory and its only showing i have 118 mb free of 201... i understand what it does is enable us to have more "internal phone space" but with using the sd card.. but how do i move my Apps to the ext3 partition? like i said all my apps are on my internal phone memory and its showing i only have 118 mb free when i should have more if all my apps are on my ext 3 partition so i guess somehow my apps arent getting moved to my ext 3 partition or do i have to reinstall them in order for them to get moved into that partition? thanks for the speedy reply and the help sir! :-)

^^^^Yes I myself am scracthing my head, how do i know it actually worked, I installed all my apps and most of them went to sd but mines also says 116 out of 201

I may have found one thing that is a problem and has not been mentioned.
I use gas buddy, from the market but with this I try to open it and it pops up a screen that says "The application GasBuddy (process gbis.gbandriod) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Then it has a button for Force Close
I tried several times, I even uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times.

yes I've had this issue with a few apps myself. all my angry birds apps and fruit ninja force close like that and a few others too. i'm not sure what is causing it though so i can't give any big details as to what it could be just yet.

well i just downloaded the gas buddy that dude was having issues with and i have no force close issues, on that note the only time i had force close issues with any app is when i use app2sd pro to move the apps to my sd card when i moved the apps to the sd card then alot of my apps would force close, forcing me to move them back onto the phone..... dont know if this is your guys issue :-\

Sometimes when i get a call or should i say i MOST of the time.when the phone rings,it doesnt display the screen until you start to unlock the screen...AnYoNe ElSe???

I haven't ran the ROM long enough to notice this.

I just wiped my Optimus, twice, and am flashing the updated ROM again. I don't understand why I have the issue with aGPS and program FCs while others don't seem to.

Ok I really dont know how to explain it but I re-flashed the rom, re-installed all my apps with titanium backup and when i opened the apps2sd app i only had 4 apps on sd card, the rest are showing phone only and I still have 173mb free, maybe re-flashing the rom is the answer..

Not sure if your partition wasnt set up correctly or possibly a glitch when you flashed the rom. You do not need to do anything except have the ext3 available. Android will take care of the rest when you install the app it will go to the ext3.

I played around with apps2sd before and I know exactly what you mean if a app was on the sd card it would not read it correctly and force close. I however do not have anything installed to the sd, except via the ext3 partition. When I look at the manage apps screen it tells where it is installed and all mine say on phone.

Sometimes when i get a call or should i say i MOST of the time.when the phone rings,it doesnt display the screen until you start to unlock the screen...AnYoNe ElSe???
I have not seen that exactly, though that might be because I have not received any calls yet. I have seen that sometimes, many times actually when I press one of the keys the screen brightens but does not actually come on if you understand what I mean. I then swipe my finger on the screen and it lites up just fine. That would go back to the same issue with the screen animations, which if I remember reading correctly is because the phone has a different graphics setup then the V which is where this rom was ported from.

Hope it stays working correctly for you, that is what it should be like.

This Port is still beta

I can probably tell you that a majority of the people who can actively use adb to interface with there devices are having no issues other than the one's that need to be fixed :p

this is just a run down of the app2sd to see if you are mounted and where the space is going

#load up adb shell and su to root
#displays mounted sd-ext
mount | awk '/sd-ext/ {print $1" "$2" "$3" "$4" "$5}'
#/this/is/a/symlink --> /this/is/the/destination"
ls -ashl /data/ | awk '/sd-ext/ {print $10" "$11" "$12}'
#files responsible for space taken in /data/
du -h /data/data/ | awk '/[0-9]+.[0-9]+M/ {print $1"B "$2}'

Do not reflash it is working correctly. Read the OP. It says your internal memory will not increase but you will use alot less of it! You apps are being installed to your ext3 partition. If want to see how much space you are using do this in terminal emulator or adb:

sh-3.2$ su
sh-3.2# df -h /sd-ext
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 572.2M 308.8M 232.8M 57% /sd-ext
sh-3.2#

This is why I had second thoughts about adding a2sd to the rom because there is a lack of understanding. This is not like the app2sd apps on the market. Just install your apps to internal phone memory ans they will live on your ext3 partition. Enjoy no more low memory warnings!

I think what me and other people were being puzzled by is how do we know it worked, when I first flashed the rom after partitioning my memory was the same as before, thats where the "I dont know how to explain it" part comes in, after the re-flash boom its working..SWEET

But what you just posted is what we were looking for, a way to clarify we did it right.

so last night i installed debian to my sdcard but realized that i needed to share my ext partition between debian and my apps. so I needed to expand it!

and the process I went about restoring my info was like this through Custom recovery

##this allowed me to pull every app and dalivk-cache stored in /sd-ext/
mkdir -p android_backup
cd android_backup
adb shell
su
mkdir /sd-ext
mount -t auto /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /sd-ext
cd /sd-ext
find /sd-ext/ > sd-ext.list
exit
adb pull /sd-ext/sd-ext.list
for app in `cat sd-ext.list`; do adb pull $app; done
#one thing I noticed is there is a symlink in /sd-ext/app/. /sd-ext/app/app points to /sd-ext/app
this can cause problems so i went in and manually removed it, or else I could end up backing up the same apps several times over :D

#I then toggled usb and backed up my sdcard
#I formatted my ext partition to be just over 2GB on a 16GB card

#I then put all the info back onto the "sdcard" after formatting, and then i pushed the apps back into /sd-ext/
adb shell
su
mount -t auto /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /sd-ext
exit
for app in `cat sd-ext.list`; do adb push $app /sd-ext/; done

i did this a few hours ago, so i THINK that's pretty accurate, oh and this is in linux of course

Thanks reppard that was the answer I was looking for !!

Don't know if this will help the ext3 Convo for others I downloaded a app called "free space" and it will show the ext 3 partition with how many MB used .

Well no love for me, still no aGPS and the program is still crashing.

I don't understand how everyone is getting their location to work with GPS off...

GasBuddy also crashes on my phone, but from looking at the system logs, it appears to be for a different reason.

Dave did you wipe Google maps cache and data like reppard said in earlier posts?

Good find.

also i figured out that your internal memory will change if you move your apps over to your ext3 partition i was having issues because apparantly my apps werent getting moved but just staying on the phones internal memory.. but now i have all my apps on my ext3 partition and i have 189 mbs free phone internal.. so what you want to do is download this app "s2e" and use that app to move your apps from your internal to your ext 3 partitions i moved my apps, private apps, dalvik cache, and download cache all to my ext 3 partition with that app "s2e" but after you check the boxs and reboot you will have a bunch of force closes dont worry becuase then i rebooted again and then everything works fine with all my apps on my ext 3 partition... please tell me if this works for you guys having issues!

Yes, of course.

Perhaps you, or someone else can do this for me to try and replicate my findings. If you don't mind, please follow these steps:

1) DISABLE WiFi and satellite GPS systems, leaving only the phone's cellular wireless on.

2) Clear the browser history, cache, cookies, everything. Clear the location cache as well.

3) Reboot the phone.

4) WITHOUT TURNING ON ANY WIRELESS EXCEPT CELLULAR RADIO, please open the browser, and load Google's mobile page using only cellular data.

Within one minute, my phone will switch from saying "See nearby places" to "Location Unavailable".

Agps isn't working. GPS is. I'm still on the case I'm going to have to pull some libs from older boot image.
